The advertisements hit hard today. Tune in at 6 o'clock, you won't want to miss this special! Everywhere a person could look, it was there, and the city was clearly excited for whatever this mystery event was.

As if that wasn't enough, escorts were encouraging Tributes to be in the commons, and a small feast of finger foods was laid out along one wall, extra avoxes available for drinks.

And, as promised, at 6 pm sharp, all the TVs flickered to the ever flashy Caesar, on an equally flashy tabloid-tastick reality style "interview" of the tributes. All the TVs in the common area light up with it, as well as the Districts suites, even if the TV had been off before.

He knows, when they're all shuffled into the same room, that something ridiculous is going to go down. He makes it until the first commercial break.

"Well, that's... that. Hilarious. Terrible."

Time to find a quieter corner of the room.

Steve holds up a small plate and offers Bruce one of his mini quiches.

He runs a hand through his hair and takes one, glancing up with an appreciative smile before going back to looking anywhere else. "At least I didn't say anything," he sighs-- but even then it doesn't make a difference, given what happened with the others.

"At least they didn't show clips of us," he agrees, offering an apologetic smile with his quiches. "Think everyone else is doing alright?"

It could be worse, he knows; the focus could be on what they were doing, making them up to be some sort of guild of killers instead of a group 'secretly' planning on betraying themselves. "I bet a few are mad about misrepresentation."

He's more upset about them showing the truth on his end.

"I don't believe anybody thinks what got showed was what was said, or at least what was said in context." But Steve frowns regardless, taking a sip of brightly colored liquid. "I think it's just for the viewers," he says, though he'd say the same thing about reality TV and suppose the actors aren't really mad at each other....

"Everyone here must know, it happened to everyone," he says in agreement, though it's not exactly making him sound any happier. "They just want us as bloodthirsty and murderous as possible to keep themselves entertained."

The worst part, though, is that he can say anything, everything, and he's still more likely to deliver than anyone else in the room.

[xanthous]

"I think it'th great." He's grinning, his brows very well on the way to his hairline. He's giggling, despite the fact it was said he eats human. "You looked fantathtic."

[hasacondition]

His smile is resigned, awkward and humorless. "Thanks. This is probably the part where I mention my skin's a lot thicker than average, right?"

All things considered, he's not really in a position to comment on people's appearances, but it makes it easy to pick out familiar faces from the broadcast.

[xanthous]

He snickers, all of his fangs showing in his grin. "I'll be thure to tenderithe you if I ever get too hungry, but I think you'll be okay, thir."

He's certainly not going to tell him that the interviews were edited heavily.

"There's a lot to work with, so good luck," he mutters before drowning it in a sip of a drink, using it more for something to do than because he was thirsty. He's sure it's all out of context-- he knows what the others would say, after all, and what was shown wasn't it.

[xanthous]

He taps his claws together, waggling his fingers at Bruce. "I'm thure if I need that much food in the arena I'll manage." He giggles some more, before growing more...somber.

He can't deny that he's curious about the green.

"How do you do that, anywayth? Ith it pthychic?"

"Not... no." He brushes his hand through his hair with a sigh, not quite wanting to explain it but knowing that it was way too visible to expect not to. "Radiation-based. It's not exactly something I like doing."

Alex was about a meter away, sipping a glass of something that passed as Coke, a plate of crisps balanced on his knee.

"I dunno. The editing wasn't half bad. A little weak in spots, but I doubt any of the viewers outside of this room will really be able to tell the difference."

Which was of course the whole point of the feature.

"It was pretty close, but it's easy to guess what the real context was," he replied almost automatically, half on autopilot as he tried to shift gears into something that's not all about the stuff he didn't want other people to see.

"Rather interesting context, really," Alex said thoughtfully as he munched on a crisp. "But that's what advertising is. Putting things in the context that most benefits you. Though, did they have to go and call being a footballer "mundane"? Sure, it's not quite as thrilling as their Games, but what is?" He wondered if that's how the Gamemakers saw him at this point, mundane. He wasn't sure if that was a safe or dangerous place to be.

He couldn't help but laugh, surprising him out of his funk. He wasn't sure if the kid was just coping or if that really was what he was upset about, but it got him either way. "Well, this used to be America, right? Are you really surprised? Next time try talking about the tackling one." They'd probably like the tackling, at least.

"Yes, I have noticed Americans have a thing for bodily slamming each other to the ground, preferably with copious amounts of protective padding. I'm not sure I understand the appeal." Alex didn't play rugby as much as he did football (soccer), mostly due to the amount of tackling that went on. He abused his body enough as it was, he didn't need to add full-contact sports to the list.

He laughed again, ducking his head slightly for the mention of ground slamming. "Sounds about right. I'd say it's a change, but... this place would probably support more of that."

"Wait... Hulk's here?" Sorry Bruce, she really doesn't recognize you. "And this place is still standing?" A little amazement there, then she realizes she spoke out loud. "Oops..."

Though there's laughing at the commercials. "Wonder if Donny would be upset if I didn't get one of the figures, it's just so wrong."

He was used to those sort of comments, but that didn't mean he was expecting to hear them from people he didn't know. Maybe she was from Harlem, that'd definitely give her a reason to wonder.

He glanced down, unable to help himself, and fiddled with the drink he got just to have something to do with his hands. "Yeah, that'd be too easy, wouldn't it?" is all he said, like it was just a matter of destroying the city and bringing everyone home, like there weren't people here who didn't deserve that, no matter what their government'd done.

"Probably not that easy... But would maybe make them think twice about kidnapping people. And well okay the Tony here isn't mine, but he seems as smart, if not smarter, and Dr. Banner's pretty smart too, maybe they could figure out a way to get us home." She was keeping her voice low.

And no, Pepper's not from Harlem, closest she's seen the Hulk of her world... TV screen, and well peeking at the files the FBI has, which have neglected to have that story.

He opened his mouth to say something under the noise of the crowd, but strangely enough it's her talking about Tony that distracted him, not his own name. "Yours?" he repeated, turning his head to get a good look at her. She's too young to be a girlfriend hopefully, but...

"I'm Dr. Banner," he continued, throwing it in to clarify on what he was asking.

And now Pepper feels like a jerk. "I... Pepper." She bit her lip a moment. "Sorry about the comment earlier, that was rude of me."

And okay he's a little more science teacher looking than the top of the FBI's most wanted list...

Pepper?

"Pepper Potts?" he asked after a second, clearly not expecting it-- and why should he, when he's used to Pepper being... well, their age? It's enough that her other comment didn't sink in for another second or two. "It's fine, just..." Pepper, really?
