Dan's lab had been created shortly after his mother's death. He had built it to help him make gadgets for his team as he was back in the city to deal with her burial. In the end, it had mostly been a way to deal with being alone. Once he was back in the Districts the place had fallen to misuse. With the spur of the moment invitation he had given Tesla he found himself in it again, cleaning and getting it ready. By the time he had made arrangements for the Tribute's transportation to his home, everything was back in working order.

He was out of uniform when we went to great Nikola, but he wasn't entirely comfortable in his clothes. He wore something that was close enough to his uniform to pass him off as an off-duty Peacekeeper. He wasn't sure it would have been appropriate for him to see a Tribute while wearing one of his comfortable sweaters.

Nikola has, at present, no plans for destroying the Capitol. (Though, to be fair, most of the destruction he's caused from laboratories was unintentional.) "I didn't have a specific project in mind," he admits, turning to smile at Dan. "What are you working on at present?"

"A new radio system for my team. We, um, we have to plan for some of the changes here." He can't really get into detail about how seriously he was taking the Rebellion. Officially, it didn't even really exist.

Nikola has not yet heard of the Rebellion, but he does assume it must exist in such a place as this.

"Well, that sounds like something I am uniquely qualified to work on."

"Well, you did invent the base model," Dan says with a grin. "Have you had a chance to look at some of the new technology?"

"I have. It's...fascinating."

He's spent a lot of time snooping around the District Ten suite. Only his hovering escort has kept him from practically tearing the place apart to see inside.

"Fascinating in a good way? Or in a flashy, unnecessary way?"

"Perhaps a bit of both," Nikola says thoughtfully. "But I suppose technology will always lend itself to entertainment, at least if its going to be funded."

Dan shrugs a bit at that. "That's where the money tends to go, towards anything that can make more money."

"I suppose it's somewhat comforting to know how little things change."

"Here all of the good ideas have to be for the Games too. It's a little disheartening."

Nikola arches an eyebrow. "You disapprove?"

Dan winces a bit because it's always bad to bad mouth the Games. "Not exactly. I wish that I could have my own projects, not have them be the property of an entertainment industry."

"It is a bit like selling your children into prostitution."

Dan nods a bit at that, though he isn't sure if the harsh comparison is completely accurate. "Are you ready to make some children then?" he asks, completely unaware how that might get taken.

Nikola smirks and looks him over slowly. "I wasn't aware technology had advanced quite that far, dear boy."

"I thought you said that you checked some of it out?" Dan asked, still not quite catching on.

His smirk just deepens and he steps closer to Dan. "Is this a tribute breeding program you're referring to? I haven't been introduced to that side of things..."

Dan blinks as realization dawns on him. Then he coughs and clears his throat. "I... I didn't mean it like that," he says. He doesn't step back from Tesla and stands his ground for now.

Nikola chuckles. "Hm, too bad."

"I'm a Peacekeeper," he points out needlessly. Then he clears his throat again. "Maybe we should get back to the lab?"

"Yes, I'm aware." He smiles and turns back to Dan's equipment. "Show me what you're working on?"

Dan nods at that and moves to where the new project is. He looks a little embarrassed but still eager to show Nikola what he's putting together.

Nikola responds enthusiastically and is not at all hesitant about poking around in Dan's work.

Dan takes that as a compliment. He assumes that Nikola would only poke at something that was worth while. After a few hours he realizes how long they've been in his lab and points that out to Nikola. "Are you sure you don't want anything to drink or eat?" he asks. He knows there are some weird stories about Tesla's eating habits though, so he assumes that part will be turned down. Still, if there was something that Nikola wanted, Dan wanted to provide it.

Nikola shrugs, barely looking up from his work. "I don't eat much."

He's noticed how much of the Capitol revolves around food, and he's not entirely sure what to make of that.
