Dan's lab had been created shortly after his mother's death. He had built it to help him make gadgets for his team as he was back in the city to deal with her burial. In the end, it had mostly been a way to deal with being alone. Once he was back in the Districts the place had fallen to misuse. With the spur of the moment invitation he had given Tesla he found himself in it again, cleaning and getting it ready. By the time he had made arrangements for the Tribute's transportation to his home, everything was back in working order.

He was out of uniform when we went to great Nikola, but he wasn't entirely comfortable in his clothes. He wore something that was close enough to his uniform to pass him off as an off-duty Peacekeeper. He wasn't sure it would have been appropriate for him to see a Tribute while wearing one of his comfortable sweaters.

"I love inventing," Dan points out. "And writing. I also love aspects of my job. When I was younger, I thought the Peacekeepers were some kind of brotherhood. Like those ancient tales about King Arthur." He looks embarrassed as he admits it. Its obvious that he's realized that's not he case.

Well, that is a rather interesting confession.

"And now?"

"And now I think that King Arthur was a legend."

Nikola smirks and spreads his arms. "So was I."

"Yes, but Nikola Tesla was also a real man. You are a real man."

"So was Arthur."

Dan raised his brow a bit and sips at his wine. "Maybe. But Camelot and the knights of the round? Seems like something only a kid would think could really happen."

"There's more truth to it than you think," Nikola says lightly. "At least, there was in my world."

Dan looks interested in that. "It does? How so? What happened in your world?"

He chuckles lightly. "Most of the things people think of as myths are true."

Dan is quiet about that for a moment, because there are a few things that exist now that people think are just stories. He shrugs a bit. "They'll tell you that in school, if you have the right type of teacher. The problem is that what really happened tends not to be what people are told. Because of that, finding out the truth can be disappointing."

"I don't mean they have a strain of truth in them if you dig far enough," Nikola amends. "I mean they are true. Perhaps not the exact story you've heard but close enough so as not to leave you feeling cheated.

Daniel looks at Nikola for a moment. "You're saying that Merlin was a real person?" Then he makes a soft noise. "What am I saying? He probably was, in some other reality. I just don't think he was real in this one."

"Does that matter?"

"In the long run? I suppose not."

"I'm just as real as the Nikola Tesla in your world, after all," he points out.

Dan looked Nikola over, eyes moving just a bit so that his gaze took his body in. "Not a lot of people know about you here," he pointed out. "The education in the Districts can be a little questionable, and students here tend to care about other things. I suppose you being a Tribute will give them a reason to learn."

Nikola can't help smirking as Dan looks him over, shifting toward the man. "We can only hope," he murmurs.

"I'm sure you'll be popular, then people will want to know everything they can."

"And what makes you think that, Daniel?"

"What makes me think you'd be popular?" Dan asks, and at this point it's really just embarrassed stalling.

"Yes, that's what I asked," Nikola says, amused.

"You're a genius," Daniel points out.

"That doesn't automatically make me Miss Congeniality."

"This place isn't looking for Miss Congeniality."
