The party was styled for Momoko.

The tables were covered in lace, delicate dishes and silverware, flowers that fell from vases covered in Victorian paintings. It was the most extravagant tea party to ever be thrown, with tiny, thin china cups and a too many tiny little finger foods being passed around to count. The ballroom has been styled in extravagant Baroque, as the Capitol was fairly liberal with their adaption of historical time periods.

The costumes were just as liberally chosen, from tall, powdered wigs holding birdcages with live birds, clearly hailing in the style of Marie Antoinette to regency gowns gathered under daringly (and occasionally outright) exposed busts to tight corsets and the skeletons of skirts exposed and decorated. A quarter played live music at one end of the room, before a wide dance floor.

At the head of the room there was a long table with a throne for Momoko, as elaborate as anything else in the room. And along the long table, group close to those who they seemed to enjoy, was a place for many of the Tributes, with a small place card that said "Special guest of The Capitol." This table was fed first, received drinks first, and was clearly favored.

Any Tributes not seated at the long table with their peers were dispersed among the the smaller table spread about the room, left to rub elbows with the guests invited from the Capitol, and the reporters covering the event. Security was, if anything, tighter than the last crowning.

These people have seats a the big kids table. You guys are free to decide who sits by who (And if three people sit by one person, don't worry too much about it) but they are, when possible set by their friends:

He nodded. "That's true. Did you ever go and see it?"

"No," she admitted. "Still, it was so famous that you hear about it." After a moment, "Have you been to a circus?"

"Not since I was a child." He hadn't really thought about going since. "I suppose it's more the sort of thing you do when you're a child rather than an adult."

"That's true," she said. "Though now I feel as if I'm stuck in one."

He chuckled. "It does look a bit like one."

"That and the main attraction is us all killing each other. I feel as if that's stepping into a crazy world that has a twisted sense of what a circus does."

"Yes," he said as he thought about it. "I'd hate to see what their idea of a circus is like around here."

Callista winced at the idea. "I think I'd need a lot of more sleep to deal with something like that," she commented. She had seen a lot of horrible things in her two life times, but there was something so disturbing about this place. What made it worse was the way that people who were otherwise perfectly sane smiled about the whole thing. It was so grotesque.

Ian chuckled, although he didn't like the idea any more than she did. "They'd send us in with the lions."

"Lions?" she asked. "Why lions?"

"Instead of their lion tamer. I'm sure the crowds would love it."

"What exactly is a lion though?" She asked after a moment. "A type of animal?"

[splendid_roman]

"Yes." He nodded. "It's a big cat. Do you have cats where you're from?" It was hard to work out how to describe a lion to someone who'd never seen one.

She thought for a moment. "Yes, some types of creatures could be described as feline."

He was glad about that - at least she had something to visualise a lion from. "Then lions are bigger versions and more fierce. They certainly aren't happy about being put in small places."

"Ah, and are likely vicious carnivores?"

[splendid_roman]

He nodded. "I don't think they'd eat people, unless they were really hungry." He didn't sound too sure about that. "Of course if they put people in with them, they'd make sure they were hungry."

"Isn't that their entire entertainment industry?"

[splendid_roman]

"It has been in the past. On Earth," he added, because she obviously wasn't from there. "I suppose it's not much different here."

"I've never heard of a planet named Earth," she said. "It seems like a very centric name though. 'We are made of earth and so we call ourselves Earth.' Some worlds have names like that in different languages, especially when they evolved away from the influence of the Galactic Republic."

It was strange to meet someone who looked human, but had never heard of Earth. But then he'd never heard of the Galactic Republic either. "No one who lives there knows that life exists on other planets, so I suppose we wouldn't think to call it anything else. What's the name of the planet you're from?"

That idea, of not knowing of other systems, was completely foreign to Callista. "I was born on Chad III," she said. "Though I suppose that means little to you, right?" She smiled at him, seeming to be in good humor over the idea he didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

He smiled back. "Not a thing." He wasn't at all bothered at not having heard of her planet. "How about Skaro, have you heard of that one?"

"Skaro.... No, but there are thousands of planets in the universe. There's bound to be a couple I haven't heard of."

"Thousands of planets..." He chuckled. "When I was a boy I used to hope there were other planets."
