The party was styled for Momoko.

The tables were covered in lace, delicate dishes and silverware, flowers that fell from vases covered in Victorian paintings. It was the most extravagant tea party to ever be thrown, with tiny, thin china cups and a too many tiny little finger foods being passed around to count. The ballroom has been styled in extravagant Baroque, as the Capitol was fairly liberal with their adaption of historical time periods.

The costumes were just as liberally chosen, from tall, powdered wigs holding birdcages with live birds, clearly hailing in the style of Marie Antoinette to regency gowns gathered under daringly (and occasionally outright) exposed busts to tight corsets and the skeletons of skirts exposed and decorated. A quarter played live music at one end of the room, before a wide dance floor.

At the head of the room there was a long table with a throne for Momoko, as elaborate as anything else in the room. And along the long table, group close to those who they seemed to enjoy, was a place for many of the Tributes, with a small place card that said "Special guest of The Capitol." This table was fed first, received drinks first, and was clearly favored.

Any Tributes not seated at the long table with their peers were dispersed among the the smaller table spread about the room, left to rub elbows with the guests invited from the Capitol, and the reporters covering the event. Security was, if anything, tighter than the last crowning.

These people have seats a the big kids table. You guys are free to decide who sits by who (And if three people sit by one person, don't worry too much about it) but they are, when possible set by their friends:

"Science," he replied. "The people here seem to be interested in more superficial things, though."

"Science? That could cover a lot of things, couldn't it?"

He nodded. "It does. I teach teenagers and when they're younger they don't need it splitting out into biology, chemistry and physics as long as they have a broad knowledge of all three."

"Ah, so you teach the basics and then the child can choose which they wish to continue? That makes sense."

He smiled, pleased she understood. "That's right. They don't have to continue with any of them at all, but I try and inspire them."

"What is the technology like in your home?" Callista had learned by now that not everyone was from as advanced a society as hers in that regard.

That was hard to answer without comparison to somewhere else and he wasn't sure he'd got to grips with this place enough to compare his home to it. But he could compare it to thirty years ago. "There's been quite a bit since I was born. Vacuum cleaners, washing machines, television and so on. They're even working on sending a man to the moon." He sounded most excited about that last bit.

That just seemed to confuse her. "Why? Is there a colony on it?"

"No." He chuckled as he shook his head. "No man has ever been to the moon."

"Strange," she said thoughtfully. "You don't have any sort of space travel at all?"

He shook his head. "We're just starting out." Which was almost more exciting than getting to go to the future and see spaceships there. "I suppose it seems backwards to you."

"It does, but we've had intergalactic travel for thousands of years. There is no one alive who doesn't remember having access to space and other planets."

"I can't imagine that." Despite all he'd seen. "Being able to travel to another planet as easily as travelling to another country," he said wistfully.

"And I can't imagine not being able to," she replied with a bit of a smirk. "When I was young I thought I would be content with my homeworld, but the universe is such a big place. It's a shame to miss out on it."

He tried to imagine what that was like - he'd read enough science fiction that he thought he could probably come close. "How many planets have you been to?"

Callista had to blink at that, trying to tally them up in her head. "Dozens?"

"Really?" He was surprised by that. He'd been thinking that planets might be treated more like countries, so she might have only been to one or two. Maybe they were more like towns, but then that would make spaceship travel incredibly cheap. "Do you like travelling?"

"It enjoy the journey," she admitted. "But space is cold and unfriendly."

"Absolute zero." He couldn't resist making the joke. "Not to mention airless."

"Exactly," Callista agreed. "Hyper space cuts down on the time, but you're still spending a lot of time housed in a tiny ship."

"That doesn't sound terribly appealing." Not for long distances anyway. A ship bigger on the inside was a vast improvement on that front. "How long did journeys take?"

"Most only take a hours, but you can be in space for longer than that. There are many traders who spend most of their lives inside of their ship."

He couldn't imagine spending his whole life on a ship. He would miss being on a planet, he was sure. "I suppose it's the same for people at home who work on sailing ships. Some of those don't have much more space to sleep, but at least they have an open deck."

"That's probably a good comparison. Though you wouldn't want an open deck in space." That last part was teasing, seeing as they had already gone over the effects of being exposed to space.

He laughed. "You couldn't have all the crew and passengers being blown out into space."
