The Victor is...

The party was styled for Momoko.

The tables were covered in lace, delicate dishes and silverware, flowers that fell from vases covered in Victorian paintings. It was the most extravagant tea party to ever be thrown, with tiny, thin china cups and a too many tiny little finger foods being passed around to count. The ballroom has been styled in extravagant Baroque, as the Capitol was fairly liberal with their adaption of historical time periods.

The costumes were just as liberally chosen, from tall, powdered wigs holding birdcages with live birds, clearly hailing in the style of Marie Antoinette to regency gowns gathered under daringly (and occasionally outright) exposed busts to tight corsets and the skeletons of skirts exposed and decorated. A quarter played live music at one end of the room, before a wide dance floor.

At the head of the room there was a long table with a throne for Momoko, as elaborate as anything else in the room. And along the long table, group close to those who they seemed to enjoy, was a place for many of the Tributes, with a small place card that said "Special guest of The Capitol." This table was fed first, received drinks first, and was clearly favored.

Any Tributes not seated at the long table with their peers were dispersed among the the smaller table spread about the room, left to rub elbows with the guests invited from the Capitol, and the reporters covering the event. Security was, if anything, tighter than the last crowning.

These people have seats a the big kids table. You guys are free to decide who sits by who (And if three people sit by one person, don't worry too much about it) but they are, when possible set by their friends:

"What exactly is a lion though?" She asked after a moment. "A type of animal?"

"Yes." He nodded. "It's a big cat. Do you have cats where you're from?" It was hard to work out how to describe a lion to someone who'd never seen one.

She thought for a moment. "Yes, some types of creatures could be described as feline."

[splendid_roman]

He was glad about that - at least she had something to visualise a lion from. "Then lions are bigger versions and more fierce. They certainly aren't happy about being put in small places."

"Ah, and are likely vicious carnivores?"

[splendid_roman]

He nodded. "I don't think they'd eat people, unless they were really hungry." He didn't sound too sure about that. "Of course if they put people in with them, they'd make sure they were hungry."

"Isn't that their entire entertainment industry?"

[splendid_roman]

"It has been in the past. On Earth," he added, because she obviously wasn't from there. "I suppose it's not much different here."

"I've never heard of a planet named Earth," she said. "It seems like a very centric name though. 'We are made of earth and so we call ourselves Earth.' Some worlds have names like that in different languages, especially when they evolved away from the influence of the Galactic Republic."

It was strange to meet someone who looked human, but had never heard of Earth. But then he'd never heard of the Galactic Republic either. "No one who lives there knows that life exists on other planets, so I suppose we wouldn't think to call it anything else. What's the name of the planet you're from?"

That idea, of not knowing of other systems, was completely foreign to Callista. "I was born on Chad III," she said. "Though I suppose that means little to you, right?" She smiled at him, seeming to be in good humor over the idea he didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

He smiled back. "Not a thing." He wasn't at all bothered at not having heard of her planet. "How about Skaro, have you heard of that one?"

"Skaro.... No, but there are thousands of planets in the universe. There's bound to be a couple I haven't heard of."

"Thousands of planets..." He chuckled. "When I was a boy I used to hope there were other planets."

"When I was younger, I used to only care about the one I was on. Chad's a water moon, covered in ocean. It's beautiful."

[splendid_roman]

"It sounds interesting." He smiled, imagining it. "Did it have any land at all?"

[morethathityou]

"No. We had out floating structures though. Chad isn't the only habitable place like that."

[splendid_roman]

He nodded. "How did you grow crops when you had no land to plant in?"

[morethathityou]

"It was a ranch, we raised water animals. Then there were floating green houses and of course trade."

[splendid_roman]

"That sounds interesting." He tried to picture it, but having never seen anything like it, that was hard. "I wish I could visit and see what it was like."

"I miss it," she admitted quietly. "Leaving home though, it's an important step if you're going to embrace your destiny."

[splendid_roman]

"Not to mention for growing up." He didn't tend to believe in things like destiny.

"Exactly," she says. "And for learning new things. Home is nice, but if you stay you might end up stuck in one way of thinking."

[splendid_roman]

He nodded, agreeing with her. "That's why I moved to the city. Where did you move to?"

[morethathityou]

"I was taken in by a Master... A teacher. I spent my time on his ship learning from him."
