We Run Around the Rules

Who| Locked to Brainy and Lyle
What| Brainy promised Lyle they'd "Talk" when everything died down
Where| District 10 Common room, Lyle's Room
When| After the prison break, the pod they tripped messing the Capitol up, most of the people getting recaptured, etc.
Warnings| Verging on nsfw, though it'll FTB before it gets too bad

The day Lyle and Brainiac 5 met wasn't a particularly significant day. Brainy been puttering around his new lab at Legion HQ and all but ignored Lyle and Cosmic Boy when they tried to introduce themselves. Subsequent meetings involved him giving Lyle the cold shoulder multiple times, Lyle mocking his superhero name because it was derived from a villain's name, and Brainy reluctantly giving the team advice over their comms to keep them from, you know, dying. (He'd been very annoyed the entire time since they'd been distracting him from an experiment.)

It wasn't until the day that Lyle had come into his lab to argue (again) about tactile engineering versus pure theory - the day that he'd noticed the Valorium floating around the lab that later became the flight rings - that Brainy had actually noticed him.

[open] CATCH ALL

Who| ALL Y'ALL it's a ho down
What| A catch-all reaction log for the plot developments. Saves you from making 5 logs each tbh.
Where| All around the place
When| During and post lock down, 3am~ sunday onward
WARNINGS| Panicking, talk of murder and violence. Singing the songs of panem.

When things like THIS and THIS are going down it's probably a good time to touch base with one another. Face caressing, crying and meaningful stares abound as the Tributes and Staff drag their knuckles hopelessly in an effort to figure out what the fresh hell is going on.

Make your own prompts, feel free to make them closed to specific people.

Come and keep your comrade warm

Who| Molotov Cocktease and open! Plus a closed prompt for D6 suite
What| Um... "adjusting" to being in the Capitol
Where| D6 suite, training room, then the Central Commons bar
When| Early morning through pretty much the whole day
Warnings/Notes| Endless smoking, senseless violence to training dummies, irritable Russian woman

And then there were prompts )

Backdate; Pre-Arena.

Who| Charles & Brainiac 5
What| A mutant and an alien play a game or two.
Where| District 8; Common Room
When| Pre-arena; shortly after Charles' arrival
Warnings/Notes| None.

Charles made his way to the District 8 common room. He had only seen it in passing, so he navigated there slowly, to be sure that he both wouldn't miss it or Brainiac. Not that he believed for a moment that he would miss Brainiac based on his appearance. He had met, already, some very different looking people. At home, the only mutants who really looked different were Raven and recently, Hank. Charles wasn't known for his ability to deal with those who were different. But he wasn't entirely certain that this person was a mutant. He couldn't be sure.

He would make an attempt to figure this out as they played.

Once in the common room, he glanced around, looking for that green to see if Brainiac was already there, or if he was yet to arrive.

A Rokk and a hard place [CLOSED]

WHO | Legionnaires
WHAT | Bringing a team-mate up to speed
WHEN | Before the end of the 'Thicker Than Blood' plot
WHERE | Starting in the elevators then off to somewhere private
WARNINGS | Probable mentions of violence that's about it

Waking up to find he'd been kidnapped just so he could compete in some death-match for people's entertainment wasn't exactly par-for-the-course in the Legion but it wasn't the worst position Rokk had ever found himself in either.

He'd taken in everything he'd been told about the situation calmly, asking the odd question and trying to get a feel for the position he was in. While he was confident with his powers he could overpower the soldiers who'd collected him he held off on trying anything, needing to know just what sort of forces he'd be facing. There was also the fact that anyone who'd consider making people fight to the death would have no compunctions when it came to harming innocents and he couldn't act until he knew there were no hostages who could suffer as a result. There was no sign of the rest of the Legion so he was holding out hope that they were looking for him even now. After all, capturing him was one thing but the entire team? That was a feat no one had managed yet. But that didn't mean he was going to just sit around and wait for a rescue.

So he'd obediently followed the so-called peacekeepers to the place where they told him he'd be staying and after briefly examining the room had set out to see what he could learn about this place called Panem.

His attention was on the communicator he'd found in the room, searching through the information it provided when the elevator stopped in front of him and the doors slid open. Stepping inside and hitting the button for the ground floor he spared only half-a-glance for the lift's other occupants before going back to what he'd been reading.

For half a second. Then his gaze snapped back up to actually look at his companions as he gaped in surprise.

I'm really not sure if I'm floating or drowning here.

WHO| Tony Stark, and anyone who can see him!
WHAT| Tony is not really loving this whole kidnapping death match thing
WHEN| 11th of the May
WHERE| Several locations in the tower
WARNINGS| References to the end of Winter Soldier but it's only a spoiler if you haven't seen it or Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. But you can avoid it by not reading what Tony's doing/thinking on the roof

Care to throw a floatation device? )

He is a man of action.

Who| Jaime and YOU!
What| Jaime adjusts to his new surroundings. He is not happy.
Where| The Commons
When| This morning
Warnings/Notes| Jaime is not in a good mood!

This morning had gotten worse and worse as it had gone on. First, waking up to find out that he'd been hijacked into some messed gladiatorial competition where he was expected to fight or die (or both) had really put a damper on the beginning of summer. On top of that, Khaji was gone, and while hadn't had a chance to take a look at himself yet, he had a feeling the ache between his shoulder blades was related to the disturbing silence in the back of his mind. There had been a time when he'd wanted that but now... now it felt almost like a piece of him was missing. He flexes one hand as he sits in one of the plush chairs in the lobby-like Commons. His chin is tucked into his other hand as he stares holes through the opposite wall.

What would Ted Kord do?

He definitely wouldn't give this chumps what they wanted. Maybe he's expected to go and fight, but he's not going to give them a show. And he's definitely not going to kill anybody. Next, find out where the hell they had Khaji. He doubts that they have the technology to destroy the Scarab. And even if they did, they'd more than likely want to study Khaji instead of destroying him. Once he had Khaji, then. Then he could really get to work. He slaps one hand against his knee, nods.

"Better get to work."

Who| Sabriel and you
What| Sabriel starts exploring the tower
Where| District 10, the training area, and the commons
When| After Sabriel's arrival
Warnings/Notes| Possible discussion of zombies and death.

(Option A: Initial arrival, Floor 10, Common Area and Roof)

They had taken away her bells and sword- well, it had been Touchstone's sword, but she'd been carrying it at the time. And then they had explained why they'd brought her here, and it had taken every last ounce of self control and memories of ettiquete classes with Miss Prionte to stop her from screaming at them and trying to blast them with a Charter Spell.

Instead, she'd given them a sharp, brittle smile and explained in a tone normally reserved for addressing lesser domestic servants. They hadn't been impressed, and so Sabriel found herself in a strange building, fear and shock and absolute, seething rage all shifting around inside her head.

Not willing to sit around and sulk, Sabriel explored the premises as best she could. She watched the peacekeepers and tributes and avoxes, quickly realized that the technology here was utterly beyond anything in Ancelstierre, and silently vowed to get to the bottom of what was going on. Then, she decided it was time to start asking questions.

"Excuse me, where is this place? I'm afraid I don't completely understand why I've been brought here." Sabriel's face and voice might be carefully neutral, but her hands were clenched into fists.

(Option B: Training Center)

Sabriel had entered the training center out of curiosity, and had stayed to investigate further.

She'd spent some time practicing with a training sword, getting a grasp of the weight and feel of the weapon- not exactly what she was used to, but it was easy enough to adjust to- but wound up spending most of her time watching other tributes and spending time at stations that taught about skills that weren't directly related to combat- recognizing plants, knot-tying and the like.

Occasionally, she'd approach another tribute or mentor- mostly asking about if one skill or another would actually be useful in the arena, and what she should watch out for.

(Option C: Common Area, a few days later)

They'd given her the bandolier back, but the bells inside were not her own. Sabriel frowned, running her fingers over the handles. The materials were right, but these were powerless copies- there was no magic, Charter or Free, within them.

Carefully, she set each of the bells on the table, in order from smallest to largest. Then she began to ring them.

At first, it was simple peals, just to test the sound. Then she upped the tempo, sounding two bells at once and sometimes tossing them into the air and catching them by the handle, just to get the right sound.

It was strangely soothing, and Sabriel felt some of the tension that had built up over the past few days fade as she focused only on the bells- hitting just the right note, creating just the right melodies and harmonies, and not thinking about death, or the arenas, or anything but the sound.

Thicker Than Blood Start

For Tributes with keen eyes, they'll notice that Peacekeeper presence seems increased and yet infinitely more ineffective in the last few weeks. Peacekeepers seem harried, as do the Stylists, and most of the Escorts titter and plot without alerting the Tributes as to what, exactly, is so exciting. They simply say that this weekend they'll know.

And so it happens that on the weekend in question, the Tributes are woken by their Escorts early and brought to a restaurant for a hearty breakfast. The restaurant is nothing spectacular, although they seem to be trying to make an impression on the television cameras that float around. The sleepy, cranky meal goes by and then the Tributes are led back to their Suites for a mandatory meeting.

Sitting on couches and the floor, in chairs and on windowsills, standing off to the side - people from the Tributes' homes are waiting to greet them in each District Suite. Some are confused, some accepting, some frightened and some elated to see their beloved. Either way, it should be an eventful reunion.

The Crowning of Mindy McReady

Who| Everyone who's anyone.
What| The Crowning.
Where| A warehouse on the edge of town.
When| Starting from early evening till late into the night.
Warnings/Notes| Be sure to check the linked thread for plot purposes, even if you don't tag into it.

The party is brightly colored.

The theme, subtly, is super heroes. Boldly paints city scapes are splattered across the walls, and hallways are made to look like dingy, potentially crime ridden alleys. From the upper walkways of the warehouse, party goers can get hooked into harnesses and swing out over the dance floor. Above them, tributes and VIPS can find themselves on a clear plastic dance floor levitated above everything, looking like they're hanging in air.

Masks are passed out in plenty, and capes are easy to find, while brightly colored drinks themed around super powers are plentiful. None of them actually work, but many of the Capitol people are happy to pretend, mocking super strength or invisibility with each new beverage.

Under the dance floor a catacomb of tunnels and rooms full of obstacles is splashed with black light receptive colors. Party goers are given vests and laser guns, marked green for villains and red for heros, and set loose to hunt each other in the laser tags playground. The screens in the dance floor keep a running tally of which side is winning, displaying the players on the screens around the room, along with clips from the arenas.

About half way through the night, everyone is gathered to the main stage for a special announcement.

Consider the Following: it takes the human body about one hour to metabolize one drink

WHO| Open to any Science Bros, medical people, or people who might otherwise randomly be at the bar
WHAT| Happy Hour
WHEN| About a week after the arena is over, I guess?
WHERE| Unzip Your Genes, a Capitol bar
WARNINGS| Drunken arguments about physics and possibly whether a caveman or an astronaut would win in a fight

After their rather electric deaths (and close calls, for some) the Science Bros (also known as the Science Alliance) were firmly established as a group in the minds of the Capitol public. That was why all the members were given an invite to the Capitol bar Unzip Your Genes as guests of honor, a publicity stunt - er, gesture of appreciation - because the bar had re-themed and re-named itself in their honor.

Drinks were on the house - as were the Science Alliance T-shirts they were all given as door prizes - and there weren't too many Capitol guests so it promised to possibly actually be a good time. For those that didn't care about a good time, they could possibly drink out of spite until the bar regretted offering free drinks.

The decorations actually weren't half bad. Lots of glass, stainless steel, colorful charts, blinking lights, and wires that did nothing. There were plasma balls everywhere and huge tesla coils had electricity arcing up to the ceiling, shooting out mini electrical storms that might make some of the bros just a little bit nervous, even though it was just a visual effect. There were glow-in-the-dark wall panels and every bathroom door had a biohazard sign. A star map was also projected on the ceiling, sometimes zooming in to feature individual galaxies, planetary bodies, and nebulae in more detail.

In the middle of the bar was a stage shaped like the periodic table of the elements, where attractive dancers in science-themed costumes rocked out in Faraday cages.

All the drinks (often glowing and sometimes flaming or even sparking) were served in beakers with radioactive signs, test tubes, graduated cylinders, or flasks, and the barmaids were just going to keep them coming.

( open ) off to the races

Who| OPEN.
What| The First Annual Panem Motorcycle Races and Festival kick off.
Where| The Capitol.
When| Friday - Sunday.
Warnings/Notes| For more information, check out the original post, or see the results and winnings post.

Starting Friday, the Capitol has pushed out onto the chill streets with hopes for entertainment and the thrill of races most of them have no personal stakes in. The races are spread out over the first few days, with whispers of a surprise happening on Sunday. Everyone's theorizing what it could be. It's the nature of crowds to indulge in curiosity on a massive, gossipy level, and the Citizens of the Capitol are no exception.

Aside from the races, people stopped by the ice skating rink sponsored by one of the museums from the last Arena, with a Mindy themed focus. There are ride-alongs: Capitolites make a donation to the Gamemaker's Foundation (or something, idk) in order to get a chance to ride along on a short loop track with a racer. They can make this donation and then dictate anyone be the tag-along, from themselves, to their children, to another Tribute/Mentor. Why? Because Shippers.

Set indoors, there's Bumpercycle Jousting. Minimal injury, maximum ridiculous.

And back on the street, there's festival foods, with businesses opening doors and inviting chilled citizens in to enjoy special foods and drink and merchandise suited to the season and post-Games festivities.

Each night finishes with a round of fireworks in the sky.

District Tours: Train Ride

Prior to their departure, the Tributes have to suffer a photoshoot, a few interviewers asking them a thousand questions about how excited they are, and more than a few members of their style teams asking the Tributes to bring back mementos. "Don't worry about quality, dears, we can get that all here - we want you to bring us souvenirs for the novelty of it!"

The day of the trip, Tributes are roused bright and early, well before sunrise, and driven in Peacekeeper vans to the train station. It's all rather dour, and not like the start of a vacation at all; if one didn't know what was going on, and if the Escorts and head Stylists weren't chattering excitedly, they might think they were being hauled off to a war zone.

The trains, on the other hand, are plush, fancy things, and there is one per District. There's a single blockaded car for cargo, another for maintenance, driving and Peacekeeping staff, and then several others which are open to the Tributes. A dinner car serves three meals and has small snacks available throughout the day. Another car is an entertainment center with a selection of Capitol-approved films, and a the last one is the Tributes' temporary room. It has a bunk bed for each with sheets that was a truly intense threadcount, and a single massage chair in the back. The Stylists, Mentors and Escorts sleep in the same car, although separated by a partition.

Unfortunately, all the Tributes have to share the sleeping quarters, and it's first-come, first-served.

For the most part, the trip is so smooth that the surface of a glass full of water would not be disturbed. The trips to the closer Districts are a little under a day, but the furthest Districts - 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 12 - take nearly 48 hours.

[OOC: For Tributes accepted during the District tours, you can assume they arrived before the departure so they can participate in the District festivities. During the train ride there is still network access. There will only be this post and the party post from the mods for this event, so players are encouraged to make their own of their characters exploring their surroundings and enjoying the Districts.]
