The advertisements hit hard today. Tune in at 6 o'clock, you won't want to miss this special! Everywhere a person could look, it was there, and the city was clearly excited for whatever this mystery event was.

As if that wasn't enough, escorts were encouraging Tributes to be in the commons, and a small feast of finger foods was laid out along one wall, extra avoxes available for drinks.

And, as promised, at 6 pm sharp, all the TVs flickered to the ever flashy Caesar, on an equally flashy tabloid-tastick reality style "interview" of the tributes. All the TVs in the common area light up with it, as well as the Districts suites, even if the TV had been off before.

"A mighty and brave leaf," she grants graciously after a snort, taking a drink from her wineglass- not her drink of choice, but at least the wine was good. "Should I find myself in need of a beardless boy to protect me, I'll be looking for you."

It's not said particularly meaner than anything else, the same sarcastic prodding she uses on everyone. Though there are fewer here with beards at all, that's odd enough.

Wine wasn't his drink of choice either but, hey, alcohol is alcohol. He snorts, "beards have nothing to do with ability," besides he had a beard once and it didn't effect his talents at all.

Although now he has a different type of beard which is effecting another of his talents/hobbies, but we don't talk about that.

"Perhaps where you're from." Though she was quickly getting the sense that hers was the unusual one; there were plenty of men here who were beardless, or, even more ridiculously, sporting hair that looked to take careful maintenance each day.

Oh you don't have to worry about maintenance with Mickey, he couldn't care less about his personal appearance. Usually he's like ridiculously dirty and you'd have a hard time telling what color his clothes were originally.

"Why?" he makes a disgusted face, "They'd just get in the way if they're too long."

Seriously, why give someone something extra to hold on to?

"Because," she says, as if explaining something to a small child-- not without a good hint of humor, of course-- "a boy who can't even grow a beard yet will be mowed down in battle without a thought."

Then, of course, there was her uncle and his beard, for which 'getting in the way' was an understatement, which makes her snort. "Why do you think mine's so short?" she asks.

"Maybe some dudes just don't like having hair on their fucking face, alright?" he says defensively, "don't mean they can't hold their own."

"And you don't have a beard because you're a fucking girl."

Duh.

She laughs, because finally here was the reaction she was expecting from the start.

"Aye, some girls prefer pink cheeks when fucking," she says with a gleam in her eye, even though she's one of them, "but we've other hair too."

And she tugs a strand of her own hair out to illustrate-- which is hard enough, considering how short it is. No sense letting anyone grab a hold of her there.

No comment, he doesn't really care what girls like when fucking, he doesn't fuck them because he likes it so why should he care what they like.

He is a fan of short hair though, not too long to get in the way during the fight but not too short so he doesn't have something to hold on to when getting blown. He has important priorities.

"Congratu-fucking-lations, your hair won't kill you."

"It's the one tugging the hair that does the killing," she says easily, then grins and adds on a "You see, once you step onto a battlefield, there's other men trying to kill you. You'll understand once you're older."

"Yeah? And how many battlefields have you seen? How many people are after your life?" Huh, how many? Because his whole life has been a battle and someone always wants him dead and some are stupid enough to try. But he's still here and still fighting.

He'll go down fighting. The thing is, no one will care.

Her eyes slide over to look at him more seriously this time. There's more there than just a taunt, that's for sure. Maybe she'll have to consider whether or not certain worlds were more like hers than she thought.

"I've never made a point of counting battlefields--" because why should she? There'd be too many, unless it was limited to proper acts of war instead of the harrying they're known for. "But as for those after my life? Putting aside the ones in battles," because that was a given, that everyone would want to kill the people against them, just her personally, "my own people, given who's leading them; the people of the North, given my brother; and a couple from the bloody red army, given my cunt."

Not entire worlds, no, just certain cities. And not even entire cities, if you traveled like thirty minutes north from where he's from you'd be in a completely different place with different people and different rules. So what if it's deemed nicer, he hates it there.

"Well you're not the only person with a list of people after 'em, alright?" he mumbles, trying not to show any emotions.

She studies him for a moment longer, before deciding not to press it; better to stick with generalizations.

"Among these?" And she looks away to the rest of the room. "I wouldn't be surprised. They've managed their share of fighters, and the ones who aren't have been here long enough to have their own rivalries."

"Good," he replies, "they can kill each other over them and forget about me."

His fingers are twitching again though, he really needs a cigarette. Thinking about spending the entire time in the arena without a smoke or a drink or a gun makes him a bit uncomfortable even if he can handle himself without them.

"And you? You got your own rivalries?"

"And I thought you were itching for a fight?" she asks with a raise of her eyebrows, but doesn't push it as far as she normally would. Not now, anyway, not when she still isn't sure of all the details.

"Here? Not at all." There weren't any people she remembered enough to be set against, not after meeting the axman. "Though they might see it differently."

"If they want to kill themselves, let them. I'll still get my fight," he cracks his knuckles, "I don't got a death wish." Although it usually seems like he does.

He smirks at her, "and ain't that the way to do it."

She smiles at that, and is about to say something about it-- but she found out the hard way that they'd come back anyway if they died here. It's only fair that others do the same.

Instead, she says, as if it's what she was going to say all along, "You'll get your chance soon enough. Then maybe you'll get your interview up there, and you can talk about how much you love everyone here."

He snorts, "oh yeah, I can give some bullshit answer about how everyone here is great and they can make it sound like I think everyone here is an asshole or I can just tell everyone that they're fucking assholes."

The people here will love him, sponsors will jump at the chance to help him out.

"But you'd miss the fun the rest of the room is having." She gestures to the others with a grin. "Surely it's much better to bond before you break their heads open."

"I'll make my own fun," besides, they look like they're having just as much fun as he is but if they want to twist his words then whatever they can do what they want.

He raises an eyebrow at her, "betrayal turn you on or something?"

"That's my brother's job," she says flippantly, as if he would know him-- she's still so used to people knowing as soon as she gives her name, and it's better to keep going than acknowledge that he must be dead by now. "I don't bother."

"What? Betrayal or turnin you on?" Because really neither of them really phase him. Some of his brothers are also some of his cousins and his dad wants to kill him so, you know, what ever floats your boat.

Her smile grows big and wicked and entertained.

"Just the former, if we're going to be specific." After all, it was the other way around for the latter-- and even if he was likely dead now, she'll never let him live that down.

There's probably something she's not telling him but it's definitely something he doesn't want to know.

"Family's a bitch, even if you're loyal to 'em."

"It's being loyal to them that's the problem," she sighs, overly dramatic, "and look how much good it does you?"

It landed her with a husband and an inability to return home even if she wasn't stuck in a death fight, so.

"Not that it matters much anymore."
