Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

Timaeus shook his head. "If only. No, the little brat took it upon herself to come insult me, to my face, call me stupid and useless. I'm almost inclined to have her removed, but I don't want to cause a scene. Father would only use it as an excuse to berate me."

"Oh, good, there are still rugs for me to ruin, then." She winks, and reaches over to rub Timaeus' shoulder. "You're hardly stupid or useless, Timmy."

He smiled at her a little ruefully, glad for the hand on his shoulder. A little reassurance and physical affection went a long way with him, and he wasn't ashamed to let it show in front of Eva, at least.

"No, I-- I'm not taking what she said to heart, Eva, it was just unbelievably rude. I'll have to have words with her escort. And don't throw up on my rug, please? There's plenty of water just over there..."

She reaches and pulls him into a hug. "Dealing with rudeness is part of growing up, guagua."

Then she laughs, still with him in her embrace. "And, the night is still young. I don't plan on destroying your embellishments anytime soon."

Timaeus relaxed into her arms with a sigh, letting his eyes close. There was something deeply comforting about Eva's embrace, reminding him of the peace and warmth of those years of his childhood spent under her care. In some ways, he supposed, she was one of the few people he'd ever been certain had genuinely cared for him.

"I don't see why anyone should put up with it," he mumbled. "I'm never rude, even when I have every reason to be..."

"No, you're very polite. I did a good job drilling basic manners into you." She's still got one arm around him as she polishes off her glass of wine.

"But let me take care of this one, alright? I'm very good at cleaning up messy Tributes, and most of them know well enough to be scared of me."

"You did a very good job," he mumbled in agreement, a smile beginning to spread back onto his face. Eva's hugs were still at least twice as effective as a glass of milk and cookies, after all.

"I'll leave it in your capable hands, then. Are you going to come up on deck for the fireworks, later? I'm told they're going to be spectacular."

"I wouldn't miss it for the world. I will, however, miss it if I'm unconscious, so kindly escort me to where the non-liquid refreshments are again, Timmy?"

He laughed, slipping his arm around her in an affectionate and ultimately steadying gesture. He was a little concerned about her excessive drinking, but it didn't seem worth bringing up right now.

"This way. Did you find anything you liked before? I've been sampling just about everything, which is probably terrible for my waistline- but it's good to experiment, don't you think?"

"You have a perfectly fine waistline to destroy. Me, on the other hand. My metabolism isn't what it used to be." Her laughter is like a rope she reels herself back into the conversation on. "But the spiced chocolate mousse has been too good for me to resist."

She loops her arm around his waist and lets him walk her. Part of the drunkenness is an act she puts on to repel sponsors, but plenty of it is genuine. "So, guagua, have you been courting any ladies recently?"

He sighed, shaking his head as he picked out a few things onto a plate for them to try. "Not for a while, I'm afraid. I'm bored of them, Eva, I'm bored of how dull and flat and fake they all are in the Capitol, and you know how Father gets if I even look at a Victor too long, let alone a Tribute. It's not worth the investment."

"Timmy." She steadies herself against the table and reaches out to cup his cheek in her hand tenderly. "You're a social creature, dear. Don't let your father make you repress that. If someone catches your fancy, don't worry about investments. You have more than enough to squander on the chance."

Not that she wants him turning into one of those Sponsors, but it's not her job to protect other District's Tributes. Besides, better Timaeus than some of the more unsavorable sorts, like the Baron.

"You're terrible," he told her with genuine affection in his voice. "Encouraging me like that-- here, have some of these. This is called a samosa, and it's really rather good. The fact of the matter is, I'm just not... I don't feel it, any more."

Eva pops it into her mouth, chewing and savoring. She waits until she's swallowed her mouthful before speaking, ever polite. "Delightful."

She lowers her hand. "Come. Talk to me. You mean you don't even feel that longing for some person you know must be out there, but you haven't seen, yet?"

She saw his note to R. She knows he's still a romantic.

"Well that, of course, that never leaves, does it?" he lamented. "Of course I would like to meet someone who inspires me. But I haven't, yet. So far the most interesting of the new tributes are that adorable little zombie, the thing with all the eyes... the green one is very attractive but is playing a harder game than the ones born and bred here, and- did you see? Katniss and Peeta are here..."

"Oh, I do like the zombie. He's not even one of mine and I think he's just precious." She picks up another samosa. "I did see. Even said hello to Mr. Mellark. I don't really like having to interact with other Victors, though. Did you know that I had to have surgery this week for the damage Bickle did to my eye?"

She can't act like Katniss and Peeta are of great importance to her. That might blow her cover.

"The surgeon did a magnificent job," he told her, a surge of protective anger rising up as he thought again about Billy, and how he'd hurt Eva. "And don't worry about Bickle, security has strict instructions not to let him anywhere near you."

"That's sweet of you, dear." Eva rolls her eyes a bit, though. Part of it's to prove her eyes are fine, and part of it's just to point out how silly she finds the whole thing. "I can handle Billy, though. I wasn't the only one who had to go to a doctor."

"Yes, well, you should probably refrain from murdering another mentor," Timaeus suggested in a gentle murmur, clearly trying to hide his quiet amusement. "If at all possible."

"Come on, now." She grins. "You know he would deserve it."
