Who| Timaeus Nadir and all his guests. If you are in the Capitol, you've been invited!
What| A spectacular Viewing Party and opportunity for tributes to get sponsorship
Where| The Victoria Ascendant, on the lake
When| After the most recent death roll!
Warnings/Notes| Probable skeeviness of the Nice Guy variety.

Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

Enjoy!

Parker's not been back in the Capital long. Within a day of dying, here she is, dressed up in something Pink, frilly, and ridiculous, scouting the crowd for the rich and the gullible.

She wants to take something. It's not going to do anything for her, other than feel she's taken back the tiniest bit of control.

Eponine is experienced enough to recognise someone sizing up a crowd by now. She's watched her parents do it often enough; she knows all of the tricks, if she cared to employ them... but for now, Eponine is following advice, keeping her head down so she can have a chance to run later. Still, as she wanders back to Howard from the buffet table, with yet another plateful of cakes for the pair of them to eat, she stops, just by Parker.

"Don't, Madame." It's a hiss of a whisper, followed by a brief smile. And then Eponine stares because she has never seen so much pink on one person in her life. To her, Parker looks almost doll-like... Eponine's not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.

Parker's head turns quickly towards the hiss.

She may know almost nothing about people, but only her team, the devil incarnate Sterling, and one other type of person, who could potentially catch Parker.

"You a thief?" She whispers it, almost impossible to hear.

One other thing she has to ask, taking a second to tuck her pink hair out of her face, "You glowing?" The other woman's dress confounds her.

Eponine, in reply, shrugs. "In Paris, it was the only way to get food in your belly. Here... Well, I have been caught before, when I did not realise these people gave you things."

Her voice is a whisper too, just in case people are watching her. She grins at the comments about her dress. "Yes. I am 'District 3' but I do not know what this is really. It means Valeria makes my dresses heavy with these things though. It's this elestrisity thing... It is what District three makes."

She means electricity, of course. Eponine stares at Parker's hair. Some people here have such funnily coloured hair here naturally, and there is that monster...

"Madame, did your stylists do that to you?"

"Sometimes have to be a better liar, or a better thief to get anything." Parker nods in understanding.

"Electricity?" Parker isn't entirely sure what she means as a) she doesn't care about the Districts, and b) she has no idea that the other woman means a raid the Bastille era Paris. "I'm 9: Wheat. Most boring District."

Parker's lips purse. "Yeah. Wish it was only my hair. Rather nothing than this." She hates this dress. Just because she has the cliche porcelain look, doesn't mean they should dress her as a doll.

"Well, I was taught by the best - but here, there are cameras to see everything - that is the right word, yes? And there are the bogies - Peacekeepers they call them, who can find you no matter where you hide because of the thing in your arm. It means they can see you always."

Eponine means the tracker all Tributes are injected with.

"Sometimes I think though, that I miss it a little. I hate to thieve but... It is normal. It would make here feel normal too."

She eyes Parker again, looking at her dress now.
"You remind me of a doll I saw in a shop when I was little. She had brown hair though, but her dress was as yours is. I think it is lovely. I wish Valeria made such clothes, but no. She says, 'Eponine, stay still while we put lights in your hair.' Or, 'Eponine, we must show you off to get sponsors because you die too quickly.' I don't care though."

Looking at her arm, Parker's not sure how that gives up anything but a location, and she's never met a camera without a blind spot. There's something more important here.

"Hate it? These people have so much. Won't miss anything taken."

All the talk of dolls makes her miss her rabbit more.

Parker hates her own dress. It's far too restrictive. Looking at her own dress, and then the other woman's, "Wanna trade?"

Prim thinks a lot of people are like that, here. She's a little concerned that it might be damaging to them - they should clearly be resting! It has to be strenuous dying, right?

...She can't do anything about that, though,. She can only help those who did in fact show up - try and talk to them... Parker's one she sets her sights on, and when the girl comes to a pause she'll find Prim moving to stand besides her.

"Hello."
whosalicewhite: (not really there)

Re: Parker | OTA

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-04-29 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Dying is stressful. What is even more stressful is not knowing how to get back at the person who killed you.

It's what Parker's thinking about right now.

"Uh." What to say. "Hi."
andproper: (Default)

Ooops. Keep doing that.

[personal profile] andproper 2013-04-30 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Prim would tell her she shouldn't. Everyone dies in the Arena, after all - and comes back to life and dies again... it's not their fellow tributes they should be mad at.

...But stuff like that would be dangerous to say, even if she had the opportunity. So Prim just stares into Parker's eyes instead.

"Are you okay?"
whosalicewhite: (Wait a minute)

Re: Ooops. Keep doing that.

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-01 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
See, that would be logical. Parker and logic rarely go in the same sentence, unless she's speaking of a Glenn-Reider safe. Wait, no, not even then, as she would make it sound like she was talking about a beloved lost boyfriend.

Parker blinks. The honest answer is no but she's not personally capable of being so honest with a stranger.

"Can't find Eliot." This translates to no, in Parker-speak.

Re: Ooops. Keep doing that.

[personal profile] andproper 2013-05-02 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Does that mean no?" she asked, tilting her head faintly to the right. She clearly didn't understand Park's irrational line of thinking, but she was going to make an educated guess.

After all, she was used to people not wanting to share things.
whosalicewhite: (Eliot Shoulder Angel)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. No. Why?" Parker's not used to people understanding what she means. Sometimes, she's sure it's them, but other times, it hits her that it's her.

"Have you seen him?" Usually, she wouldn't ask, but as the girl is but a child, she's not a threat to Parker.

Here was someone different that Peeta found with his tribute watching. Obviously a tribute, and a newish one at that (more like newly died?), but she still had a spark in her that she didn't let go of. Shouldn't let go of.

It was really nice to see that. So whenever Peeta can escape the crowd around him, he might stop by her and give her a smile.

"You don't look too comfortable in that dress, but you do look very nice."
whosalicewhite: (WWPD?)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-01 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's the stupidest dress ever. Supposed to trade." Parker looks around Peeta (she rarely looks at people who do not make themselves relevant to her) to see if she can spot the silver cress of her partner in fashion crime.

"You as dumb as the other sponsor?" Insulting Timaeus hadn't been her original plan, but he was dumber than a bag of hair, so she figures it's a reasonable question.
shinyisfalse: (welp that can't be good)

[personal profile] shinyisfalse 2013-05-03 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"It is really pink. Not that pink is bad," Pink was a fine color, but not really his favorite. He preferred orange, but it wasn't his place to insult her stylist. If Katniss was here right now, she could do it.

But he doesn't mind either insult. He'd met people who did stranger things, and insulting sponsors seemed to be a time honored tradition. Hell, they seemed to like it sometimes, too.

"Pretty dumb," Peeta nodded. "I might be the dumbest one here, actually. I came here for the food, but all of these sponsors keep getting in the way. Should have thought about that before coming."
whosalicewhite: (Sideeye)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-04 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Gonna get rid of it soon." She means that literally, not as in she plans to discard it at the end of the night.

Timaeus did not like being insulted, even Parker know that, but she wonders how he doesn't know how stupid he is.

"No. Never met anyone more stupid than him," says the voice of authority on stupid people, or, perhaps not. Still, she eyes him. "You're a sponsor. You're in your own way."
shinyisfalse: (get my head in the game)

[personal profile] shinyisfalse 2013-05-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Peeta didn't really have anything to say to that. What was she going to do, walk around naked? Probably some people would find that appealing here, but it wasn't something he was used to.

Peeta shook his head. "I'm not a sponsor. I'm a Victor... meant to be a mentor now, actually, but I haven't had the chance just yet to do that."
whosalicewhite: (psychic paper?)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-05 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She would, but soon she's going to be exchanging the pink frilly mess for a sleek silver one: one currently on Eponine.

"So, you killed a bunch of people and now want to tell us how to do it?" She shakes her head. "Killing's the easy part. Anyone can die."

Not killing people is harder, but it's the route Parker's taken.

"You're going to need to ditch the dress if you're about to do what I think you are."

Jim loves watching people make plans. It's fun to take them apart, or encourage them. Right now, he is all about the encouragement. Because this might be the only real entertainment he's going to get all night.

"Little liquid courage," he waves a wine glass that's filled with something blue and frothing in front of her, "and the man over there is wide open."
whosalicewhite: (Who am I?)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-05-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can't. Already ditched one dress." No, Parker does not know how that sounds to normal people.

"Don't need liquid anything. Only cowards do."

Please note she doesn't understand how that may sound either.
captjtkirk: (13 - Loving this shit)

[personal profile] captjtkirk 2013-06-04 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Jim chokes on a laugh and slings back the liquor in two short swallows.

"So you are going after that guy then. Didn't hear you deny that."
whosalicewhite: (thinking here)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-06-11 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Parker's going to give him a side-eye. It's a serious side-eye, and while she's a brilliant thief, she's a terrible liar.

It's not exactly necessary when one is never caught.

"'Cause it's stupid." She may have been assessing him, but she assesses everyone. Some people do crosswords. She plans ways of stealing things.

Besides, she's already got a golden doorknob, and some flatware. Don't ask her where it is in the dress she's wearing.
captjtkirk: (Default)

[personal profile] captjtkirk 2013-06-11 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)

Don't bring it up because there isn't a chance in the universe he won't volunteer his efforts to find out.

"So is staying at this party but here we both are." Jim shrugs. He's pretty sure his middle name could be changed to stupid ideas, he knows the look. "And you're either plotting murder, seduction or theft. Murder is too easy. That guy probably couldn't find his dick without a microscope which leaves..."

whosalicewhite: (I B Stealin)

[personal profile] whosalicewhite 2013-06-12 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
She won't. Parker doesn't share her take with anyone outside her crew, and sometimes, not even them.

"I'm not thinking about his tiny dick!" She sounds utterly horrified.

Yet, there's a lack of denial of the other two. Killing him would be so easy.

"Can't swim to short in this dress." Sure, she'd strip, and take the dip but she's planning on keeping the solid gold doorknob, which, it should be noted, is from the men's toilets.
