Who| Timaeus Nadir and all his guests. If you are in the Capitol, you've been invited!
What| A spectacular Viewing Party and opportunity for tributes to get sponsorship
Where| The Victoria Ascendant, on the lake
When| After the most recent death roll!
Warnings/Notes| Probable skeeviness of the Nice Guy variety.

Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

Enjoy!

"It's incredible, isn't it?" Peeta said, coming over to where he was, and he took a moment to look out the window. "When I first came to the Capitol, I couldn't believe how big everything was. How shiny. Even the water..."

He looked at the other boy and smiled. "We never have any water like this back home. District Twelve is all rocks, pretty much."

neffa a reyeth, magician: can never remember that the people in the screens are real people

The flash of recognition that hit when he turned to look at Peeta was confusing. He knew the face and the voice, he was sure of it-- but he was just as sure that they had never been introduced.

It was disconcerting, especially as he wasn't sure what to do with the greeting-- embarrassing, as it was a perfectly friendly greeting, but he could not find any point of precedence for his response, and it left him squinting into Peeta's face just a few seconds too long to be perfectly polite. (Say something, will you.)

"I--" He let his smile turn apologetic. "Forgive me-- have we spoken? It's just..." He made a sort of framing gesture, I know I've seen your face before-- help me?

oh dear, oh oh dear

Lucky for him, Peeta was getting pretty used to being stared at by people. even when it went on for a few seconds longer, he didn't do to much except take a sip from the champagne glass he held. The amount of liquid didn't get to change much, and even when he took a few sips, someone always came to replace it quickly. He was determined to finish one glass.

"No, we haven't spoken before," Peeta said, his smile turning sheepish. "Sorry, I should have probably introduced myself first. I'm Peeta, it's nice to meet you." He held out his hand to shake his.

It was the name that clicked. His mind finished it automatically, exactly as he'd heard it blared so many times over screens and speakers-- 'I'm Peeta,' --Mellark! VIC-tor of the Seventy-fourth-- (oh!)

"--Ah! Of course." Neffa turned on his smile and returned the handshake (and remembered to do it in the manner of this place, even). "Neffa a Reyeth. The pleasure is mine." He let his smile turn self-deprecating, How careless of me! "Forgive me-- just, I've seen your face so often, on the screens, I was sure we must have spoken... I always forget you can't talk back."

He hadn't been expecting such... openness from a former Victor. He knew the story of the Girl on Fire, vaguely, but he'd expected a little more reservation from someone who'd ostensibly outlived twenty-two people in a death match. Peeta's friendliness made it easy to reflect friendliness back, though, for which he was grateful.

"Oh, that's okay. I think plenty of people think the same thing. After all, we're not just Victors, we're the people's people. If that makes any sense," Peeta let go of his hand after a moment, though he kept smiling. "So, Mr. Reyeth... or should I call you Neffa? I'm sorry, I've never heard anyone with a name like yours before!"

Katniss was the one who was more reserved, which was why Peeta had to make up for it. But it was how he was, anyway; friendly, open, the boy who professed his love for a girl because he just couldn't bear to keep it a secret anymore. He was just good, plain and simple.

"How are you finding it here?" Vague enough to be taken as wherever.

He let his smile widen at Mr. Reyeth. It was a funny change - back home, a Reyeth said a great deal to the kinds of customers to whom a well-established family and deep city roots meant something, but here it was his first name that made the more usable tool. It promised trust without offering commitment. "Please," he said, "just 'Neffa' is fine."

How vague to let that 'here' be? He drank, considered, and decided that he did not much feel like reliving the past few weeks at the moment. "Here? Stunning," he said, and made a vague gesture that encompassed the lit-up deck around them, the lights on the water nearby, the unabashed luxury of the boat itself. "Nothing like I'd pictured my first time sailing! But I can't bring myself to complain." He looked to Peeta for sympathy. "You would know-- do you ever get used to it?"
shinyisfalse: (what I wanted wasn't this)

"Neffa, then, and you can call me Peeta" Peeta nodded. He was glad that he went with the first name, it just made it all the more easier. And on the same level, he was glad that he went with the easier talk about the boat, rather then the fact people had been pulled here to die for others entertainment.

"Get used to sailing? This is my first time, too! We don't have any water big enough for boats back home, so... but if you mean all of the things the Capitol has to offer. Well. I don't know if I'll ever get used to it. I like the idea of everything being a brand new wonder. It's a good feeling, isn't it? But that might just be the District Twelve in me."

Peeta. Easy to remember, at least - it was a name that wouldn't have been terribly out of place in Ristopa.

"I have to say, it's a relief not to be the only one overwhelmed," Neffa said with a conspiratorial smile. "I'd rather assumed all the Districts looked like this. So long as you're still starry-eyed, though, I suppose I can get away with it."

To what extent that wide-eyed wonder was an act on Peeta, Neffa couldn't say, and rather wanted to find out. If it was an act, it was near-shatterproof, from what little he'd seen.

It was funny, some of the names the tributes had from other worlds, in comparison to what they had here in Panem. Some of them sounded similar, like they started out from the same place, while others were simply crazy, and that went for both sides. There were a lot of ridiculous names everywhere.

"There isn't any district that looks like the Capitol. That's why the Capitol is the place everyone wants to be," He gave a soft laugh at that, giving back the same, conspiratorial smile. "You're not going to find the fences that protect us from wild animals here, and everything is cleaner. District Twelve is coal mining, so there's a lot of coal dust around."

It was a little bit of an act, but not much. "I think I could live here the rest of my life, though, and still be pretty starry-eyed. You'd never guess it, but everything here is constantly changing. Mostly the fashion."
