Who| Timaeus Nadir and all his guests. If you are in the Capitol, you've been invited!
What| A spectacular Viewing Party and opportunity for tributes to get sponsorship
Where| The Victoria Ascendant, on the lake
When| After the most recent death roll!
Warnings/Notes| Probable skeeviness of the Nice Guy variety.

Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

Enjoy!

cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko embroidering intently. (Hard at work.)

"I do embroidery still, that's a hobby," Momoko pointed out. "I don't know about designing and making an entire outfit." She hesitated, then went on, "I almost had a job, embroidering. With Baby, the brand? They offered it to me and I didn't really have a chance to think about it before I woke up here. What about you, you draw, don't you?"
buildingreality: (pointing out the obvious)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-05 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Embroidering is something," she mused, fairly certain that there could be a Stylist or four who would love to work with a Victor, instead of on them. Maybe. "I do. I design mostly, but most of what I've done here has just been drawing. It's not quite the same thing."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking bewildered and scared. (Um.)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-09 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"You design clothes?" Momoko asked, as that was the first thing that came to mind. "That should come in handy here, if you can convince them of proper fashion."

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-11 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Buildings." Dreams, she didn't add. "I was an architecture student back home. I suppose I could try designing clothing, but I think I can still try to convince them of proper fashion. Just in a different way."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking confused. (Eh?)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-13 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't like their buildings?" Momoko asked, turning to look back at the city. "They don't look that bad too me," she added doubtfully, though she never really had an opinion one way or another. They weren't home, and they weren't castle, did it really matter what they looked like otherwise?
buildingreality: (pointing out the obvious)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-14 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"They're all right. Interesting enough, but I think there's something more that could be done with them." Everything was so grand, but still so plain; compared to the way they all dressed, it was as though the buildings of the Capitol were straining to keep up. She could think of a hundred different ways to splay the architecture out in gorgeous ways that would make people stop and stare. "That your first thought is that they're 'not too bad' isn't a good sign, though."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking down, pleased. (Cute!)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-18 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, it's something to do, when we're not Mentoring, I guess," Momoko said noncommittally. "Especially if you're picky about it. Were you any good at designing buildings?"
buildingreality: (working on her totem)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-19 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She let the first comment pass, given that it did sound so noncommittal; better to just let it go. "I was the best in my class," Ariadne admitted, a bit of pride slipping into her voice even as she stated it as little more than simple fact. Which was, in fact, what it was.
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko smiling. (Cheeeese)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
She couldn't help smiling a little. She liked confidence, people who simply knew what they were good at. "Tell them that, maybe they'll be more likely to listen to you. I can't imagine the schools here are any good." She thought this over, then admitted, "I can't imagine the schools here at all."
buildingreality: (learning of poor decisions)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-27 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. You would think they'd be more inclined to listen, but somehow, I get the feeling that they'll pat me on the head and give me a 'good girl' like I'm some sort of puppy," she replied a bit wryly. "I don't think the schools are very good either, though."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking to the side, confused and thoughtful. (Hmmm.)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-31 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"They do have us trained so well," Momoko agreed, wrinkling her nose. "Lots of math and science classes, probably, to keep up with the new technology they must have to keep inventing, just to keep them entertained. The thought of their literature classes is...scary."
buildingreality: (no way bro)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-05-31 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Her smile was still wry at Momoko's comment, though she couldn't help but agree that it was true. They were incredibly well-trained, the lot of them. "I can't imagine they'd learn much about the classics. Their classics, maybe, but I'm not sure they're the same thing."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking bewildered and scared. (Um.)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-05-31 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale, those types of classics, I bet, if it's ones we would know," said Momoko, thinking over the classics, or even just well-know stories, that she knew with some curiosity. There were, come to think of it, a lot about murder and parties and all the other sort of things the Capitol liked, although generally they tried to tack on a moral at the end denouncing it all.

"I've read Lord of the Flies," she mused softly, her own mind branching off into the same sort of genre thoughtfully. Momoko's train of thought was right - they did generally try to tack a moral on. The Capitol might just edit them, if that's the case; the moral would probably denounce what they stood for.
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking disbelieving. (Seriously?)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-06-04 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Me too. They'd love it here, I bet." She had, in fact, rather enjoyed it herself for the most part, but it wasn't something she'd like to admit out loud, not when it meant being compared to the Capitol Citizens.
buildingreality: (learning of poor decisions)

[personal profile] buildingreality 2013-06-07 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"They would. It's right up their alley." It hadn't been too bad, though she had a feeling that the Capitol might get the wrong things out of it. They usually did, when she was trying to point things out in as vague a manner as possible. And that was when she started to get slightly less vague.

"Maybe we should try to find them a copy, if that's possible. I doubt it is, though. Not much is familiar from back home."
cowardfacinghappiness: Momoko looking to the side, confused and thoughtful. (Hmmm.)

[personal profile] cowardfacinghappiness 2013-06-08 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
"This is supposed to be the future right? For us, I mean," Momoko said thoughtfully, assuming that Ariadne was from the same time frame as herself, if not the same place. "I wonder if they have records for events that happened before now, but after where we're from." Such as lottery numbers, or sports events that people liked to bet on.

If she was going to believe she would get back home someday, there was no reason not to make plans to make some use of this whole experience when she did.

"Probably. That's the idea that I got from it all, at least. I don't know how far in the future it's supposed to be, though." Nor did she really want to know; she couldn't say that it boded all that well. She tipped her head in mild curiosity, shrugging slightly. "They might. But I don't think that it would be all that obvious. We wouldn't be able to just walk in - I don't think they would want most people to know what things were like before all of this. Too different."
