Who| Timaeus Nadir and all his guests. If you are in the Capitol, you've been invited!
What| A spectacular Viewing Party and opportunity for tributes to get sponsorship
Where| The Victoria Ascendant, on the lake
When| After the most recent death roll!
Warnings/Notes| Probable skeeviness of the Nice Guy variety.

Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

Enjoy!

She almost points out the flaw - they'll just kill her again... and again... and again. Does that really count as being dead and not dying?

She doesn't want to cause the woman more pain, though. She's undoubtedly figured it out for herself.

"Are you one of the new tributes?" she asked, instead.

"So I am," she said easily, with less trauma than would be expected; her frustrations here were along the lines of not being home where she's needed, or any of the magic here. Something about the phrasing of the question took her interest, though, so she took a guess. "You're not?"

That would be better, she thought; she might be comfortable with fighting and killing, but she wouldn't expect it from others, and the girl especially didn't seem used to it.

She shook her head, surprised by the question - though she shouldn't be. She was finding the easiest way to determine the tributes from the citizens was in who recognized her...

"I'm Prim," she said, and - if that wasn't enough - "Katniss's sister." She wasn't comfortable saying more than that, by way of introduction. She assumed almost everyone had at least heard Katniss's name... though if she thought about it, obviously the newest tributes might not have had the chance.

There's something about the expectation of a recognizable name; she understood it, as she expected most of those of the great houses would. None of that, of course, worked so far from home.

"And I'm Asha Greyjoy, sister to the turncloak, though I know as little of your Katniss as you likely do of my Theon."

Of course, it would be just her luck if Theon's infamy would reach even here...

She shook her head - though Prim, too, recognized something in that wording. It sounded as if Theon wasn't liked, at least by this woman...

"Katniss is one of the victors," she responded, by way of answer. "She and Peeta were the last ones before they started..." She trailed off, just glancing around by way of answer. It was dangerous to express thoughts too much. She didn't really want to give the Capitol any excuses for arresting her, or hurting Katniss.

"Before they started bringing us?" she guessed, glancing out into the crowed as the girl does, trying to find what she was looking for and failing; this place was difficult to follow, for now. "Then I suppose I should know them, while I'm here."

She was simply looking at the guests. Remembering the people who had been dragged into all of this.... if her name hadn't been killed, if Katniss hadn't taken her spot, she wondered if any of this would have happened? She doesn't think so. At least not so soon.

"We're from District Twelve," she offered, not saying that Katniss was around. If this woman found her sister, than she might reveal Prim herself had come to the party instead of saying "safe" in the tribute towers.

"And I'm eleven, though I could no more tell you what that means then tell you who your sister is." Or what anything else in this world was, for that matter; she knew it was vital to find out as much as she could, but being fully immersed in it was difficult.

"They're districts," Prim offered, expecting the woman to know what that meant. ...Realizing she might not caused Prim's eyes to widen faintly, but she did offer more information.

"They produce things for the capitol. Twelve makes coal. I think Eleven's agriculture..." Sadly, Asha hadn't even been paired with the fishing district - an irony she'd most likely be faced with later, when her stylists insisted on dressing her up with farm-based costumes, while other's wore ocean-inspired outfits.

"I did grasp that from the name," she said, sarcastic smile on her face-- though if this girl was born and raised here, as she assumed, she supposed it would be self-explanatory for her.

She snorted when she heard agriculture, angling her head slightly towards the water-- you're laughing down there, aren't you? "They'll find they picked the wrong one, then. I am a Greyjoy, and We Do Not Sow."

The sarcasm isn't lost on Prim - but she isn't the sort to hold a grudge.

"I don't think you have to actually grow anything," she offered, a little uncertain about... it sounded like a motto, or a saying. Something well versed.

"You just represent them."

"I should hope not. Bringing me to fight is one thing; bringing me to farm is another." Still, there was a certain irony in it. "Why do the farmers need representing in a death fight?"

All the districts have representatives.... They used to send children here, instead.

so sorry about disappearing!

[personal profile] doesnotsew 2013-05-19 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I spotted a fair number of children already." She said it fairly flippantly, but that was interesting. "Do those in charge enjoy watching small children kill themselves so much? At least bring warriors."
andproper: (talking)

It's okay - I had to graduate college, anyway. ^^

[personal profile] andproper 2013-05-28 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think they choose who comes. Otherwise it would all be children, anyway.
doesnotsew: (now you gotta kick the guy)

woah, congrats!

[personal profile] doesnotsew 2013-05-29 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I did not choose to be here, warrior as I may be. At least they don't consider me a child." But why were the children so important in the first place? This place is sadistic enough, that's a fact. "Why children?"
andproper: (Default)

Oops. ;; (Still getting back into the swing of things)

[personal profile] andproper 2013-06-03 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"To remind the districts what happens if you rebel," she said. It was a quiet declaration - she didn't like it, either. "They don't take anyone over seventeen."
doesnotsew: (well you're gonna have to yell)

haha it's fine!

[personal profile] doesnotsew 2013-06-03 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
They punish the children to keep rebellion down, and they think it will work? How idiotic. Perhaps she'd be out of here sooner than she thought-- but, then again, it looked like they'd moved away from that. Perhaps that's how you pacify them-- bring in strangers to fight in their place?

"Then I'd like to bring forth my complaints, as I'm a woman grown and wed and certainly over seventeen."

[personal profile] andproper 2013-06-07 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
It was a reminder. A note of how much worse they could do... But it didn't matter. Everyone was just so relieved, she thought.

"I don't think they care anymore," she said, softly - looking into Asha's eyes.

"...I'm sorry you had to leave your family." Somehow, Asha hadn't struck her as the type who would get married, but...
doesnotsew: (the sky and I we've had our fights)

[personal profile] doesnotsew 2013-06-10 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She shrugged, as it was no more than she expected already; knowing the history was interesting, but it didn't change her situation, and whatever the reasons she was still stuck here.

She appreciated the sentiment, though the girl couldn't know the entirety of it-- she wouldn't be able to see most of her family anyway, and her one chance to change that had just slipped through her fingers-- but then started laughing as she realized what the girl was referring to. "I mourn my lord ax more than I do my lord husband, don't fret about that."

[personal profile] andproper 2013-06-19 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Well, that did seem to fit the woman she was now talking to, but... it was also harder to answer. Except practically, maybe.

"...If you let them know that, they might put one in an arena," she admitted after a moment. "Sometimes they try to help favorites win."
doesnotsew: (now you gotta kick the guy)

[personal profile] doesnotsew 2013-06-24 11:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Would they?" Now that was something important to know-- especially considering how long it had taken her to find a good weapon, and even then it was only a whip. "I do hope I'm a favorite."
andproper: (uncertain)

[personal profile] andproper 2013-07-10 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"If they think you'll kill a lot of people," she said, a little uncertainly. The woman seemed like she might take the advice to heart. But that was what happened in the arena - there really wasn't any way around that.
