Welcome to the Victoria Ascendant, latest in the Ascendant line of luxury yachts as built by the Nadir company. Tonight, the Victoria Ascendant is the stage set for a spectacular party, also paid for by the company and specifically designed and organised by a team of event specialists overseen by your host for this evening, Timaeus Nadir- wealthy eligible bachelor, melodramatic heir apparent to the company chair, frequent sponsor of the Games. The Victoria Ascendant is fully equipped with every obscenely luxurious item imaginable, and practically drips opulence.

When first welcomed aboard you will be assured that your every need will be seen to, your every desire catered for. Staff are on hand to answer any questions you might have or guide you to various areas of the ship, provide you with food, drink, or suggestions of how best to take advantage of the Victoria Ascendant's many amenities- they are here as hosts, but also as salespeople for those of the guests with money to burn- this party is serving more than one purpose. Tributes who responded to their invite will also receive a delicate, hand-written note in a golden envelope as they board- the content of which will be posted as a reply to their response to this post.(I'll do this once your character turns up.)

Although the Victoria Ascendant has a magnificent dining room for formal, sit-down occasions, the food for the party will be circulating the various lounge areas and decks. There is also a buffet table, for those of you who prefer to help yourselves, and a fully stocked bar. Provided are a baffling variety of foods and beverages, seemingly unconnected- but each tribute will find that if at any point during their stay in the Capitol they have requested a particular food or drink item, it is available here. Or, at least, the closest approximation the catering staff could conjure up. Seating is provided in intimate groupings around tables for the most part, though there are large, sprawling couches against the walls. Central to the dining area is a magnificent aquarium filled with brightly coloured fish. Anyone looking closely enough will recognise them- varieties of piranha- but don't worry, they've been more than adequately fed and the glass is thick.

While there are various screens displaying the Games throughout the ship, Viewing is also taking place on an enormous screen, set up in a seperate lounge area with full floor-to-ceiling windows all along one side. Here, staff wait to take bets or help organise the giving of sponsor gifts. Large, comfortable couches line the room, and the central table overflows with a spectacular arrangement of edible flowers and fruit.

Later in the evening, you will be told that the firework display is about to begin, and invited to go up onto the main deck to watch. The fireworks themselves will be launched from smaller boats across the lake, and the display is set to be truly spectacular. It will be set to some music that Tributes may find familiar- various melodies pulled from the most recent Arena. The large swimming pool on the deck is open, but it is too early in the year to be comfortable to use. Instead, it is being used as an unusual centrepiece for the evening. Floating in the illuminated water is a gigantic iceberg, sculpted into a stylised model of the current arena and populated with frozen figures. Eagle-eyed Tributes may be able to spot themselves depicted in ice- more often than not, the moment of their deaths are the pose of choice, if a little tweaked for the sake of a more dramatic scene.

"Ms Quinzell," he replied brightly, a broad smile spreading over his face. "So glad you could make it. You look fantastic, too- how lovely. Have you been offered a drink?"

"You'd be the first Timmy." She gave a twirl so he could appreciate the slinky way her dress shimmered when it moved.

"And is the Host with the most getting all he wanted and more out of this meet and greet?" She gestured around them.

"All the guests seem to be enjoying themselves, and that is exactly what I was hoping for out of the evening," he said, eyes twinkling with just the tiniest hint of mischief. "Let's get you a drink, shall we?"

He waved over one of the staff, plucking an elaborately layered cocktail off the tray for himself and indicating for her to take anything of her choice.

She plucked up a cute pink drink with something fizzing on the surface and sipped it giggling.

"Tickles my nose." She commented digging around in her handbag. "Speaking of art." Which they weren't, "Did you make this yourself?" She produced the picture of her sitting on a pile of skulls and watched him curiously.

He laughed, taking a sip of his drink before replying, obviously pleased to be given an opportunity to talk about his gifts.
"Oh, no. I commissioned paintings for the tributes- I gave the instructions, and oversaw the creation process. Do you like it?"

"It ain't bad." She gave him an encouraging half smile, "But obviously you weren't paying attention. I didn't kill anyone in there. This mountain is a sham!" She declared laughing. "Credit where credit's due and all."

"Or, a prediction," he offered genially, raising his glass to her. "I'm sure you'll be exceedingly successful in future, especially with a little timely assistance from a kindly sponsor..."

"Huh..." Harley looked like she hadn't considered that and grinned her 100 watt smile. "I like the sound of that!" She rose her glass as well, "Here's to violent and amusing futures then!"

Amused and pleased with her reaction, he clinked their glasses together gently and hit back a mouthful of his drink.
"And good times spent in good company in the interim."

"I was meaning to ask about that." She perked sipping her own drink. "How much time do I got before the next slugfest?" She hadn't thought to ask Eva but she had been wondering.

"I'm not entirely sure," he admitted with a fond smile. "I'm not really very interested in the man behind the curtain, as it were. I'm sure your mentor will be able to help- aren't you one of Eva's?"

"Oh yeah! Eva's the best! She reminds me of someone back home." That seemed to trigger something because Harley slugged back her drink.

"It's funny." She held out her glass rattling the ice till an attendant refreshed it. "I came all this way, and somehow a handful of people from my world show up right? But none of them are like...my friends from home. Just like they threw darts. I mean Bruce Wayne?! Come on, that playboy isn't a contender like Diana."

He looked thoughtful for a moment, processing the information as best he could. Like most citizens of Panem, Timaeus had no idea how the new Tributes were chosen or brought to the Capitol- but unlike most, he was curious.

"Yes, I had wondered about that. Some of the tributes seem to come in pairs or groups, but not all. It makes for interesting viewing, naturally, but it is a little strange."

"Well if they were smart they woulda pulled in my girlfriends from back home." Harley huffed "Or even Mistah J. He woulda made a killing out there! Literally. And kept em laughin' all the way to the top." She sighed getting a far away dreamy look on her face.

"Ya never know whatcha got till it's gone."

"Well, perhaps if you ask nicely they might see about doing that," he suggested. "I'm afraid I'm not close with any of the Gamemakers, it's not really my area. But I'm sure if you made a good case you'd get heard, at least."

"Well, what do you do Richie Rich?" She inquired snapping out of her temporary romantic day dream back into the present and making a reference he was positive to not know.

He blinked, utterly at a loss. "I'm sorry? I- you mean my job?"

"Duh." She gestured around them "You've gotta be some important muckity muck to someone if you've got alla this to play with."

"Ah. Well, my father owns the Nadir company, and I head up the sales and marketing department, along with other duties," he explained. "We're partners."

The blank look on her face told him she was not terribly satisfied with that explanation.

It just sounded so...dull!

"Soooo what does Nadir do?" she pushed eager to find something to stick on rather then just labeling this guy a run of the mill white collar guy with more money then sense.

He laughed, perfectly capable of interpreting that expression. "Yachts, I'm afraid. Nothing particularly exciting. This- all of this, is what I do. And all the money I make I waste on lost causes in the Games."

"Oh so THAT'S your game." She giggled brightening up instantly. "Well lost causes and underdogs do make for better stories don't they? I mean seriously who wants to have the hero win every week in thirty minutes or less? Where's the drama? Where's the triumph?! Where's the human interest piece? And where's my refill?" She held out her empty glass and it was almost instantly replaced.

"Precisely. I want story in my Games, but not the constructed, insincere kind." He smiled, broadly, clearly amused by Harley's antics. "I like it real."

"Well you don't get more real then me." Harley declared putting a hand on her hip and striking a pose. "Harley Quinn has everything these games need. Action..." She did a skilled back flip landing on her feet with precision despite wearing a dress. "Comedy." She grinned broadly hooking her fingers into the sides of her mouth and making a funny face. "Even a little romance if you play your cards right." She winked and blew him a kiss.

He laughed, applauding her display enthusiastically. "Quite magnificent," he told her. "Marvellous. Those look like excellent skills for the Arena, my dear."
