[Clementine finds out that Steve is out of the arena pretty soon after she comes down off the roof, her head feeling a lot clearer for the fresh air. The screens are doing highlights of deaths so far and she see's... well, there's no need to linger on the details.

It's easy to go up to District 9 past 6 and knock on the door. Far more appealing than going back to her own empty room. She wants to check on her friends and be amongst company rather than alone with her thoughts. It's not just Steve she knows here either, there's Dave who's also out of the arena by now.]

Harley didn't seem too impressed by Mindy's hunch but she let it slide.

"Not that I'd seen, she's really gotten the hang of her ice powers though." Harley grinned "I'm so proud of her I could pop. Her problems are mostly based around anxiety and fear of herself. But I'm sure with some time I can make sure that's never a problem for her again." She mused with a gleam in her eye.

"Shepard is making short work of that, from what I hear," Mindy said. "It's that hesitance in her own abilities that fucking sucks. She's good, is really the problem. I don't mind good people, but they have to be fucking practical too. You can't NOT be willing to take the other guy out if they have it in for you. I don't want a repeat of her past performances."

Harley pouted at the indication that Shepard was doing her job for her. Shepard and Harley had only had one previous interaction and it had been Shepard catching Harley with an arm around her throat and knocking her to the ground just in time for both of them to get eaten by Raptors.

But you'd have to be blind not to see the profound effect Shepard had on people around here. It was a sort of inspiring power that Harley had only previously known when training on Themiscyra.

"I don't think even Shepard could get her to kill people without breaking her some." Harley countered. She's grown up training herself to protect a kingdom but from a Queen's standpoint. That means having soldiers to do the dirty work for her. And from the sounds of things her kingdoms never really been at war so long as she's been aware."

As long as Elsa was getting stronger, Mindy wouldn't give a damn who trained her. They had several different tributes to worry about, so having Elsa believe in herself made their a little bit easier.

"If Elsa doesn't train her to kill, I'm not going to beat it into her. Not everyone who goes into the Arena gets far because of killing. Still, it'd be a good thing for her to learn. I'll be just as pleased if she learns how to use a weapon."

Feeling a bit better now that she had gotten Mindy's view on it Harley relaxed "Yeah well, baby steps. At least I've seen her do a little fencing so I know she's got some defensive skills with a blade." But she was hardly a match for anyone with real swordsmenship skills.

"The best part is she got such great PR the first few weeks of being here. First a truly dramatic and unforgettable death, then she won that commercial deal in the hoverbike races."

"Don't forget the fucking ice castle. That was pretty sweet too. All around, Elsa is a girl that you want to win. So long as she's showing that to the sponsors, she'll have people lining up to give her support."

She would make sure the pervier ones were kept away though. No doubt trying to fulfill fantasy's of being with a queen, Mindy left them col, opting more for the ones who could see her potential.

"I could show her what I know about swords, but I'm used to smaller blades. Getting a little bit of tutoring there myself from that woman Sonja."

"Ooo yeah, she's a cold one." Harley chuckled "Even chillier then Elsa's ice. I met her once she left the arena and she didn't seem to have too much tolerance for someone like me." Another cheeky grin.

"Some people just can't appreciate a woman of mystery." Which may have been the funniest thing she'd said all night, as if there was anything mysterious about Harley's attitude.

"Yeah, I'm not surprised by that at all," Mindy said, laughing. "Sonja is a serious one. Must be why we can deal with each other. I admire her though."

She grinned. "Gotta admire someone who looks like they could be bad ass in whatever they wore."

A smirk slithered across Harley's features.

"And just how much DO you admire her I wonder?"

Because why not accuse Mindy of a crush? It's probably one of the only things that could fluster her.

Sorry Harley.

"It's more like...I haven't had a mentor or anything like that in awhile. I'm bad by myself, I don't really need one at this point. But how often do you meet someone like Sonja, who's wearing this bikini shit, barely any armor, who can still fuck you up? I want to be that strong, or at least that sure of myself."

Maybe it was a crush, but it wasn't a delusional one.

How boring. Harley reached out to pat Mindy on the head.

"Well then keep a close eye on her. You never know how long a tribute will stick around in this place. She could be gone by the next arena."

Something about this line of conversation was putting her in a foul mood now. She was hiding it but she could feel it twisting in her stomach. She missed her own red headed spitfire.

Killing all of Harley's dreams. That's what Mindy was all about!

"Well don't be a fucking downer or anything Harley," Mindy said, making a face. "Besides, they'd be stupid to do that. She's tough as shit and she has crazy sex appeal. The whole package for these shit stains."

She shrugged. "It's sucks that you have a point...hey, you all right?"

"You started it." She shot back tapping Mindy on the nose with her finger. "Why ya gotta be so perfect all the time. I can't even get a blush out of you when we're talking about some cutie warrior woman."

That was as good an excuse as Mindy was getting on the subject.

"Right as rain." She lied cheerfully.

"The whole 'you could die at any moment' shit sort of makes it hard for me to start having moonbeams come out of my eyes, Harley. Besides, I'm fucking a young girl, and that's pretty much all I'll ever be, which sucks because pickings are slim."

She rolled her eyes. "If you're not even going to be serious..."

"You're not as young as you were. Now that you're out of the arena you're growing and aging again." Harley pointed out. "So unless you do something stupid you won't be a young girl forever."

"Serious is boring. Nobody likes a serious person."

"Harley, for all I know they could do a purge on the tributes tomorrow and get a whole new fucking crop so they could start fresh. I'd be dead, no first kiss and nothing but a measly title to show for it. Doesn't change the fact that drooling over people, especially far out of my age bracket and league, makes no sense."

She said to the girl who often flipped logic on its head.

"Yeah? Well its not like I can get crazy either. Not how I want anyway."

Harley lolled her head to the side sticking out her tongue.

"I think you've got that backwards. It's BECAUSE you may not have a future that you need to go out and have some fun like that. Lust for people way out of your league then try and smooch em anyway! Make some mistakes that you may not live long enough to regret! Get a bad haircut and try to cover it up with a stupid hat and try to cover that up by walking with enough swag to make people think it's cool." She insisted.

"That's what you would do...or maybe would, I don't know who you get in bed with ya. But you still have the advantage of being hot looking and fucking of age. You can hit on whoever you want. If I did what you said, I'd look desperate as shit and be kind of gross. Nevermind it'd be in the fucking Capitol tabloid to exploit their bullshit more. Swag I have in abundance. Age and tits I don't."

Harley waved a hand dismissively.

"Like you care what other people think. And it's not like you gotta take it to a gross level. Just find someone a year or two near you and cuddle and smooch. It worked for those girls from District 12 and people love them. They got T-shirts and everything."

"I don't care, I just don't like people talking abut me period. It's annoying. Bad enough I get all this attention being one of the youngest."

She laughed. "Right, me, the viper? Who the hell is going to be cuddling up and smooching my ass?"

"You're hardly a viper." Harley corrected her tapping her on the nose. "You're more like a badger. And I never said smooching your ass that goes back to you being worried about coming off as weird. But I bet you'd be a great cuddler if you found the right person." Here Harley planted a hand on Mindy's head and tousled her hair.

"Ya gotta do something to keep yourself entertained around here."

"Well you would know better than anybody. I think I did wind up falling asleep on you a month back." She hadn't remembered much about that day, but it had been good to have Harley around. She'd been pretty comforting for once.

"Wait, a fucking badger? Seriously? What the hell do they do?"

That earned Mindy a wicked grin from Harley.

"Badgers may look like some kinda cross breed between a dog, a cat a bear and a skunk, but they're like one of the biggest bads in the forest. Nobody messes with badgers. Not snakes or foxes or even dogs. Badgers are content to do their own thing but if you cross their lines they'll rip you to pieces." She explained.

"I guess you'd know then. You know I'm a city girl so I don't know shit about animals like that. It does sound like me here, though. If I was free to do whatever the hell I wanted, I'd be more like a wolverine."

No relation to the comic book character of course.

If Harley knew of wolverine she might comment that Mindy really is like a short, hairy, Canadian in a young girls body. But that's a joke for another universe. In the mean time she just offers her thumbs up.

"Whatever animal gets you through the woods. I prefer monkeys and dogs myself. Loyal and fun loving. They can still mess you up but it's funnier when a monkey does it."
