[Clementine finds out that Steve is out of the arena pretty soon after she comes down off the roof, her head feeling a lot clearer for the fresh air. The screens are doing highlights of deaths so far and she see's... well, there's no need to linger on the details.

It's easy to go up to District 9 past 6 and knock on the door. Far more appealing than going back to her own empty room. She wants to check on her friends and be amongst company rather than alone with her thoughts. It's not just Steve she knows here either, there's Dave who's also out of the arena by now.]

Thinking of herself, Mindy nodded her head. "Ok, so maybe we're both bitches. That still doesn't answer my question!"

"Duh." Harley shot back with a teasing smile and patting Mindy on the head. "Some questions don't need answers. And some answers exist within. I'm not your mentor I don't have to spell it out for you."

"Dude, that just sounds like what someone full of shit says," Mindy replied, looking more than a little annoyed. "But fine. Keep your secrets. I probably will figure them out anyway."

No. The time for having a mentor, apparently, was over for her.

"Just because it's not an answer you want doesn't mean it's a shitty answer." Harley admonished tapping Mindy on the nose.

"Besides if I just gave you the answer you'd deny it. Some stubborn people only learn things on their own."

"Eh," Mindy said, shaking her head. "You're not the only one who's said something like that to me. I HATE the other person, but hearing it twice is making me wonder if there's some truth in it."

After all, Harley was starting to be one of the people closer to her. That had to count for something, right?

"Well it's not like there's anything wrong with having a strong tie to your father figure." Harley chirped. "Especially given what your dad was like. The important thing is to figure out what it means for you as a growing woman."

"Of course not. He was my only parent, and he had to play mom too, and was still able to train my ass to the best that I could be. I'm not ashamed of that. I guess...I don't need people judging him for fucking making me the best I could. I'm sick of that shit. As far as they're concerned, I'm good because I had a good teacher. That's all that matters."

"See? That's part of it." Harley snapped her fingers and pointed at Mindy. "No one said anything about judging your dad, or about how good a dad he was. You pounce on it though, extra defensive. That's part of the whole...thing." She made a circle with her finger to indicate all of Mindy.

"Again, not a bad thing, just one part of it. A part that says maybe you're always thinking that people are judging him for how you turned out. Because he's not exactly around to justify your "Unconventional upbringing" so you feel like you gotta be right there to shout down anyone who might say a word against him. All perfectly natural it's just an aspect of your person that you should recognize for what it is."

"Except its already happened," Mindy said, giving Harley a pointed you-don't-know-me look. "There's a reason me and Joel don't get along, and that's the bulk of it. Come on Harley, do you think I'd have those feelings just because? People here already show me exactly how I unnerve 'em as a kid, so they don't need to know who's to blame for me being 'broken,' got it?"

As far as she was concerned, they could stay in the dark about it too. She wasn't the person who was about to tell her life story so she could get sympathy anyway. What good would it do her? People wanted a reason to bring her down to the little kid level. She didn't mind pissing them off by not letting that happen.

"But no one was bringing it up here and now." Harley shot back giving Mindy a look that clearly said I-know-you-better-then-you-know-you.

"Your defensiveness and short temper make it harder for you to mesh with normal people. And frankly normal people are over rated. The only reason to delve deeper into why you are, who you are is that through understanding it all you can become who you want to be easier.."

"What's your point?"

Mindy was starting to get a little of being analyzed at the moment. The look itself was enough to put her in a bad mood.

"I don't know who these people are, but you're right, I don't have to know who they are. As for me, I have more shit on my mind than thinking about why I don't tell people about dad."

There was a reason, of course. She just wasn't saying it.

"I already told you I can't give you all the answers. I've already gone a bit farther then I planned. But what can I say? I'm just extra giving like that." She giggled.

"Besides you already know why you don't tell people about him. At least you know one of the reasons. There are others but you're pretty focused."

"You have this way of saying stuff that I never know if you actually mean it or just blowing smoke up my ass," she said, shaking her head.

"Yeah, I do. Focus tends to drive me. That's something most people can figure out about me."

"That's why ya love me." Harley chirped and then added "Come on you didn't read all those books about me and not figure out that I can be annoying sometimes. It's part of my schtick."

She grinned in spite of herself. It's not that she liked annoying her friends but it was part of who she was.

"I forgot how grating it can be when its not in books," Mindy replied, though she didn't really mean it. She liked having Harley around, annoying analyzing and all.

"Maybe I should go drink a little more."

Harley waved with her fingertips cheerfully at that.

"Don't go developing an addiction to be cool and hang out with the grown ups. Aging faster isn't gonna make things any more fun or less frustrating for ya!" She warned. Then because she knew Mindy would never let her get away with such a remark she vanished into the crowd grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
