Awake and alive
Who: Eponine and Eva: Eponine and open
What: Eponine wakes up, Eva calms her down and Eponine tries to distract herself
Where: Eponine's bedroom and the common room
When: the beginning of week 4 of the arena.
Warnings: Eponine crying a lot. Probably talk of her endeavours in the arena and before that as well.
Closed to Eva - Eponine's bedroom
Eponine wakes up with a moan already on her lips. She closes her eyes tight again, almost as soon as she opens them. She does not want to be awake. She had hoped beyond hope that they'd just leave her this time, that they were finished with her and would forget about her and leave her dead. But there's no such look and Eponine has to wake up and face the music over what she's done.
She's made such a mess and she doesn't quite know how, and she certainly has no idea how to fix it. She definitely doesn't want to even begin figuring out where to begin with it all now, so she turns over, pulling her quilt right up about her. And then stops, shocked, when she sees Eva.
Open - Later in the Common Room
She's curled up in the corner of the arm chair, an open bag of 'body part fun gums' open next to her. It had been the Capitol's little joke, stuffing them into her gift bag for when she had woken up, and at first, Eponine had been upset. But then she had decided that she wasn't going to let the Capitol see how much they affected her, and so she sits, steadily munching on them.
In front of her, the television screen shows the Games: she watches as Wyatt comforts Howard. But she's not really paying much attention: on her knee is an open alphabet book, another little gift from the Capitol, full of cartoons of herself. She's flicking through it absently, systematically chewing on the sweets as she does so. She needs to get a plan together, to figure out how to survive, and how to live with herself now.

"I'm ready." She didn't care what she looked like in the slightest.

Outside was still cold and miserable and Ian wished again he was wearing something more substantial. "You been to the Cave?"
no subject
"No... Do you like it there? Do they serve brandy?"

She was talking about the incident with Marius in the Districts, though Ian might be unaware of it. She trudged by Ian's side, her hands balled into fists in her pocket.
"I think always we should have a disguise to go to these places." She pulled the hood of her hoodie over her head. "Would you recognise me?" A skinny girl with knobbly knees and bad teeth - there can't be too many such women in the Capitol.

He grinned at her suggestion and then paused, spotting a shop. "Wait here."
He darted over the street and a few moments later came out, with a mask, it was similar to the ones in the arena, though with enough differences that he hoped she wouldn't get upset.
"Here, they are the latest craze, everyone's wearing one, no one will know it's you."

She kept a wary eye on the other people in the street: someone made as if they recognised her, but Eponine bared her teeth and raised her fists and growled until they went away. And then she laughed.
It only increased as Ian reappeared, holding the mask. She took it eagerly.
"You got this for me? Oh , you're a true friend!"
She hugged him quickly, as tight as she could, before pulling the mask on.
"Do you see me?"

And hopefully it would give her some more confidence, if she didn't feel like people were judging her all the time.

"You must lead the way for I do not know it so well."
Happily, she pushed one arm through his so they were linked. " And you must show me how it is that you are so happy always. Always not in the arena, you are partying and drinking and smiling. I should like that too, for I still find it difficult to smile."

He paused at her question, because he was not sure if it was a good thing to share with her. Someone else he might not hesitate, but introducing someone like Eponine to a drug, even if it didn't seem to be doing him much damage as far as he could tell, was probably very irresponsible.
"I'm a Gallagher." He told her with a smile, "Partying is what we do best, especially when everything else in life is shit."

"Is it such a bad thing? He seems happy when I let him have me."

"It's not a bad thing." He told her and then pointed at the club, which really was a cave. "Here."

She followed him in, and began to smile when she saw the bar.
"What shall you drink? I will secure our first ones. Something strong, I think you need!"

She pushed her way to the front, quite confident that nobody would recognise her beneath the hoodie and the mask. And she deepened her voice, trying to avoid her give away accent when she ordered.
"I need to learn to sound like you as well, you know?" She laughed, as she handed over a tumbler to Ian.

He was shouting, because it was so loud and he downed his brandy, wincing at the taste. "Want to dance?"
