"These girl probably bleed garlic. They were born with garlic cloves in their mouths. This is like a sweet, sweet aphrodisiac to them."

He popped another one in, though.

"Damn good aphrodisiac, though, you gotta admit."

Ian got another big grin. Eddie was clearly in good spirits, glad to be home, if even for a small time.

Ian worried for a moment that it might be, then he remembered that the girls hadn't wanted much more than his company and a chat, and he had another bite. "It is good," he agreed, when he'd swallowed his mouthful. "I suppose this is the sort of thing you grew up eating."

"Well, not really. We rarely got this kinda spread." He looked over at the table, knowing that for the city kids, they wouldn't see that much food in a year.

"But there was a lot of garlic."

"I suppose it stops tasting so strong once you're used to it being in everything." He considered his pie. The garlickyness of it was fine, but he wouldn't want it all the time.

"It's better than tasting like nothing, which is the other option."

Or like mold and rot. But really, right now was not the time. He looked over at Ian, studying the man's face.

"How are you doing?" His tone implied that is was asking more than how he was enjoying the party.

"Fine," he said, vaguely. He wouldn't put it past the capitol to still be listening in, even here, so he didn't dare say too much. "I'm ready for the next arena. I think I'll be noticed this time." He carefully didn't say who he expected to be noticed by or what for.

Eddie nodded, looking vaguely over the party. He didn't blame Ian for being candid. Not just because of the possibility for being over heard, but because...it really wasn't a pleasant subject.

It was his job to talk about it, and he didn't really ever want to.

"That's good. We'll do what we can for support."

"Thank you." Ian smiled. "Support is always a help in the arena," he said vaguely. "And out of it as well, of course."

Eddie saw their escort trying to catch his attention, and he rolled his eyes. Dealing with the fussy politics that escorts brought wasn't really something he wanted to do today. Or, ever.

"Hey, duty calls, but I'm here, anytime you need something." He laid a hand on Ian's arm, looking straight into his face, hazel eyes intense. "I mean that."
