Peeta was working on a mug of warm cider; he'd been stuffed with baked goods ever since he arrives, so staying away from the table with the food was probably good for him.

"Thank you." Peeta laughed, raising his mug in her direction. "I'm glad to be home. How do you like the cake?" Give him the truth, now. He did bake it.

She smiled warmly, unable to be a mature responsible young woman on the subject of cake.

"It melts in my mouth. It's perfect! Not as sweet as the stuff in the Capitol but better somehow."

It wasn't overwhelming, it played on all her taste buds.

"You've just made my night!" Peeta grinned. He wasn't one who went around for compliments, but he did want to make sure it was good. He couldn't make a cake for everyone, his first one in months back home, and not have it taste good.

Or taste great. "I was up pretty early making it. I wanted it to be perfect, and I haven't been able to cook back in the Capitol that much. Maybe I should make them let me use their kitchens, I don't want to lose my touch."

"Yeah. Yeah you should." Sandy urged "And then you should let me and Pruna taste test them for you." She grinned mischeviously.

"Actually I wanna see what you can do with cookies. Because Pruna and I had fun making Christmas Cookies."

Peeta laughed, nodding his head. "That I can do. I don't know if there's anyone better suited to taste testing then you guys." They seemed to eat everything, and as much as they wanted. Who better to test goodies then two kids?

"I'm not bad with cookies. Not that I'm bragging or anything, I just think I'm pretty good at making them." He grinned. "And decorating. That part's my favorite, the decorating. Cookies with frosted flowers, cakes that look like a forest... I like doing that."

"Whoa wait what? A cake that looks like a forest? Not just like...cartoony or whatever but an actual forest?"

That sounded like art.

And art was cool.

"No,definitely forests. I'm not a cartoon kind of guy." Peeta laughed. "It's more... painting. I love to paint, I love to draw. It doesn't matter what I have to be able to use."

He thought of all the paintings he had back at the Capitol. "I'd love it if you'd see my paintings back at the Capitol. I could use someone who gets art, not just... know what I mean?" He grinned at her.

"But you give me something, a person, or a thing, or a place? And I know I can frost it."

"Oh yeah?" An idea started to form in Sandy's head, one that would be fun for most parties involved.

"So...if I were to say, want you to make a birthday cake for Pruna, what sort of ideas come to mind?" She was curious to see how Peeta would try to appease the little assassin.

"A birthday cake for Pruna... hm..." Peeta had to think on it for a moment. What would he make for a cake for her? What did he know about Pruna, at this point? She was small, and fast, and liked food as much as he did. She was with Sandy (not even touching that one, how old are they?). She was an assassin. And her favorite color was... red?

"Let's see. I think I'd want to make a cake that was in the shape of a knife, and decorated like one." He raised a hand. "I don't mean like a kitchen knife, something gray and a slab of cake. No, very decorated, curvy, dagger. Maybe with gold filigree interwoven, but the kind you can eat. And it'd be light, the cake. Not a dense one, but light and creamy. I think that'd be a great cake for her."

That was actually way cooler then the ideas Sandy had been kicking around. She grinned brightly.

"I think she'd love that! We'd probably have to make a couple though...she can eat alot of cake and if we invite her friends then they'll need cake too."

Besides painting, baking is what he does best. More specifically, of course, the decorating. He doesn't see it as just putting frosting on a cake or a cookie. It's art as much as a painting or a drawing is. Everyone deserves something special if they're going to get a cake for their birthday.

"Hm..." Peeta hummed for a moment. "What about we make the dagger the main cake, and then tons of little cakes that are also decorated in some way, maybe in different shapes? You can help." He grinned.

"I think we could turn out a ton of cakes if we do it in the kitchens at the tower. I'm sure they'll have everything you'd ever need."

"That's perfect!" She's getting all fired up now. "Effie can help us find a place to have the party. Nothing too fancy because you know how Pruna is about fancy." She smirked.

"She's gonna be so happy she won't know what to do." And given Pruna's usual ideas of what made her happy, that was pretty likely.

Peeta is getting just as fired up about this! "Effie will be a big help with finding the place. We could always do it on the roof of the tribute tower, if you'd like. You'll have to let me know when it's her birthday, too."

He grins, visibly beaming in excitement. "How about planning it for after this coming arena? I need to go check out the kitchens and everything. It'll probably take a week or two, to start experimenting."

A week or two, maybe ones right in the middle of the arena. Epic baking log has a time line now.

"That would be perfect!" She grinned brightly. It was rare to see Sandy fired up about something, but planning this was making her feel excited. It was the first time in a long time she actually felt like a kid should feel.

She could only imagine how it would all make Pruna feel when the day came.

"If I can help with anything tell me." She insisted. "I don't know anything about baking...but I wanna make sure that this is perfect for her. She's done so much for me."

They've both done so much for each other, and Peeta knows it. They've done more for each other then he's done for them, though he's trying. He's trying for them.

"I can always use another pair of hands to help out." Peeta smiled. "And a taste tester. The baker shouldn't ever just rely on themselves." Even if it was just help in pouring batter into the pans, it was still help. Never say no to help.

Sandy's eyes were lit up with an excitement Peeta may not have ever seen in them before. Between painting, taste testing and making Pruna happy this was the most exciting thing she'd looked forward to in awhile.

"I'm in! I am so in!"

That made him feel good. Really good, because she should be excited. Should be happy. She's just a kid, she should get to be normal, do normal kid things.

You know that, as a mentor, that the people you were going to be mentoring were kids. But they weren't brought back, time and time again. That aged you. It really did.

"Good! Okay, then when we get back, we'll start testing recipes and see which cake tastes the best."
