District Tours: Train Ride

Prior to their departure, the Tributes have to suffer a photoshoot, a few interviewers asking them a thousand questions about how excited they are, and more than a few members of their style teams asking the Tributes to bring back mementos. "Don't worry about quality, dears, we can get that all here - we want you to bring us souvenirs for the novelty of it!"

The day of the trip, Tributes are roused bright and early, well before sunrise, and driven in Peacekeeper vans to the train station. It's all rather dour, and not like the start of a vacation at all; if one didn't know what was going on, and if the Escorts and head Stylists weren't chattering excitedly, they might think they were being hauled off to a war zone.

The trains, on the other hand, are plush, fancy things, and there is one per District. There's a single blockaded car for cargo, another for maintenance, driving and Peacekeeping staff, and then several others which are open to the Tributes. A dinner car serves three meals and has small snacks available throughout the day. Another car is an entertainment center with a selection of Capitol-approved films, and a the last one is the Tributes' temporary room. It has a bunk bed for each with sheets that was a truly intense threadcount, and a single massage chair in the back. The Stylists, Mentors and Escorts sleep in the same car, although separated by a partition.

Unfortunately, all the Tributes have to share the sleeping quarters, and it's first-come, first-served.

For the most part, the trip is so smooth that the surface of a glass full of water would not be disturbed. The trips to the closer Districts are a little under a day, but the furthest Districts - 3, 4, 7, 8, 11 and 12 - take nearly 48 hours.

[OOC: For Tributes accepted during the District tours, you can assume they arrived before the departure so they can participate in the District festivities. During the train ride there is still network access. There will only be this post and the party post from the mods for this event, so players are encouraged to make their own of their characters exploring their surroundings and enjoying the Districts.]

Mutually beneficial. Her eyes narrowed slightly as she considered how his help might benefit him.

"You do know I'm not killing anyone, right?"

He hadn't called her clever merely to compliment her, it was an honest truth. She was a smart woman who could be of use to him, so gaining her trust - or, at the very least a willingness to listen to him - was paramount.

(Being such a bright girl he expected she'd never really trust him, but he'd take what he could get.)

"You're hardly the first person to say that, Ms. Watson, and yet there are so few victors who can claim it." Ariadne, Enjolras... both had claimed the same, yet still had come away bloody. "That said, however, I didn't give stipulations. Should you be in need, ask."

She was suspicious, of course. She knew very well that any help she received from him would come with strings, however invisible. She wouldn't ask for it unless absolutely necessary.

"Thank you." She moved her hands to rest on the arms of the chair. "You didn't answer my question. Why the interest in the Tributes?"

Wesker was silent for a moment, tongue licking thoughtfully over his teeth as he weighed his options.

Finally, he decided to throw her a bone. To the test the waters with a gentle dip of his fingers.

"They've taken a great deal from us, but not everything," he murmured, voice dropping to a soft, silken purr, barely audible over the click-clack of the wheels over the steel lines. "There's still power to be found, for those that know where to look."

She nodded slowly at that. It was probably as detailed as he'd get. As detailed as he should get, considering the ever-present eyes and ears.

"So...you're taking what power you can. Influence over the Tributes. Interesting."

And, she was certain, far from the extent of his ambitions. But ambitions were dangerous to express, and as much as she continued to distrust (if not fully dislike) the man, she could see no benefit in bringing the Capitol down on him.

"Mutually beneficial," he told her again, voice returning its normal level. He offered a small, simple nod of his blond head. "We all want the same thing."

Most of them, at any rate, but that was another conversation for another time and place.

"Most of us," she said, on the same page. "And when we get what we want, you'll be in a position of power?"

If she was right...it made sense. She'll reserve judgment on whether or not she'd want him in that position. There are a lot of things people would do in the Arena that they might not necessarily do outside it.

It didn't mean he wouldn't, of course. She just didn't have enough information.

Ideally, if all went to plan; but for the purpose of this conversation...

"I will be free."

An equally important feature to his plans.
