(no subject)

Who| Everyone
What| A chance for the teams to meet, mingle, and, lets be honest, for goodbyes to be said.
Where| The common area.
When| Evening before the attack, about a day after Creuntus' network announcement.
Warnings/Notes| Time is going to be a little more wonky then normal, if you haven't noticed. They will be going out to attack "tomorrow" but that thread will not, likely, be posted tomorrow, to give people time to play in this one, etc.

There is food and drink, plenty of it, but no decoration, and it is clear this "party" is no sort of celebration. There is the small spattering of Peacekeepers still in the Capitol, those not on duty at the edge of the boundary.

A long table at the front has a set up for each team. Everyone has a folder with who is in their team, who is watching their team, a list of the various weapons they will have. On the list is a flame thrower, a handful of small explosives, and an automatic weapon for each team member. There are no weapons laid out for the Tributes to handle, however - those were waiting for them elsewhere, for when the mission truly started. Nor does the folder mention that the weapons all switch off outside of the combat area, but it's also not a secret, or a surprise.

Each folder also includes the rather useless stats and images they have of the creatures-the photos are blurry, the stats mainly stack up to "they are very deadly" and a collection of the various bits of information put forth by other tributes who seem to know more then the Capitol. Last, a detailed map of both the neighborhood, and the tunnels for them to study.

Another table has folders for the intel, with much of the same information. Last, a third table is set up for those that are staying at home. Those folders contain some basic first aid information, and a list with what sort of basic medical supplies and food stuff is in the training center.

Each table set up has an Avox or two to hand out the folders. Creuntus is no where to be seen, and you would be lucky to catch any of her team. She knows where she doesn't want to be. The furniture has been dragged to facilitate the conversation of small to medium sized groups. Say, about the size of a team and their Intel.

The Doctor knew that a victor sat in both of his groups as well as a Tribute who had been here for some time - and this girl was neither of those. "Homura Akemi," Sigma confirms. His first impression of her was how young she still was and Sigma felt relieved that she had chosen to act as backup and not in combat. This relief slowly turned to intrigue as he observed her nonplussed attitude. She seemed to exude a wisdom beyond her years.

Though her head is not raised, Sigma extends his hand to her in greeting. It is a formality he would normally not extend to someone so young, but in this instance it feels appropriate. "I look forward to working with you."

She did look up, soon enough, when she had gone to get her coffee again. She noticed the hand, and for a very brief moment, contemplated what to do. She could have easily dismissed shaking the older gentleman's hand; it had been easy enough for her to dismiss similar offers back home. Hostility was hardly unknown to her.

However, on the other hand, she knew little about these people, aside from what she saw in her viewings of the Arenas. If she was going to have allies of some sort in these games, dismissing them out of hand without knowing fully who it was she was rejecting would not be to her best interest in the long-term, and Homura knew it.

"I can hardly call this situation..." After a moment, she took the hand to shake it. "...something to anticipate with any joy. Still, perhaps there is a chance to mitigate casualties, as is expected of us. Your knowledge alone of these creatures is an advantage."

Her monotone speech took Sigma aback. Of all the Tributes he had met so far, she was the one who spoke the most like him. "Of course," Sigma agreed, shaking her hand firmly, "I did not mean to say that I wished to fight tomorrow, only that it would be a privilege to work as a group under such circumstances."

Sigma took a seat next to her and looked ahead as he spoke, understanding she was an introverted type that did not like to be crowded. "I see you are well informed for a newcomer. Preparedness will be one of our most valuable assets tomorrow, perhaps more mentally than anything." He hoped their team members were already discussing a plan that played to their strengths.

"I always want to make sure I know what I am going to be up against." Homura flipped her hair as she spoke, going back to the files. "In this case, none of us are fighting each other at least. Though I am sure once this has been taken care of, this place will see fit to put us back into that situation."

Quietly, she looked at one of the pictures.

"Have you happened to see any of those people who might be on our teams? Its probably best to see if who among us might have skills not mentioned or shown before."

"Yes, that is likely to be the case," Sigma sighed.

He folded his hands upon his lap and looked about the room. There were still some he had not seen today. "I have met a couple of them. On our team in particular there is a someone I believe is a Sheriff," as he was not on good terms with Wyatt, it was his best guess from what he had heard about his districtmate. "There is also a boy I would say is a bit older than you." For some reason this young woman seemed more competent. Perhaps it was her maturity.

While he had the chance, Sigma spoke again. "Regarding skills, there is something I would like to tell you if you will listen."

[personal profile] iflipmyhair 2013-10-01 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I see. The boy is most assuredly Ian Gallagher. I spoke to him."

After ruminating on the other words - a sheriff, one of them was, but was he any good? - Homura went to take another sip of coffee.

"Is it a skill that you possess? If so, how might it aid the team we share?"
futilecycle: (Isn't that the way?)

"It is," Sigma agreed to both statements at once. Sigma almost wishes he had brought some coffee with him as well, for it would make a welcome distraction as he explained his predicament.

The hands folded on his lap tighten, and Sigma closes his eyes wearily. Though he is only in his late sixties, there is a heavy weight to his words and his posture now that makes him seem hundreds of years older. "Tomorrow there may be instances when I can see things that are occurring on the battlefield that I could not possibly know, such as Xenomorphs that have not yet appeared on our radar, and my words will go against what would seem to be the best strategy. If that is the case, I need you to put your trust in me. I understand I am a complete stranger and you have no reason to believe me, but it is of the utmost importance that our team listens to my advice."

He opens his eyes, staring ahead at nothing. "In my world, I was cursed with the ability to rule time. As a consequence, I can see the future," he admits tiredly.

That cup of coffee stopped abruptly before it came to her lips. The cup didn't move, even an iota, as Sigma spoke. She seemed like a stone statue, if Sigma noticed while he spoke. A complete stranger, yes. But she could hear the weariness in his voice. The worry that she would dismiss him as an paranoid, insane, pitiable fool.

She knew what it was like to be seen as one of those.

"I believe you."

She spoke quietly, firmly, her voice set, as she slowly put her coffee down. No stipulations, no incredulity. She simply accepted it, in a heartbeat. She just knew.

"But, I suppose we shall just have to find a way to convince the rest of the team that your ability exists and should be utilized. That may not be easy. Especially if your visions seem to fly in the face of obvious logic."

Sigma felt a cold chill run down his spine as Miss Akemi spoke. Hers was not the voice of a person who would blindly believe an old fool's impossible story, but of someone who perhaps understood. There had been no others in his world who did other than Phi, and she slept in ice for the majority of his life, but he remembered the dark hopelessness that had been in her voice as they faced their infinite deaths. It was similar to what he heard now.

"Thank you," and he had not realized he had spoke.

"..That is the difficult part," Sigma continued stonily. "It is true I can change fate, however... my foresight only works if someone in the future has died or been mortally wounded. Setting up someone's death as a means of proving a point, even if it only existed in a timeline separate to ours, would be... unpleasant," he finished. "And so I will need your help assuring them."

Similar. But not entirely. She still had her hope, her goal, her wish. She refused to give it up. She couldn't.

"Of course." Homura looked at him, studying him. "I wonder. If they can give such a power back to you here, right now...have they given them back in the past? Has there been a time you've used them before in this world?"

An example, one that could be backed up in some way. Unlike anything she could do.

Sigma paused. He hadn't thought about that. "As a matter of fact, I did save a boy with that very ability in the Arena, three rounds ago. His name was Alex Rider. The footage from that Arena should still be accessible..."

[personal profile] iflipmyhair 2013-10-07 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"If it can't be shown at present, perhaps it would be best to reference it anyhow." Homura picked her cup up once again, drawing a sip from it. "To at least point to something which can prove it to the team, once a chance comes up to see it."
