gamemakers: (capitol exclusive)

The shocking and thrilling adventures!

Who| Everyone
What| The Capitols oh so exclusive interviews~!
Where| Primarily the common areas, but the interviews would be on every TV everywhere.
When| This evening, at 6 pm sharp
Notes| Use this post to ICly react to the interviews (if you don't make plans of your own!)

The advertisements hit hard today. Tune in at 6 o'clock, you won't want to miss this special! Everywhere a person could look, it was there, and the city was clearly excited for whatever this mystery event was.

As if that wasn't enough, escorts were encouraging Tributes to be in the commons, and a small feast of finger foods was laid out along one wall, extra avoxes available for drinks.

And, as promised, at 6 pm sharp, all the TVs flickered to the ever flashy Caesar, on an equally flashy tabloid-tastick reality style "interview" of the tributes. All the TVs in the common area light up with it, as well as the Districts suites, even if the TV had been off before.

Hope you all enjoy your dose of fame!

He was never going to get used to the idea that the Capitol had pulled in kids. The Tribute nearby looked like a teenager, maybe seventeen at best, but privately, Daniel thought like he might have just hit fifteen. Worse than that, he was pretty sure he'd caught a glimpse of even younger Tributes.

An interesting job? You don't know the half of it, Daniel thought wryly. Going through an alien gate to hundreds of worlds pretty much qualified as unusual and 'never-going-on-a resume'. Which was going to do hell if he ever left the program, since there was no explaining the massive gap in employment.

"Despite what they'd have you believe, not that kind of a job. I'm an archaeologist." After a moment, he held out a hand. "Dr. Daniel Jackson. Nice to meet you."

An archaeologist, that certainly explained the almost bookish look the man had. Alex took his hand and gave it a firm shake. Not the bonecrushing kind of firm. Alex wasn't rude. Just enough pressure to not be seen as weak.

"Alex Rider, and likewise. So what kind of archaeologist are you? The usual kind, or the Indiana Jones kind?"

What? It had to be asked, especially after the heavily edited video they'd just watched. It wasn't as if being an archaeologist precluded someone from doing questionable things.

Daniel returned the shake, relieved that he wasn't going to completely go the chest-puffing route and squeeze the life out of his hand like he had something to prove, a big stick to wave around. Daniel's own clasp was firm but brief.

Although now he almost wished he'd had that instead of the Indiana Jones thing. The worst thing was that, looking back, SG-1 had done their share in destroying priceless finds, starting with Ra's ship and the Chulak prison, which had looked hundreds of years old. Daniel winced. "The kind that tries to do the complete opposite of Indiana Jones. Not all archaeology is setting off traps, destroying sites and shooting people first."

Ah, so the whole Indiana Jones thing was a sensitive subject. Alex looked slightly apologetic, as he'd probably feel the same way if someone made a comparison between him and James Bond. "True, but it makes for a great action movie. Have they ever made a movie about archaeologists that didn't involve priceless artifacts being broken?"

At least he didn't come into archaeology, thinking that he was going to study it and then rush off like Indiana Jones. That got shot down pretty quick. Sure, he brought interest to the subject to a wider range of people, but it wasn't correct at all!

Daniel shrugged it off with a sheepish grin after a moment. "I'm biased of course but real archaeology on its own is incredibly fascinating....but you're right, it wouldn't exactly sell tickets. I can't think of any good examples off the top of my head; explosions and excitement sells."

"So what was your speciality? Dinosaurs? Vikings? Mayans?" Alex actually sounds a little curious. He liked talking to people who were passionate about their work. Sabina's dad had always been interesting to talk to because of that.

Daniel sighed. Heavily. First Howard thinking Daniel studied eyes, now this kid thinking he studied dinosaurs. He probably had Jurassic Park to blame for that one. At least Jack hadn't gone down this or the Indiana Jones road when they first met. Although at the time, they hadn't gone out of their way to talk to each other before arriving on Abydos.

"Dinosaurs are what paleontologists study. I specialize in Egyptology. So ruins and people." And that was putting it in the simplest, crudest terms.

Egypt. For a split second, Alex's expression pinched. Then he blinked and he once again had a calm look on his face. "I went to Egypt on holiday not long before I ended up here actually. Cairo. Rather too hot for my liking though."

What was that? For a moment, his face seemed to cloud over at just the mention of Egypt, then it was gone. It was so fast he had to wonder if he'd just been imagining things.

Daniel went on, cautiously. "It can get pretty bad, but there's ways to deal with it; the locals know best. What did you think of it, other than the heat?"

"It was interesting. We went to a lot of museums and took a couple tours. Though frankly I was surprised there was much left after everything had been pillaged to other countries." Of which England was quite guilty of on several counts, if the displays in the British Museum were anything to go by.
