"You think anyone around this place would have Gumbo? Or...beignets?"

Except beignets reminded her of Tia. And Tia reminded her of home. And suddenly, even though she didn't want it, her face was crumpling.

Blaine's concern was just as instant as her changing expression. He went to her and put an arm around her. "Oh no, Lottie. What's wrong?"

"I just...I just...I ignored things, and I ignored them, and I ignored them...and suddenly I just couldn't ignore them anymore, and now I don't know what to do anymore!"

She knew she was blubbering. She knew she probably looked like a classic mess. But she just couldn't help it.

Blaine stayed with her, uncertain and worried. "Maybe I can help you?" he suggested. "We can deal with things together."

She sniffed, still dramatic, even in this state.

"Do you think?"

He had to have it rough too. He couldn't be much better suited for things than she herself was.

"Of course," Blaine said softly. "We're friends. That's what friends do."

[needsaprince]

"I just don't know what to do. I'll never win. I won't do what it takes. It's not that I couldn't it's that I won't."

It was one of the conclusions she had come to in her funk.

"But I don't know what I can do."

[mediumdrip]

Blaine nodded a bit at that. He knew exactly what she meant. "We could wait for an Arena that plays to your strengths? Maybe you won't have to hurt anyone, but you can outlast them?"

"Maybe."

She sighed softly, thinking things over.

"I think I'll just do better if I just...work to get out of the arenas as fast as possible."

"But..." Blaine started, and then found that the implications of what that would mean was to painful to say aloud. Instead, he moved closer and put his arm around her. "Are you feeling okay?"

"Not really. But there's not much to do about it, is there now?"

She leaned into his arm, giving a big, dramatic sigh.

Instead of answering verbally he kept his arm around her, trying to offer at least some comfort.

She took it, curling into him.

"You are a good friend. That is one thing I don't regret about this. All the people I wouldn't have otherwise meet..."

"That's a really good point," Blaine admitted. "We're from totally different times, and wouldn't have met if they hadn't have stuck us together."

[needsaprince]

"Exactly. I'm probably an old Lady in your time line."

Actually, likely, gone. But it wasn't a thought Lottie wanted to linger on.

"I bet you'd still be fabulous though."

[needsaprince]

"I will, hopefully, be a fabulous old lady." She said with a wider grin.

[mediumdrip]

"I can't imagine you being anything else," Blaine added.

"If I ever get back home I'll look you up and see if you're there."
