"The escort human's not so bad," Karkat says. "She doesn't have the cylindrical length of wood stuck up her spinal crevice that Effie does. But otherwise..." He shrugs. It had been better until Hyperion had got sent back, honestly.

[inciting]

That took a moment.

And then he got an out right laugh out of Katniss.

"Oh...wow, I don't think anyone's ever gotten to the heart of Effie Trinket as a human being so quickly."

Honestly, Effie kind of reminds him of Equius, only way less creepy and sweaty. And hopefully in possession of better taste because Karkat didn't care if naked musclebeasts were fine art, they were still stupid as fuck.

"At least she's not malicious, I guess. Just..." A highblood. "Effie."

[inciting]

Yeah, this kid really had her figured out.

Curious now, Katniss wandered over to the couch that Karkat was on, and found a place to lean against.

"She....I dunno. It's weird to think of Effie as a person, and not a Capitol sounding board. But...you get use to her."

"I've got used to a lot of worse assholes." Karkat was friends with worse people. (Even if--maybe especially if--they were people he wouldn't admit to their faces that he considered them friends.) "And she's letting me share Signless' block with him."

[inciting]

"She can surprise you that way." She had surprised Katniss more than once. "Are you and Signless related?"

She knew they were the same species, but the looked more alike then he did to any of the others. Then again, Katniss didn't know if that meant anything at all.

"He's my Ancestor and I'm his Descendant," Karkat explains, except, of course, that probably doesn't mean the same thing to a human because of their disgustingly creepy mammalian way of reproduction.

"That means the two of us have nearly the same genetics," he adds. "And that he'd contributed the genetic material to the mother grub that resulted in me being hatched." Except of course for ectobiology, but Karkat wasn't even going to try to explain that bullshit.

[inciting]

Katniss' brows knit together as she listened to his explanation. Human reproduction had never sounded particularly appealing, but compared to that...maybe she lucked out.

"So, yes, is what you're telling me?"
