With a nod, Don walked over and sat next to her. Once he did, he looked down at the floor, at his toes, his smile quietly turning into a small, sad frown.

"I understand how that feels. Lottie, I..." He looked up at her. "I'm sorry that I...well..."

He'd blown it. He made the promise to get her out and he'd blown it. Not that he didn't intend to keep trying, but he'd really hoped this Arena would have been the one.

"I let you down this time."

"Oh darling, you did no such thing."

She wrapped her arms around his big green one, and leaned against him. His skin was rough against her face, but what was to be expected from a giant turtle?

"You didn't put me in there. And you didn't kill me. You did what you could."

At this, he quietly wrapped his own arms around her, leaning in with a sigh.

"Maybe this time, Lottie."

"Don't beat yourself up over it." She said softly, leaning into the sturdy embrace.

"It'll happen when it's meant to happen."
