She scooted back, to give him room to sit, since the conversation seemed to be a bit more intense then most of the shallow, Capitol contact.

"Have a seat." She said with what she hoped was a demure smile.

At this, Jack walked over and quietly sat next to Katniss. Had she been standing, he would have pulled out the chair for her, but he instead contended himself with nodding his head.

"Thank you." His back was straight and tall, almost elegant. Still, his expression was one which suggested awkwardness. "First, listen. Perhaps it is strange of me to say, but...I just wanted to thank you for your work with your Tributes. I've seen you with them, and...I'm glad you want to help them. A lot of the other Mentors...they don't always look after the long-term well-being of their own."

Not simply for the glory of the Capitol, though of course, the glory of the Capitol was always a good thing, right?

[inciting]

She was taken a back. Not just because she didn't expect the compliment, but she didn't expect something so...sincere and humble from someone with such a grand personality.

And it meant something. To hear, from another mentor, that she was doing things right. Her and Peeta were doing what they could to make it work, but with Haymitch there...

"Thank you. That means a lot." She nodded her own head at him. "We are doing what we can. This is...different."

[akingalways]

"Indeed!" Some of that bravado came back with that. "And that is why you and I must continue to do our best, Catnip---Katniss!"

Damnit, he got it right the first time. His fist slammed onto the table, mainly from annoyance at himself.

"...RIGHT!" He did his best to recover, clearing his throat as he did. "Anyhow...I wanted to ask you, and you don't have to, but if you could keep an eye on one of our fellow Mentors as well. Calico Suere. She's from my District, but I know she's been having some problems since she...took ill a little while back."

He knew about the fact she'd taken drugs. Even if he hadn't seen the press conference - which everyone made a point to ask him about anyhow - his Sponsor had personally told him beforehand that that was part of why he'd been called back to the Training Center, because of Calico's drug problems. She'd actually missed an Arena because of them. Though Calico was obviously too proud to admit it to Jack's face, he knew that.

"She'd never admit anything to me about it. And I don't need to know the details. But I know she's struggling. I just want to make sure she's ok, when I'm not around. Eating properly and not putting garbage into her body."

[inciting]

Katniss started at the name slip, before frowning softly, uncomfortably. Around here, she wasn't sure she trusted that not to be some kind of manipulation. Especially with the favor so quickly after it.

And she wasn't sure what to do with that, even on it's own. She wasn't exactly the type of person to follow around strangers and mother hen them.

"I, uh...I'll keep an eye out for her."

[akingalways]

"Thank you. I promise I'll pay you back for it."

Jack was quiet for a moment, before looking up and seeing his Sponsor looking at him. He knew that look.

"Er...well then!" At this, he went to take Katniss' hand, in order to kiss it. "Its time for me to go. It was a pleasure to meet you at last."

[inciting]

This might be one of the odder interactions Katniss had had in the Capitol. Well, at least with another Mentor. She had gotten use to this level of strange and more with Capitol citizens, but she expected District people to be more...normal.

Apparently, not all of them.

"It's not really...alright. Thank you." She said, allowing him to kiss her hand and giving him another fake little smile.
