[PARTY POST]

Who: Glinda Upland and OPEN
What: A support group for people who've lost their powers in the Capitol.
Where: A suitably swankified meeting room in the capitol.
When: Sunday afternoon/evening.
Warnings/Notes: It's a support group intended for those who've lost their powers but there's nothing to say that other characters wouldn't hear about it and want to come along. Glinda wouldn't have anyone removed that wasn't invited. Feel free to use this as a party post and talk to other power nerfed characters.

The invitation had been sent to the Capitol escorts with the intention of them passing it on to the correct people in their groups of tributes. It was clearly intended for people who'd had their powers taken by the Capitol with no way of using them, though a few got given to those that shouldn't have received them.

Glinda's invitation. It's pink with charmingly fancy script. It invites the tributes to a gathering of 'likewise' people.

The meeting place was tastefully but sparingly decorated with lots of comfortable chairs for sitting and tucked away corners that would be perfect to discuss matters privately if an individual was shy about their particular power. Every care had been taken to ensure that the tributes would feel at home in the small cosy meeting hall and Glinda would take every care to ensure that she spoke to each and every tribute to welcome them and learn their name. She had been slacking in her self appointed duty of caring for those who needed it most and there were some here that definitely required her attentions.

After everybody had been sufficiently welcomed in and it seemed no more tributes, mentors or escorts were to arise the witch took to the pupil. "My fellow tributes. I can only thank you all for attending as gracefully as I might wish to though it pales in comparison to the gratications I feel toward you all." She pressed a hand to her heart. "I have brought you here as I know I am not the only person within these walls that has had her powers taken from her for her own protection and that of our gracious hosts; the Nation of Panem and President Snow. I am sure each and every one of us understands deep in our hearts the depth of feeling that the nation holds for us as it's tributes. And it's sincere wish to keep us safe when not competing in the arena." A subtle warning to the more foolhardy in the audience.

"But, for once I wish for us to have a unique opportunity that we have brought about ourselves. There is many a person in this room whom you have doubtlessly never spoken with before." She spread her arms. "Let us speak and know each other better. For we should be there to support our fellow tributes who have lost what so many believe to be an essential part of ourselves in the Capitol's rightful strivances to protect both us and it's citizens. I suggest that perhaps we might learn that we are in fact more than what we have had taken. But most of all, I wish that you all might find close friends and good fortune here."

And with that charged little speech she gestured to little crowd of avoxes who began circling with food and drink and all were encouraged to socialise among themselves whilst polite music played in the background.

Some thought the idea of a gathering, any kind of gathering, put on by a tribute instead of yet another of the fancy Capitol people sounded refreshing. So he came as himself, without any of the costumery that he was getting fond of. Tall as he was, he stuck to the back of the group.

Atticus

Atticus couldn't say that he was particularly sad to be missing his powers while he was in the Capitol. He liked being just a regular guy again, no super strength, no weird ability to smell things, no fire burning through him. It was way better this way. All he had to remind him of what he was were the extra hairiness and the strange color of his eyes.

Still, it was kind of interesting to see who else's lives had changed from being here the way that his had.

Nikola

Nikola is not the most social of creatures, but he is certainly curious to see who else has found something missing since arriving here (and perhaps to discover some way to have those things returned).

He finds himself a glass of wine and circulates the room, scoping out the competition.

He tried to show up a little later to best avoid the spotlight, just planning on grabbing some food and glancing around the room real fast. He's fine without his 'talent;' it's the one thing he's grateful for here, that no matter how bad things get, at least the city will stay standing.

The arena was a different story, but it was baby steps.

He smiled awkwardly to an avox as he grabbed a drink, free hand stuffed in his pocket. In a lot of ways, it felt like shmoozing for research funds, up to and including wondering why someone thought his presence was a good idea. He sipped rather than speak, wandering around the party with his head down as his normal crowd instincts take over and he tries to just blend in unnoticed, just planning on taking a lap and slipping out the door again.

He laughed quietly to himself before drowning it in a deep swig of his drink-- he didn't know why he thought coming here would be a good idea, it was just making him feel worse.
hasacondition: (just off the top of my head I'd say....)

He's making his own lap around the party, intent on just glancing around and calling it a day. He probably should have expected some of the more interesting tributes to be there, given the theme of the shindig, but that didn't stop him from taking an extra second to look over his shoulder-- jesus, that had to be about six feet tall--

which gives him just enough "not looking when walking" time to bump into someone.

"Oh, shit, sorry," he mutters quickly, trying to catch his glass before it sloshed out everywhere.

Speaking of about six feet tall...

Nikola is in a remarkably good mood today, or at least making a good show of it, and he manages to catch his own glass before it spilled, so he's able to respond with a smile.

"Not at all. These things do happen," he says, reaching out a slim-fingered hand to make sure the man is steady on his feet.

He catches himself fairly quickly, waving the help away in a self-conscious mix of gratitude and embarrassment. "Yeah, well, they tend to happen a lot more when you're walking without looking forward. Still on me."

The most awkward thing about this is that there's no easy way to just keep going without being pretty rude to the guy he just bumped into, so he smiles tightly to engage in boring party smalltalk. "Pretty good crowd of people." Apparently there were a lot of them with some sort of power. He could only hope theirs were better than his.

If he hadn't had been at a party designed for people with some sort of 'power,' it'd be hard to tell that there was something different about most of the people in this crowd. Then there were the obvious exceptions.

He realized after a second that he was basically staring; the best way out of that was conversation. "Sorry, is it rude to ask where you're from?"
ps_you_look_hot: (really?)

[personal profile] ps_you_look_hot 2013-05-27 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Nikola shrugs in response to his apology. "No harm done."

He's more than familiar with making small talk at functions like this, though it had been a long time since he'd had occasion to.

"It is certainly an interesting mix. It makes one wonder what the criteria for recruitment is in this place."

"The party or the 'games' themselves?" There's a hefty dose of sarcasm for that, though he quickly moves past it to cover it up. "Cause the party's pretty self-selecting."
ps_you_look_hot: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] ps_you_look_hot 2013-05-27 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I was thinking of the Games," Nikola says lightly. "It would seem many of us have given something up to be here, so to speak."
hasacondition: (well it's a cute idea in theory)

[personal profile] hasacondition 2013-05-27 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's a question he had been wondering about for a while-- the way some worlds (like his) were overrepresented compared to others, why so many of them seemed to have some sort of power that was just taken away anyway, the differences between the people chosen now and the way the games were run beforehand.

"Your guess is as good as mine," is what he says, though. "Apparently it used to be children from the districts-- kids from this world, not other ones. And they were, uh... more permanent. So there has to be some sort of reason for changing demographics when they changed it..."

[personal profile] ps_you_look_hot 2013-05-27 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I've heard that," Nikola says lightly. "I'd imagine the purpose of the Games has not changed, but something in their efficacy, perhaps?"

For his part, Some didn't realize he'd been stared at until he'd been addressed. He turned, upper body twisting first and then the lower body following, and smiled, careful not to bare his teeth.

"Oh, not at all. I'm from the River-Eaten pits in the caverns of All-Falls-In. On Earth, so if you are from there too, we are not aliens."

There had been something odd about seeing something quite so pink. The wrong pink sure, but still pink. It was as frivolous as it demanded immediate attention. He hadn't been sure how much of the invitation should've been taken at face value but he was sure either way he'd be facing a party more sea-dweller-esque in style than anything else. He longed for a brief moment to see again a gathering of the subjugglators, the color and stardust, blood and song, performance and executions, and all the howling laughter of the mirthful mixing with cries of the faithless-- but he would see none of that here, he knew.

He would attend regardless. There was always something to be said for knowing one's enemy, and being able to pinpoint who could be a threat- and how much of one- had worth to it. Which is the reasoning the Initiate gives to the Helmsman to drag him along with him, because why should the Initiate bear through it alone when he could bring another suffering fuck of a soul along for the show and/or lack of?

Once he arrives, the Helmsman in tow, he attempts not to be disappointed by the ever present lack of wicked elixir being served, and fails. He acquaints himself with yet another substitute for the drink and surveys those around, taking note of the faces here for future reference.

Even if he'd felt the need for food and drink, Wesker would have had no desire to spend his afternoon at an over grown tea party, but he did have a great deal of interest in his fellow, special, guests of the Capitol.

He'd seen many of them in action, of course, in the endless, cycling, feed of the games, but he could hardly pass up an opportunity to observe them in person, to hear them describe themselves in their own words.

He lingered at the edge the crowd, presumably studying a painting hanging from the wall whilst actually eavesdropping silently on the knot of conversations happening around him.

During one of her turns of the room, she might spot the marshal hovering in a corner. His blue eyes tired, but alert, as he watched his fellow tributes.

He wasn't sure how he'd warranted an invitation to this particular shindig, and was beginning to suspect his escort had lied to him.

"Oh, um... hi!" He smiled when he saw her, rubbing the back of his neck at her question. It was still kind of awkward for him.

"Well, um...I wouldn't say it's a talent, really?"
