Diana was...unhappy, if the understatement could be forgiven. Taken from her bed, stripped of her powers, tossed into this world where she was meant to fight and kill for the entertainment of the ruling class...

Well, she was familiar with concept, obviously, but that didn't mean she liked it. And she liked even less what little she'd understood of the situation, of the history, before she'd been ushered to her quarters. As soon as she was left alone she was off, exploring the building, the city, anywhere she was allowed to go in search of answers. Of a crack in the prison walls.

I was pleased with how they didn't shy away from brutality

That struck Sandy as oddly, in a twisted way, funny.

"You mean like how the guy on TV always used to say violent Video Games is what made people outside of New York go crazy and start hurting each other?" He also blamed it on Superheroes but Sandy never bought any of that.

Ooh, yes. It had flaws, but man the fight scenes were awesome

Diana couldn't help a wry smile herself. "Something like that, yes. Just, much more extreme." And they seemed content to leave the violence on the screens, from what Diana had seen. Although presumably the 'Peacekeepers' helped with that. "Why only outside of New York, did he say?"

Nathan Fillion too. I could listen to that man snark about the phonebook

Sandy realized with a touch of amusement that this was the first time anyone had asked about New York.

"Well, outside of New York they say the world is crazy and dangerous. Full of superpowered beings who play god with other peoples lives. Violence and death. The Mayor says that's why we had to close off New York to the rest of the world." But the tone of Sandy's voice indicated she didn't so much believe it.

They passed through an alley and Sandy led them up another one of the streets lined with shops and apartments. Fewer people were here to stare, but the feeling of being constantly watched was impossible to ignore.

"Is that so," murmured Diana, processing this. They were definitely all from different worlds, then, some more different than others it seemed. "Seems like a rather extreme decision, to cut yourself off from the world." It wasn't irony if Diana said it right, she hadn't been there when the Amazons decided to abandon Man's World.

"Yeah well...I didn't have any say in it. It happened before I was born." And she had always wanted to visit the outside world. But not like this.

"At least you've heard of New York. Most the people around here just go "Where?" And Effie says I'm supposed to fight for some District full of people I've never even met before."

"Once you've been to a few different universes, you get accustomed to the strange looks when you talk about home," said Diana, half joking, half serious. "What District did you say you represented? Perhaps we share."

"District 12." Sandy remarked offhandedly. "But it's really hard to want to win the games for them when they're treating my life like a TV show." Then again she still hadn't met the people of District 12 so she was just assuming.

"Somehow I doubt the Districts are any happier about the Games than we are," she said, thinking over what she knew so far. "I believe before they...changed things, the Tributes were, I believe the word they used was 'reaped' from them." At least according to that horrid propaganda video she'd been made to watch before being released into the city.

Of course, it was possible that when that practice stopped the Districts interest in fighting the Games also did, but Diana had more faith in people than that so rather than voicing the errant thought she said, "I'm representing District 5."

"Great, so not only do they get a prize if one of us wins, but we're stand ins so none of them die. I'd be on board too if I were them." she sighed only half believing her own words.

"I'd like to think that people are better then that...but not alot of the locals have done much to convince me of that."

Diana couldn't resist putting her hand on Sandy's shoulder again. "I don't think you should stop believing that there is good in these people, even if we can't see it. It's harder to fight something like this from the inside, especially when it's all you've ever known."

She looked around at the few gawkers left, and frowned. "Not," she added, "That that absolves them of the burden of responsibility."

Well that made sense. Sandy reflected on her own world, and how hard it was to fight it when everyone around her in her age group had only ever known the Reign.

"We need more tributes like you...try not to die." She muttered looking away shyly. After all they were supposed to be enemies. Every last man and woman for itself. But she really hoped that this woman might stand a chance at changing peoples mind.

"I will do my best," Diana vowed softly, smiling, though she couldn't help the cynical thought that if she wasn't able to stop this before the end of the coming Arena, her death was inevitable. She would hardly allow herself to win while others such as this girl were forced to fight again and again. "And I'll be holding you to the same standard I hope you realize."

Sandy laughed, a tragically bitter laugh for someone so young. "My best isn't much, but I'll give it." She promised. Not even sure what that would mean.
