We're a thousand miles from comfort, we have traveled land and sea

Who| Initiate, Terezi, and eventually Albert
What| Lovebirds get caught,
Where| Outside, around a park in capitol
When| Around nowish, maybe a bit further along.
WARNINGS| Language.

He doesn't wear gloves upon his cold fingers. It's cold out but, so is he, and truth told it's kind of interesting to just... feel it.

That, and Terezi's hand, what is held tight in his.

He's got a wide smile upon his face, all swelled up with that good feeling even when he ain't looking at her proper. He almost has no choice but to look away, lest he burst from it.

He's got no direction in mind, no place what to go, and far as he's knowing, neither does she. Out in the park where it's all that sparkling crisp glitter, like stardust so bright it burns the eyes, he's perfectly content. He gets her attention with his eyes and nods upward, little flecks of cold stardust shimmering on down.

Like a Miracle.

After a minute or so watching that one, he turns to the one next to him, eyes going soft. He doesn't dare go quick, lest he gore his eyes upon her horns, but he leans down to offer her the quickest kiss.

She doesn't wear gloves, either. She probably should, all things considered, but Terezi likes the feel of Kurloz's hand in hers, and that worth just a bit of chill on her fingers. She follows along beside him wherever he decides to lead her. There are no plans for the day, just being out away from the tower while they still have time to wander about.

He turns to her, and she catches the scent of his expression. It makes her chest flutter when he looks at her like that, but it's no longer in that terrible anxious way. Not now that they know exactly where they stand. He leans down to kiss her and she leans up on her tiptoes to meet him halfway.

When they part again, she smiles up at him, wide and bright and easy. Her hand squeezes tight in his.

"Look, watch this," she tells him, then turn her face up towards the sky, mouth open and tongue hanging out. It takes her a few seconds, but she manages to get one of the snowflakes to land, and her tongue darts back in like a lizard's with a bit of prey. She laughs a bit, wrinkling her nose. "It's cold. You try it."

His laughter only makes Terezi grin wider. She squeezes his hands for a moment before letting go and stepping back. Crouching down, she manages to scoop up a little pile of snow in her bare hands, despite the coldness against her skin. It's not much and she doesn't handle it enough to clump it together very well, but it's enough to serve her purpose.

Getting back to her feet, Terezi grins devilishly before throwing it at him.

Having arms that big should really be cheating, or at least some sort of penalty. Terezi doesn't wait around to find out if he'll actually do it. She already knows he will. She turns and bolts, heading for the nearest tree. It seems like she might try to duck around it for safety--and she does, before immediately scrambling up the base and into the upper branches.

"You'll have to catch me first!" she calls down in a sing-song tone, followed by a bout of laughter.

Clearly, she thinks she's safe up there.

Oh ho. So he can climb. If one really wants to call that climbing.

"If you think your silly clown playsets are anything like climbing real trees, then I really feel sorry for you," she calls back down, shit-eating grin plastered on her face. It's about that moment that she decides that dodging the snow he threw at her is probably a better idea than taunting him more. She ducks, clinging to the branch as the icy cold weapon flies over her head. The movement jostles the branch she's on, sending a bit of snow falling to the ground. She contemplates it for a moment before turning a newly mischievous grin down at her matesprit.

It takes her a few seconds of sniffing about to find the right branch--just enough snow in just the right place over the spot where he's clinging. With exaggerated effort, she jumps up to grab the branch, dropping her full weight onto it to shake the snow from it's perch.

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-23 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
She laughs at his attempt to avoid the snow, but if there's one thing she's learned from living in the trees it's that there's a limited number of ways to go when you have to travel on the limbs. Most trolls aren't very adept at quickly mapping out a route like she is.

He makes like he's going to jump to a new branch, and she's already thinking about what branch she can move to when the snow comes flying. She doesn't get a chance to dodge, but her hands come up to shield her face. The snow smacks against her arm, shattering into a spray that launches snow into her hair.

She might have laughed at the assault--he did manage to hit her, but in that moment her foot slips on the icy branch. She drops with a startled yelp, wide red eyes staring blankly as she reaches out to grab something to stop her fall.

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-23 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
She catches his shoulder at the same time that he catches her, and she clings like her life depends on it, adrenaline pumping through her limbs. A few deep breaths follow as soon as she realizes that she's safe and sound, and then a small but shaky laugh.

"I'm okay," she assures him, feeling the rush ebb out of her again. She doesn't seem much bothered by it otherwise. "It's okay, it wasn't your fault." Well, maybe it was a little, but she doesn't have to tell him that. He seems worried enough as it is, and they were just having fun.

She lets go of his shoulder to touch his face instead, brushing his cheek in what she hopes is a comforting gesture. "I wouldn't have fallen the whole way. It's happened before, back home. I would have caught myself."

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-24 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
He doesn't believe her. Well, she can't really blame him. She doesn't know for sure that she would have been okay. She only figures that a fall like that wouldn't have killed her, at the very least.

If she can't comfort him with words, then she has other means. He bumps their foreheads together, and she smiles softly at the gesture. "It's okay," she says again, placing an emphasis on the words like that might get them through better. Whether they do or not, she leans up, kissing him slow and gentle, trying to at least coax a smile out of him.

There's an old taunt that runs childishly through Albert's mind as he watches the two Trolls K-I-S-S-I-N-G from a few yards down. He had no intention of disrupting their moment before, let them have their fun, but his surrogate daughter's near-fall to the ground was worrisome enough that Albert can't just walk back off into the cold. No, now he has another idea in his head. One that will probably embarrass both of the young people in question, but he has to make sure.

Plus, well... considering he and Jet will never have children, this is the closest he'll get for practicing at fatherhood.

He walks over, booted feet crunching in the thin layer of snow as he comes to a stop underneath their branch and shades his eyes to look up at them, despite his sunglasses. "Are those two lovebirds I spy?"
pythianjudgment: ([d] so not cool)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-25 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably a good thing that Kurloz has a hold of her, or Terezi might have taken another tumble out of the tree--simply from how fast she pulls away from the kiss. She knows that voice, and her cheeks are already flushed with teal before she even manages to catch the scent of her district-mate (and sorta-lusus, if she were being honest about the nature of their relations).

She really just wants to hide her face from the knowing grin that he is bound to give her, but the only cover is to bury it against Kurloz's chest... And that isn't really helping matters.

"There are no birds of any kind up here," she manages to retort back, but the effect is probably lost by the way she's turned her face away--like she can't look down at him.

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-11-25 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Long enough." It's ambiguous enough to be mischievously threatening. Not of any real negative consequence, but Albert's well aware of the teenage penchant for dramatics when it comes to adults being present for anything romantic.

"Why don't you two come down on solid ground, hm? I've been meaning to talk to you." Sort of. He'd refrained since Terezi so much as asked him not to get involved, but kissing, he's fairly certain with his limited knowledge of Troll romance, doesn't fall under auspisticeship (or whatever the word is). Human culture dictates that, as Terezi's self-appointed guardian, he stick his nose in and make sure his daughter is being properly taken care of.
pythianjudgment: (pic#7427756)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-25 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Why don't you come down here, he says, and Terezi has the urge to climb higher into the tree instead. She knows that whatever Albert has to say, she is probably not going to want to hear it. Trolls do not have the same sort of culture of parental teasing and worry that humans do, but she's already faced the brunt of Albert's teasing once before.

"I think we are perfectly fine up here. In fact, I am pretty sure that we are stuck. Frozen to the tree, even. There is no possible way that we are able to come down."

There is no way that she's going to make this easy for him.
silberfuchs: (hmm)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-11-25 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I can wait." He folds his arms, watching and trying not to smirk. He does stone-faced very well.
pythianjudgment: (pic#7427742)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-25 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
There is no reason for Albert to be giving them that look. They are not doing anything wrong--and yet a part of Terezi is wondering if maybe they are. He's certainly making her nervous.

Kurloz wants to climb down, and she gives him an unhappy look for caving on her. "Yeah, I can," she mutters, sighing heavily. Reluctantly, she untangles herself from his grip and carefully climbs down the trunk of the tree.
silberfuchs: (I know better)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-11-26 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Without moving, Albert nonetheless spots their descent with his eyes, making sure neither slip nor come to harm on the way down. At Initiate's face he nearly breaks character to reassure him but the lanky Troll takes a jump down to the ground after Terezi and saves Albert the interruption.

He steps between them. Not literally right between them, but in a space between and aside, still a presence if not a hindrance. "So, I see you two are having a nice time out. Is there something I should know, maybe? Something that's changed?"

He looks specifically at Terezi, a bit of a mischievous sparkle in his silver eyes that he knows she can't see.
pythianjudgment: ([d] bluh bluh whatever)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-26 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Something he should know, he asks. Terezi purses her lips and crosses her arms over her chest. It's not that telling him hadn't crossed her mind. It certainly had, after the number of times she had talked to him about the difficult situation she was in. But she had intended to let him know in her own time... not with the prying invasiveness that he is engaging in right now.

"I'm not sure. There may be a huge difference in the number of people that were involved in this outing, if that is the change that you are interested in."
silberfuchs: (self satisfied)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-11-28 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. And the changing nature of your relationship isn't important?" He raises an eyebrow, looking at them each in turn but settling on Terezi. "I'm hurt, I thought we were closer than that. Didn't you think I'd want to make sure you're safe?"

He's not referring to the near fall from the tree, but it could easily be construed as such.
pythianjudgment: (pic#7427745)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-28 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Kurloz smiles at her, and she can't help but smile back conspiratorially. That remark seems to completely make up for making her get out of the tree. "Right."

She almost feels bad for not telling Albert--up until he mentions the part about her being safe. She looks surprised at that comment, like the thought hadn't even crossed her mind. She knows what she meant by her teasing, and she knows that Albert knows what she meant. So she's quite aware that he's not talking about tree safety in this case.

"I wasn't ever in any danger to begin with," she responds, and she doesn't seem to care now if her hand reaches for Kurloz's, grasping and linking their fingers together. It's a bit possessive, the way that she stares him down, as if she were saying This is mine, and you can't take that from me.

"There's no reason why you should think that I wasn't safe."
silberfuchs: (little lion man)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-11-30 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Of course," he acquiesces to that. There's playfully torturing young people as the prerogative of their elders but he doesn't want to push it into any real breach of trust or friendship where his relationship with Initiate is concerned. Still, he does want to tell Initiate something without Terezi's intrusion.

"Even so, I want to talk to you privately for a few minutes. Terezi, you can wait for us on the bench over there," he says it with the same tone as a father might order a wayward child to the car.
pythianjudgment: (pic#7427742)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-11-30 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Human-lusus or no, Terezi doesn't take well to being told she can wait to the side like a good girl. She is not a very obedient alien daughter. The tone only makes her bristle, clutching Kurloz's hand tighter.

"Whatever you have to say to him can be said in front of me, can't it?" she asks, more of a challenge than a question. She doesn't know exactly what Albert has to say to the Initiate, but she can take a pretty good guess what it might be about. And Terezi has never liked to idea of someone trying to manage her relationships in her stead.
silberfuchs: (spooky)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-02 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Albert's knowledge of sign language is limited at best but he does know the alphabet and O. K. is plenty obvious. He's internally pleased to find the communicating even in the face of... whatever he happens to represent here. Angry (but not actually angry) parental figure, he supposes.

"Terezi. Please." Her tone may be defiant but there's still a question in the phrasing. He looks down at her with his pupilless eyes, his voice soft but firm and solid, utterly immovable with no hope that he'll change his mind simply because she wants him to.
pythianjudgment: (pic#7427725)

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2014-12-03 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Terezi isn't quite sure that she understands the message that Kurloz is trying to send her. O.K. What's okay? This? Because this doesn't feel okay. This feels like she's being sent away unfairly--for something that she doesn't even understand.

For a moment she wonder if she missed something--maybe he wasn't going to talk about what she thought he was? But it still doesn't explain why he's trying to get her to leave. Even if it was some plot or scheme, he would trust her enough to include her in that... Wouldn't he?

Albert says her name and 'Please' in that tone, and she has a good mind to leave--with Kurloz in tow. But that isn't the vibe that she's getting from her matesprit. He clearly wants to stay and hear the older man out. Which leaves her feeling like she doesn't have much choice in the matter.

She lets go of Kurloz's hand. She doesn't say a word to Albert, her mouth set in a tight unhappy line. She only shoots him a glowering look before marching off in a different direction than he intended. It shouldn't matter as long as she's gone, so at the very least she is going to make her displeasure known.

She sits down on the ground at the base of a different tree and starts piling up the snow in front of her into a small mound. Her attention, however, doesn't waver from the two that she left behind, and neither does the final look that she gave Albert.

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-08 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mostly that I want to tell you congratulations. And good luck." His previously dour expression breaks into a smile that's almost sunny, if Albert's expression is ever sunny. "Terezi is quite a handful, but she cares a great deal for you. I'm glad things worked themselves out between you two."

He glances at Terezi, the picture of brooding teenager and he has to quell the upswelling of affection for her, though it's a little to slow to prevent it reaching his eyes. "It was just a bit of fun at her expense earlier, I hope you'll forgive me."
silberfuchs: (happy)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-08 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He nearly flinches at the punch, but it's just out of habit. He doesn't feel anything through the metal. The accusation though, that earns Initiate a laugh. "Thank you, I thought it was effective. Your utter deer in he headlights expression was an added bonus."

He gives an affectionate rap of his knuckles to Initiate's arm in return, very light and barely touching as Albert is still learning accurate control and doesn't want to bruise his friend accidentally. "Honestly though, I know you'll take care of her. There was never any doubt. But promise me something too, alright? Let her take care of you too. I don't know how it works for Trolls, but for Humans it's each par- each matesprit that offers and accepts equally to each other in a successful relationship."
silberfuchs: (soft look)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-11 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He usually only gets 'fuck you, Heinrich' from an embarrassed Jet but this is at least in the same spirit and so he takes it in stride. He deserves it at any rate.

His smile doesn't slip so much as soften as he listens to Initiate explain Terezi. It makes sense and is as he expected, yet still hits home in an unexpected way, though he supposes it shouldn't have been unexpected. He and Initiate have much in common. Their monstrous histories - or potential futures. Their love of someone they perceive as being so much better, so much brighter than they are. He can relate to this, to not wanting to burden your partner with something that feels almost too heavy on yourself.

"Something I've learned, Initiate, and yet only come to terms with recently. It is surprisingly difficult to be a burden on someone who loves you. They will take your cares not from you, but help you carry them, just as you'll carry theirs without complaint. If she had anything to tell you, or even everything to tell you, wouldn't you want her to? You'd want to take care of her no matter what it was, isn't that right?"
silberfuchs: (sympathy)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-21 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm by no means an expert, especially not on how Trolls do things, and I mean no disrespect at all, but..." He's not sure he should say this, but Initiate should know him well enough by now to know he means no harm or offense, so Albert continues. "But even if you were brought up with these ideas of what quadrants are supposed to be, I don't see how in a new place, and a new set of circumstances, that a little blurring of the lines isn't to be expected."

Albert shifts his weight from one foot to the other. "Less than twenty years ago in my time, the majority of Humanity believed that a successful relationship could only be between two individuals of opposite genders. Now, Jet and I, both men, are married."

He shrugs. "It's not a perfect metaphor, but attitudes change, constructs change over time and based on situations. All I'm saying is perhaps the lines between quadrants aren't so heavily drawn."
silberfuchs: (Default)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2014-12-30 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever he'd said about drones and culling seems ominous to Albert despite his lack of understanding, but he doesn't say anything on it. It's what Initiate says for them, that this is how they want it, that makes him smile and shrug. True, if Terezi wants something else, they may have some rocks ahead but there's something in how Initiate is, how he carries himself around his matesprit, that leaves Albert feeling they'll be alright.

"Far be it from me to undermine your desires, consider what I said of no consequence then." He smiles and pats Initiate's arm, hand still practically radiating cold under thick gloves but it's only for a moment. "Keep what makes you happy close. That's the last I'll say on the matter."

Especially since he expects some sort of retaliation from Terezi soon. That girl is so against sitting and waiting at times it's a wonder she hasn't started organized protests against stillness.
pythianjudgment: ([g] pchooooo)

hope this is ok!

[personal profile] pythianjudgment 2015-01-02 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
The only reason that Terezi hasn't been organizing protests against stillness is because she's been weaponizing her spot under the tree. There is a small pile of snowballs that she has accumulated during her sulking stint beneath the tree. And by this point in time, she's more than certain that Albert had no important "business" to discuss with her matesprit. No, this was all about her, insomuch as she can hear from Kurloz's side of things. The mentions of "her" and "quadrants" and various others are pretty damning evidence.

The first snowball goes flying not long after Albert finishes speaking. It splatters on the ground a few yards away from where the two are standing. A second hits the tree that her and Kurloz were in a few minutes ago. A third smacks wetly against Albert's back.

Terezi punches the air victoriously at her success.
silberfuchs: (pleased)

[personal profile] silberfuchs 2015-01-07 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't have taken him as long as it did to react to the snowballs, but he doesn't get out of the way despite having started to move and the resulting slush down the back of his shirt sends a prodigious shiver through him. Luckily, this is a game that two can play. Or three, seeing as Initiate has already run for cover.

Albert leans down and scoops up an armful of snow in the same motion of slipping around the nearby tree to use as cover between himself and Terezi. A moment later, he's started packing snowballs. Not too tight, just enough that they'll explode in a satisfying shower of white when they strike their target. Despite the childishness of it - or maybe because of - Albert smiles warmly to himself where he hopes the other two can't see as he makes his ammunition.

He's simply happy to have family again.
