We're a thousand miles from comfort, we have traveled land and sea
Who| Initiate, Terezi, and eventually Albert
What| Lovebirds get caught,
Where| Outside, around a park in capitol
When| Around nowish, maybe a bit further along.
WARNINGS| Language.
He doesn't wear gloves upon his cold fingers. It's cold out but, so is he, and truth told it's kind of interesting to just... feel it.
That, and Terezi's hand, what is held tight in his.
He's got a wide smile upon his face, all swelled up with that good feeling even when he ain't looking at her proper. He almost has no choice but to look away, lest he burst from it.
He's got no direction in mind, no place what to go, and far as he's knowing, neither does she. Out in the park where it's all that sparkling crisp glitter, like stardust so bright it burns the eyes, he's perfectly content. He gets her attention with his eyes and nods upward, little flecks of cold stardust shimmering on down.
Like a Miracle.
After a minute or so watching that one, he turns to the one next to him, eyes going soft. He doesn't dare go quick, lest he gore his eyes upon her horns, but he leans down to offer her the quickest kiss.

He turns to her, and she catches the scent of his expression. It makes her chest flutter when he looks at her like that, but it's no longer in that terrible anxious way. Not now that they know exactly where they stand. He leans down to kiss her and she leans up on her tiptoes to meet him halfway.
When they part again, she smiles up at him, wide and bright and easy. Her hand squeezes tight in his.
"Look, watch this," she tells him, then turn her face up towards the sky, mouth open and tongue hanging out. It takes her a few seconds, but she manages to get one of the snowflakes to land, and her tongue darts back in like a lizard's with a bit of prey. She laughs a bit, wrinkling her nose. "It's cold. You try it."
no subject
"TRY IT BECAUSE IT'S BEING COLD. Makes as for perfect motherfucking sense," He teases, bumping his forehead first against hers. Then his other hand is reaching for the one of hers what he ain't got yet.
He turns his face up to the sky, hesitating just a few moments, before exposing a tongue what he's got no right to have twofold. He waits a minute or two like that, feeling silly but not feeling bad for it, until a snowflake lands. It tastes like water. Just cold water. He laughs again.
no subject
Getting back to her feet, Terezi grins devilishly before throwing it at him.
no subject
“YOU’RE DEAD, PYROPE,” He laughs.
no subject
"You'll have to catch me first!" she calls down in a sing-song tone, followed by a bout of laughter.
Clearly, she thinks she's safe up there.
no subject
He wasn't so familiar with trees as she was, but maybe he could swing up. There's gotta be some way he can do this. The question was, how could he do so without losing all his snow? There was no way about it; he'd half to ditch about half his snow.
He takes a step back makes all to throw the first half from the ground. Then, hoping she's perfectly distracted by that, he takes a run and leaps one handed for the first branch what looks sturdy enough. He swings himself up in the air like a proper performer, bark all chipping up into his palm. There's that split second avenue of landing proper on the branch or landing back on the ground and knocking the wind out of him. His feet catch on the branch and his arm goes to hang on tight as the branch creeks and he near slips on the ice. It's a good few minutes before his breath is caught enough to move again. That was far too close.
But still, he grins up at her. She who's still far higher than he. He's still got some snow left.
no subject
"If you think your silly clown playsets are anything like climbing real trees, then I really feel sorry for you," she calls back down, shit-eating grin plastered on her face. It's about that moment that she decides that dodging the snow he threw at her is probably a better idea than taunting him more. She ducks, clinging to the branch as the icy cold weapon flies over her head. The movement jostles the branch she's on, sending a bit of snow falling to the ground. She contemplates it for a moment before turning a newly mischievous grin down at her matesprit.
It takes her a few seconds of sniffing about to find the right branch--just enough snow in just the right place over the spot where he's clinging. With exaggerated effort, she jumps up to grab the branch, dropping her full weight onto it to shake the snow from it's perch.
no subject
He realizes what she's doing all too late and the smile slips off his face. He tries his best to tuck himself against the base of the tree but even still some of the snow gets on him, all in his hair and into his clothes, for the snow to trace down his back. He reaches to gather what he can of that snow into the remainder of his snowball.
He squints skyward at her. No matter how he tries to climb she's always going to get ahead of him. But if there's no branches in the way for snow to fall on him, there's none in the way to throw. He looks about like he's going to leap to another branch, hopefully to fool her, then at the last minute, throws the snowball in her direction.
no subject
He makes like he's going to jump to a new branch, and she's already thinking about what branch she can move to when the snow comes flying. She doesn't get a chance to dodge, but her hands come up to shield her face. The snow smacks against her arm, shattering into a spray that launches snow into her hair.
She might have laughed at the assault--he did manage to hit her, but in that moment her foot slips on the icy branch. She drops with a startled yelp, wide red eyes staring blankly as she reaches out to grab something to stop her fall.
no subject
It all happens in seconds and his eyes squeeze shut tight once it registers that she's safe. "SORRY. I'm sorry. THAT WAS ALL KINDS OF MOTHERFUCKING STUPID. Are you alright? Please motherfucking tell me you're okay."
He's miserable now, all at once, and he damn well deserves it.
no subject
"I'm okay," she assures him, feeling the rush ebb out of her again. She doesn't seem much bothered by it otherwise. "It's okay, it wasn't your fault." Well, maybe it was a little, but she doesn't have to tell him that. He seems worried enough as it is, and they were just having fun.
She lets go of his shoulder to touch his face instead, brushing his cheek in what she hopes is a comforting gesture. "I wouldn't have fallen the whole way. It's happened before, back home. I would have caught myself."
/casually pretends that last sentence was capslocked
She can say she'd have been fine all she likes.
He bumps his forehead down against hers, still holding her tight.
no subject
If she can't comfort him with words, then she has other means. He bumps their foreheads together, and she smiles softly at the gesture. "It's okay," she says again, placing an emphasis on the words like that might get them through better. Whether they do or not, she leans up, kissing him slow and gentle, trying to at least coax a smile out of him.
ALBERT GO
"Okay," He breathes on her lips, repeating her. And then he's back to kissing her some more, drawing her close to him. Up in a motherfucking tree.
no subject
Plus, well... considering he and Jet will never have children, this is the closest he'll get for practicing at fatherhood.
He walks over, booted feet crunching in the thin layer of snow as he comes to a stop underneath their branch and shades his eyes to look up at them, despite his sunglasses. "Are those two lovebirds I spy?"
no subject
She really just wants to hide her face from the knowing grin that he is bound to give her, but the only cover is to bury it against Kurloz's chest... And that isn't really helping matters.
"There are no birds of any kind up here," she manages to retort back, but the effect is probably lost by the way she's turned her face away--like she can't look down at him.
no subject
While Terezi's first instinct is to pull away, his is to pull her right close. With wide eyes, he looks down upon Albert. He most certainly is really standing there right now.
"H... HOW LONG WAS YOU BEING THERE...?"
no subject
"Why don't you two come down on solid ground, hm? I've been meaning to talk to you." Sort of. He'd refrained since Terezi so much as asked him not to get involved, but kissing, he's fairly certain with his limited knowledge of Troll romance, doesn't fall under auspisticeship (or whatever the word is). Human culture dictates that, as Terezi's self-appointed guardian, he stick his nose in and make sure his daughter is being properly taken care of.
no subject
"I think we are perfectly fine up here. In fact, I am pretty sure that we are stuck. Frozen to the tree, even. There is no possible way that we are able to come down."
There is no way that she's going to make this easy for him.
no subject
"Come on, let's go see what he wants," He whispers to her. "CAN YOU CLIMB DOWN?"
He can probably make the jump, he thinks, eyeing the ground below.
"Hang on. JUST A SECOND," He calls to Albert.
no subject
no subject
Kurloz wants to climb down, and she gives him an unhappy look for caving on her. "Yeah, I can," she mutters, sighing heavily. Reluctantly, she untangles herself from his grip and carefully climbs down the trunk of the tree.
no subject
Oh no. What did he do now? He thought he'd already gotten in trouble for all and every thing what he could've gotten in shit for. He doesn't mean to rain on Terezi's parade, but this is the exact sort of thing what he's been learning not to do-- avoiding this all, that is.
He lets go of her, hand still extended out as her fingers leave his. Then he readies himself and leaps, landing in a crouch upon the ground. He doesn't say a word just yet.
no subject
He steps between them. Not literally right between them, but in a space between and aside, still a presence if not a hindrance. "So, I see you two are having a nice time out. Is there something I should know, maybe? Something that's changed?"
He looks specifically at Terezi, a bit of a mischievous sparkle in his silver eyes that he knows she can't see.
no subject
"I'm not sure. There may be a huge difference in the number of people that were involved in this outing, if that is the change that you are interested in."
no subject
Terezi goes right on with that dry sarcasm, and Initiate's feeling left out of the joke. He looks from Albert to Terezi, then back again.
"AIN'T NO THING I'M KNOWING OF WHAT NEEDS KNOWING..."
His mouth twitches. One thing's changed, not that Albert mentions it. He can't help it. Suddenly he's smiling at his matesprit.
"Right, Terezi?"
no subject
He's not referring to the near fall from the tree, but it could easily be construed as such.
no subject
She almost feels bad for not telling Albert--up until he mentions the part about her being safe. She looks surprised at that comment, like the thought hadn't even crossed her mind. She knows what she meant by her teasing, and she knows that Albert knows what she meant. So she's quite aware that he's not talking about tree safety in this case.
"I wasn't ever in any danger to begin with," she responds, and she doesn't seem to care now if her hand reaches for Kurloz's, grasping and linking their fingers together. It's a bit possessive, the way that she stares him down, as if she were saying This is mine, and you can't take that from me.
"There's no reason why you should think that I wasn't safe."
no subject
Albert knew about that. He knew about them being ashmates before. He can't recall, had he told Albert that?
Didn't you think I'd want to make sure you're safe? There's a moment of horror, hurt, the guilt flashing across, the confusion as for what all is meaning to come of this, why is this happening, the motherfuck is up and getting going on?
His hand locks with Terezi's. "WOULDN'T HURT HER WITH NO INTENTION." Not no more. "Things is just the same. SHE'S MY BEST FRIEND. That ain't changed."
no subject
"Even so, I want to talk to you privately for a few minutes. Terezi, you can wait for us on the bench over there," he says it with the same tone as a father might order a wayward child to the car.
no subject
"Whatever you have to say to him can be said in front of me, can't it?" she asks, more of a challenge than a question. She doesn't know exactly what Albert has to say to the Initiate, but she can take a pretty good guess what it might be about. And Terezi has never liked to idea of someone trying to manage her relationships in her stead.
no subject
At Terezi, he signs to letters with his free hand, while squeezing with his other. O. K. Probably one of the few things she would know to sign, as Kurloz had taught ever so brief.
It's okay. Trust me. Won't let you down. Just in case if Albert answers no.
no subject
"Terezi. Please." Her tone may be defiant but there's still a question in the phrasing. He looks down at her with his pupilless eyes, his voice soft but firm and solid, utterly immovable with no hope that he'll change his mind simply because she wants him to.
no subject
For a moment she wonder if she missed something--maybe he wasn't going to talk about what she thought he was? But it still doesn't explain why he's trying to get her to leave. Even if it was some plot or scheme, he would trust her enough to include her in that... Wouldn't he?
Albert says her name and 'Please' in that tone, and she has a good mind to leave--with Kurloz in tow. But that isn't the vibe that she's getting from her matesprit. He clearly wants to stay and hear the older man out. Which leaves her feeling like she doesn't have much choice in the matter.
She lets go of Kurloz's hand. She doesn't say a word to Albert, her mouth set in a tight unhappy line. She only shoots him a glowering look before marching off in a different direction than he intended. It shouldn't matter as long as she's gone, so at the very least she is going to make her displeasure known.
She sits down on the ground at the base of a different tree and starts piling up the snow in front of her into a small mound. Her attention, however, doesn't waver from the two that she left behind, and neither does the final look that she gave Albert.
no subject
He blows a puff of air up at his bangs as she walks off. He turns then to Albert, looking up with countenance all of question.
"So what's all being down with the wicked shit, brother?" He asks.
no subject
He glances at Terezi, the picture of brooding teenager and he has to quell the upswelling of affection for her, though it's a little to slow to prevent it reaching his eyes. "It was just a bit of fun at her expense earlier, I hope you'll forgive me."
no subject
That's it. That was it and being all.
The Initiate stares at him in disbelief. Then suddenly punches the metal of Albert's arm. He points at him.
"You fallacious motherfucking unfortunate. YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE. Well played."
no subject
He gives an affectionate rap of his knuckles to Initiate's arm in return, very light and barely touching as Albert is still learning accurate control and doesn't want to bruise his friend accidentally. "Honestly though, I know you'll take care of her. There was never any doubt. But promise me something too, alright? Let her take care of you too. I don't know how it works for Trolls, but for Humans it's each par- each matesprit that offers and accepts equally to each other in a successful relationship."
no subject
"FUCK YOU, HEINRICH. For all I knew some fucker went and died. DIDN'T HAVE NO KNOWING WHAT AS YOU WERE GETTING REFERENCE UP ONTO," He says all with a pout, before Albert can even get to his concession.
He falls quiet then. His shoulders loosen. He looks down.
"I'll try," He says. "I MEAN." He sighs. "She don't know it. I AIN'T THINK SHE DOES. But this is so much being her, where she's steered me right and help me up. SHE ALREADY TAKES HER CARE ON OF ME. Any much more and I'd think my ownself naught but a burden to her."
no subject
His smile doesn't slip so much as soften as he listens to Initiate explain Terezi. It makes sense and is as he expected, yet still hits home in an unexpected way, though he supposes it shouldn't have been unexpected. He and Initiate have much in common. Their monstrous histories - or potential futures. Their love of someone they perceive as being so much better, so much brighter than they are. He can relate to this, to not wanting to burden your partner with something that feels almost too heavy on yourself.
"Something I've learned, Initiate, and yet only come to terms with recently. It is surprisingly difficult to be a burden on someone who loves you. They will take your cares not from you, but help you carry them, just as you'll carry theirs without complaint. If she had anything to tell you, or even everything to tell you, wouldn't you want her to? You'd want to take care of her no matter what it was, isn't that right?"
no subject
It's not just that either.
"I WOULD," He answers quick. "Of course I motherfucking would." But. "I JUST... we're matesprits. WE AIN'T MOIRAILS. I'm meant to stand beside her, not be a mess for her to clean up after. I WAN'T HER THINKING LIKE SHE CAN DEPEND ON ME TO BE STEADY FOR HER. I want to do this right. ALREADY GOT FUCKING UP ONE QUADRANT WITH HER."
He laughs at his ownself, shaking his head. "Guess that means I should listen then to the motherfucker what's doing well on his own quadrants then huh?" He smiles wry at Albert.
no subject
Albert shifts his weight from one foot to the other. "Less than twenty years ago in my time, the majority of Humanity believed that a successful relationship could only be between two individuals of opposite genders. Now, Jet and I, both men, are married."
He shrugs. "It's not a perfect metaphor, but attitudes change, constructs change over time and based on situations. All I'm saying is perhaps the lines between quadrants aren't so heavily drawn."
no subject
He could swear she mentioned it, at least once. Some time ago when he'd not yet even called her friend. Karkat had got all fuckin uppity about her business and what that even motherfucking meant of him. Karkat had been up in a lot of things.
And then there was his ownself, with the other Vantas. Of course he was going to let it slide, see how it fucking went. Of course, he had to, motherfucker was pale for the whole world. But there was something nice to him about being that special one.
"IT AIN'T BY RULES DONE CONSTRUCTED-- Like your gender restricting rules what is kinda motherfucking ill-advised by the way, not even counting that brothers is just as nice as sisters is, that's just cutting right up drone season selectionaries as to be culled messy and... POINT IS, I'M THINKING THAT THIS IS BEING HOW WE WANT IT." He hesitates, just a moment. Maybe it'd be worth to take some of that up. "Maybe she doesn't... mind a little bit of... what you is saying. SINCE AS SHE'S GONE TOLERANT OF HIM. But keeping it as like this is the right thing to do, I think." He nods, less to Albert, and more in confirmation to himself.
no subject
"Far be it from me to undermine your desires, consider what I said of no consequence then." He smiles and pats Initiate's arm, hand still practically radiating cold under thick gloves but it's only for a moment. "Keep what makes you happy close. That's the last I'll say on the matter."
Especially since he expects some sort of retaliation from Terezi soon. That girl is so against sitting and waiting at times it's a wonder she hasn't started organized protests against stillness.
hope this is ok!
The first snowball goes flying not long after Albert finishes speaking. It splatters on the ground a few yards away from where the two are standing. A second hits the tree that her and Kurloz were in a few minutes ago. A third smacks wetly against Albert's back.
Terezi punches the air victoriously at her success.
no subject
"I WILL," He promises.
He doesn't expect the snowballs, and for all serious things what go down, at the end of the day, he is a clown. And at the end of the motherfucking day, as all the snow is lobbed to splatter against Albert's back, the Initate makes a loud guffaw. There is no apologetic covering of his mouth, nor even the slightest tract of guilt. He is all of full on laughter.
But not enough so to think he ain't sure to be a victim right next. He's already darting off.
no subject
Albert leans down and scoops up an armful of snow in the same motion of slipping around the nearby tree to use as cover between himself and Terezi. A moment later, he's started packing snowballs. Not too tight, just enough that they'll explode in a satisfying shower of white when they strike their target. Despite the childishness of it - or maybe because of - Albert smiles warmly to himself where he hopes the other two can't see as he makes his ammunition.
He's simply happy to have family again.
