After Some woke up in his room, a few days ago, he gave himself time. A little peace, a little space. He stayed in his room, he favored his restored leg. He tried to get reaccustomed to the paste they pretended was food for him. He stole a pair of tribbles from the room down the hall, and rebuilt the nest that the avoxes had tidied away in his absence.

On the third day, though, he armored himself in shawl and hat, deliberately asking Two's stylist to help him choose clothes to be a little silly, a little disarming. He wanted to be approachable. And then he headed out. He rode the glass elevators, looking out, down one and up the other and down again. He visited the rooftop garden, and and picked twigs there off the potted trees. He went to the dining hall, to eat, or play along in that pretense again at any rate. He left the tower, going out into the streets and looking for a cafe he thought he remembered from before. And everywhere he went, he sought company.

Amazingly enough, Hans gets the gist of what he's trying to represent. The explanation helps some too. He's genuinely curious about Some's species, having never seen anything remotely like him before. Hans has his downsides, but he does take an eager interest in learning about people.

"Well, it's like nothing I've ever seen, but home is where your heart is, right?" He gives him a soft smile before his expression twists in surprise, brows raising curiously. "Four years? You've been here four years?"

"Not here." The details Some is adding now are for his own sake, not Hans's. He draws the tiny spiral of his mother's storywalk, the tiny cup-shaped cavity where he liked best to play when he was only Mennet. "I spent three years in another City, called Bete Noire... I had a home there too. I want to go back."

At this point, Hans’ attention has taken a drastic shift from the model to what Some is telling him. He looks a little bewildered at the idea of Some living in a city, not aware of the fact that he was placed there as he had been placed here.

“What made you move there initially?” He can’t help wondering, Some seems so happy with his original home.

"Oh." Some lifts his spoon, lets it hover over the tiny model for a moment. "It took me. It seems the pass-time of Cities. Not for games like this one; just to live there." He smiles, but it's only his lower mouth this time, and not very convincing.

If he looked confused before, he's damn bewildered now. He gapes for a moment, eyebrows shooting up and manners not stopping him from showing his surprise. "There are other places where this is possible? Kidnapping innocent people from their worlds and putting them in another one?" He looks skeptical, for a moment. His eyebrows are knitted together, but a look of clarity finally dawns on him and he exhales in exasperation. "I suppose it's not all that hard to believe, really."

"If I went only by my experience, I would say that is what all human cities do." His smiles are a bit teasing. "Maybe they make a hobby of it, and compare collections."
