The Capitol had been winding up to this for weeks. More and more extravagant decorations had begun to appear all over the city. Gruesome alleys dripping with gore, houses transformed into creaking, ancient cobweb covered dwellings, flickering ghosts haunting windows and doorways. The citizens themselves had becomes more and more extravagant as the days crept closer, dripping in glitters spiderwebs, hair teased to coil around pumpkins and crows, and decked out in meticulous costumes, often celebrating past victors, and even current tributes.

The ball at the Tribute Training Center wasn't anywhere near the only party that night, but it was the most extravagant, and the most sought after. The decorations had gone towards the classic (perhaps the goverment realizing other areas might move too close to home.) The building had been transformed into a spooky, ancient looking mansion, over taken by spiders and lit with flickering candles everywhere. The tables were spread with unimaginable heaping of treats, from grotesqueness mock organs to sparkling jewel colored sugar covered candies. Avoxs move about, for once literally ghosts, covered in their own shrouds of spider webs and sheer gauze, holding plates of smoking drinks.

Attendance for the Tributes was mandatory. As were costumes. And oh boy did their stylists go all out for this one. It was a parade and a party all rolled into ones and they weren't going to slack on that.

"I think almost all of that goes without saying," he says with a wink, and moves his hand from her waist to take her by the arm, ready to lead her away if she's willing to follow. Which, by his best estimate, she certainly is.

There is a collective blinding, buzzing flash-pop of cameras and mindless chatter from almost all directions around them. Good for publicity. Bad for his near-omnipresent annoyance at 99.9% of the human beings in this room. And he's pretty certain that number is entirely accurate.

Once upon a time, Max's eyes would have adjusted themselves instantly to the flashes, but at the moment she has to depend on the capacity of a normal human to manage the flares of light. It's easier with Tony guiding her.

Max swipes a cut glass carafe full of scotch from off the bar without even missing a beat as they sweep past, and a couple of tumblers aren't far to follow. Once they're in their corner and taken a seat, Max sprawls in her chair, and idly puts her high-heeled feet in Tony's lap. They're the very picture of decadent leisure. Only Marie Antoinette and her crew could do it better.

"So what do you think of the new tributes?"
nightlightheart: (yes. it's very cool)

He settles in, samples the scotch and finds a nice warm place to rest his hand on Max's leg before he grins an answers her question with a shrug, "Only a couple of them look like they could twist my head off with their bare hands."

"I'm starting to think you're not even bothering to try." Max snorts. His hand on her leg doesn't trouble her at all. In fact, she shifts a little because the photo hogs will totally want a shot of that.

"You should let me help you. To do better. I mean, it's in my interest to train District 1's Tributes, but I do owe you."
