The Capitol had been winding up to this for weeks. More and more extravagant decorations had begun to appear all over the city. Gruesome alleys dripping with gore, houses transformed into creaking, ancient cobweb covered dwellings, flickering ghosts haunting windows and doorways. The citizens themselves had becomes more and more extravagant as the days crept closer, dripping in glitters spiderwebs, hair teased to coil around pumpkins and crows, and decked out in meticulous costumes, often celebrating past victors, and even current tributes.

The ball at the Tribute Training Center wasn't anywhere near the only party that night, but it was the most extravagant, and the most sought after. The decorations had gone towards the classic (perhaps the goverment realizing other areas might move too close to home.) The building had been transformed into a spooky, ancient looking mansion, over taken by spiders and lit with flickering candles everywhere. The tables were spread with unimaginable heaping of treats, from grotesqueness mock organs to sparkling jewel colored sugar covered candies. Avoxs move about, for once literally ghosts, covered in their own shrouds of spider webs and sheer gauze, holding plates of smoking drinks.

Attendance for the Tributes was mandatory. As were costumes. And oh boy did their stylists go all out for this one. It was a parade and a party all rolled into ones and they weren't going to slack on that.

Almost falling into the group of citizens, he looked up at smiled like a kid at Christmas towards the turtle. "Dude.. you're... Donatello! You're a teenage mutant ninja turtle! I grew up watching that show! And the movies were freakin' awesome!"

Nodding at the question, "Yeah. 'Fresh Meat' as they've called me so far." Looking at the women around him, "are they always this bad?"

"Uh..." The mention of movies and shows results in a very confused and awkward - but nevertheless still polite - smile. "Thanks?"

He might as well have asked what the shell this guy was even talking about, or how he knew his name, or even what he was. That was very odd...a bit creepy...because, really? Movies? Wha?

"They can be, depending on how well you do in the Arena. You get used to it - you kind of have to." Quickly, though, he turns to his slightly drunk would-be sponsors. "Not, er, you guys, though. You are all right."

Shaking his head, smiling still though, "You're welcome. You guys are idols to kids everywhere in my world, so just... go with me on this one."

Following the turtle's gaze, though Dean was still a bit in shock at the fact that the turtle was there, and he was talking to him, he was a bit confused, "Who are those freaks?"

"I...I will."

Because last he checked they were fugitive savage alien beasts...

Before Don can answer, the girls answer. Ghost! Mouse! Angel!

"They're Capitol citizens. I'm...guessing no one really told you what this was all about?"

Shaking his head, "Yeah. No one told me about this stuff. I got plucked and put here. Not sure what the point of all this is..."
polyturtle: (this final jeopardy is hard)

"...Yeah..." At this, Don frowned and turned to the girls. "Could you excuse us for a moment? Your...glasses look empty."

At this, the girls squealed and giggled, going off to the bar.

"Ok." At this, Don's voice became quiet. "You've been brought to a world called Panem. Basically...you and a bunch of others - myself included - have been brought to the Capitol of this place, to participate in gladiatorial games as Tributes, in lieu of the Tributes they used before. These games are aired on television to the entire country, like a reality show. Our job is...to fight each other to the death, over and over, for the gratification of the Capitol. Its also a...reminder to people who don't live in the Capitol."

Best to word it in as un-negative a way as possible - while also being negative at the same time - to ensure this new guy understood what was going on.

Dean's jaw almost dropped. After watching the girls walk away, he listened to part of what Don had said, and then the mention of fighting to the death was brought up. "... I do not kill in cold blood! That is so against my ways, dude. It's ... just not okay." The hunter had no idea what to do, beginning to rock back and fourth on his cowboy boots.

"We...don't exactly have much of a choice at the moment. Even if we refuse, they have no problem just...killing us permanently, or figuring out a way to force us to cooperate."

Not that he exactly missed Tate, but then again, death wasn't the only way they could forcibly persuade cooperation, and he had no doubt of that. Shades of the Fugitoid - or even him - in the thrall of the Triceratons, actually.

Rubbing his face, he just sighed, "..awesome. That's...awesome."
