He had told himself he was fine. He had died, woke up, got a shower and went out. Breezy pausing only to check the death toll. Blaine and Kurt had survived, they must have escaped. Well at least his dead hadn't been completely in vain. His escort had even congratulated him for fighting back, like they had expected him to just lie down and die. He had smiled and headed to a bar. He had just died, he figured he deserved a drink.

One drink had led to another, and one club had led to another, he had veered off from the main clubs by the tribute tower and had found a few ones that played decent music. Nothing he knew of course, but heavy and angry, matching his mood.

That had been two weeks ago, he had slept at times. Either back in the tower or wherever he found himself. Not always alone. Being alone was painful, as was being sober or not being high. He had all the money he wanted and so he spent it on forgetting.

Somewhere deep down he knew he was acting like Frank and it sickened him, a burning hatred that reared up whenever he was sober enough to think. Though he had always drank, and smoked shit it was never serious, just mucking about with Mandy or Lip. He had wanted to be an Officer, or if he couldn't be, his GPA was not the best, join the army and work his way up. It had kept him focused, kept him training, kept him out of the worst of trouble.

He didn't have that anymore, or more he had it in a twisted nightmare form. An eternal soldier, unable to die, not fighting for any cause just for entertainment. Killed and revived on the sick whims of a crazy futuristic society. It wasn't going to change, and they weren't going to escape, shit like that didn't happen. The Capitol had no reason to change, this worked for them. So what was the fucking point of trying anymore? So he had stopped trying, stopped thinking and everything had become so much easier.

Tonight was a night like the nights before, he moved from club to club, going with the crowds. Not knowing where he was, not caring. Escaping from his own head, because everything was shit and finding a way to make it not shit would involve far too much thinking.

"Not sure, what's he said to you already?" He hadn't said anything to Ian inside the arena, just appeared in the night and killed him.

"He's just all about how the games prevent war and it would be worse without them, all that shit."

"I haven't had to talk to him yet," Mindy confessed. "If we met, I'd probably be at a disadvantage anyway: I mean, he IS a ninja, right? One that, I guess, is totally fine with killing a whole lot of people."

At this, she frowned. "Yeah, that's the rumor. I'd love to know how now slaughtering us over and over again prevents a war though."

"Yeah, like any of these fuckers could fight a war anyways." He had never seen wealth like there was in the Capitol, at least not in real life. At least not close up.

"But that's what they all believe."

"They don't have to be good in a war. All they have to do is be scared shitless that it'll ever happen. So long as they hold the keys, that's the real thing that'll keep things the same way."

Honestly, the only way to make any of this not a waking nightmare would be a direct terrorist action. That, considering how tightly watched this place was, would take some time.

"Yeah." He shrugged, "Exactly. It's all a fucking lie spread by fear." If Lip were here he'd have some far flung theory about it all, he was good on government motives.

"I'm guessing your latest death wasn't a barrel of laughs," she said, which any idiot could tell by his intoxicated state. "Gotta say though, seeing you beats meeting up with more Capitol propaganda. Hell, even hearing that bitch Azula talk is better than the 'for the greatest good' shit touted about the games."

"Which deaths are." He shrugged, "It was no worse than most." He had got to fight it, he guessed that counted for something.

"Don't know Azula, but anyone who doesn't talk crap is good in my book."

"Point," Mindy said, shaking her head. "I mean, I died, but I guess it could have been worse. I mean, I could have bled to death after a few hours. It felt pretty fucking bad to start with."

She grimaced. "I remember her, all right. Black hair, looks about just reaching teenage hood, golden eyes. Probably one of the most evil people I know. I hate her. Gonna see if I can coax her to do Pilates with me next Tuesday."

The last part was obviously a lie.

"She kill you?" She seemed to hate her enough that she had. Or perhaps they had just fought. He smirked at the last bit.

"Invite Donatello and I'm in."

"She came close," she said, grinning. "I mean, your leg is in a bear trap and she pretty much almost wrenched it off. But I left her with one less eye as a parting gift. Somehow I can't wish he well after leaving me to die slowly and painfully though. Go figure."

She snickered. "I miss the version with all the inventions, sad to say."

"Good for you." He doesn't seem phased by such violent things from a kid. Though he'd hate it he'd hope that Debs or Carl would be just as tough if they got thrown into such a situation.

"Yeah, the one that wasn't batshit crazy."

"I died," Mindy said flatly. "I could have done better. But then there's way more than just these games. That's the other part of being here."

She was quiet a moment. "Ever see the Districts at all?"

"Yeah well, we all could have done better." He shrugged and then frowned shaking his head, "Never. Never seen outside this city."

"The running out of food part really sucked," she said, remembering how empty her stomach had been. "So what do you do to distract yourself?"

It might give her an idea of something she could be doing.

"Yeah, always does." He shrugged and then grinned. "Nothing that you should be doing." He told her.

But despite the fact he was drunk, and he was done with all of this, he figured he should at least give her some advice. "Keep training, and keep smiling, convince Sponsors your worth backing." So pretty much do the opposite of what he was doing.

Mindy chuckled. If he meant drinking and partying, no, Mindy was definitely too young for that. The shitty thing was, what DID they have for the younger tributes, now that she thought about it?

"Got it," she said, giving him a look. "So, what, are you the fun loving, cut loose kind of tribute that they love to watch?"

"No." He shrugged, "But this is a more do as I say not as I do advice session."

"And you know how us kids love that kind of advice," Mindy said dryly, though she had figured this might be the case.

"Hey, since I have you here all drunk like, curious. What's your world like?"

"It's..." He shrugged, "I guess it's pretty shit, but not as bad as this one. For the most part people pretend they care about others."

Alright they pretended to care about some others. "What kind of world do you come from?"

"Well, that's what people say," Mindy said, although who knew? Maybe things were that good where he was from. She didn't count on it though.

"A pretty hard nosed one. You pretty much accept people are corrupt and you live your life ignoring the fucked up shit crimnals do for the sake of keeping yourself out of trouble. You could say I was an 'objective dissenter' to that."

He nodded and shrugged not offering further info. Then smirked at her words, though he guessed he would count as a criminal. He figured he definitely played his part in making his bit of the world a bit more fucked up, even if it was for survival most of the time.

"Yeah? Keeping out of trouble not your style?"

"Keeping out of trouble means you let it happen to somebody else," she said, "so nah, not my thing. Dad was a cop, and he was n jail because of crooked cops, so I mean, you think that would fly? We're more the Charles Bronson types like that. Now here, well, ting s are a little different."

He nodded at that, crooked cops were crooked cops but he could pretty much imagine what her dad was like, from what she had told him already. "Yeah, things are a little different." He leaned in to lower his voice, "Pretty sure the cops are still crooked though."

"I bet. If you can take a bribe, I guess you will, you know? People are lazy and they look out for themselves. So they'll take whatever they can get."

She looked over at the thundering nightclub. "Oh wait, am I keeping you?"

"Yeah." He shrugged and then looked over at the nightclub and shook his head, "Naw, I won't be missed," And even he needed a breather every now and again.
