Carry on

Who| Shion and open
What| Shion wakes up after death
Where| Tribute tower and then round the city
When| Late week two, after Shion wakes up
Warnings/Notes| Mentions of arena, also No.6 spoilery creepy stuff

Shion didn't think he would ever get used to waking up after being killed. The fear and pain then waking up as good as new on a metal cot. In a different body if Wesker was correct, a cloned body, not the body that had gone through the arena at all. One that had not struggled or died, starved or froze. Broken bodies disposed of like old clothes but the memories remained.

So was it just their memories that made a person? Did the body not matter? Safu had still been Safu, even when she was just a projection, just the brain kept alive by machines, not even part of the body anymore. Fused with Elyurius.

He had left her, there was no way to save her. But... she was still Safu and she would have still felt. That and this were technology that could do so much good. Horribly injured people, people in tragic accidents, people whose bodies were so badly damaged. The ability to keep the brain alive without need of the body and transfer consciousness. Yet both No. 6 and this city were not using it for good. They were using it to hurt or for entertainment.

He remained silent, only answering questions until he was let go. He was tempted just to curl up on his bed, hide under the covers and pretend the last week hadn't happened. But it had. And his friends were still in there. And they needed help, he was pretty useless to them inside the arena but outside. He could help there.

Play to your strengths, he was never going to get far in the arena. He was weak, he didn't know how to fight, the rules of the world that he knew could be bent and changed. That had been proven this time, food that he knew was safe making them sick.

He refused to kill. But he could help them from the outside. They needed sponsors.

So he didn't hide. He got dressed in the most comfy clothes he could find and left his room. He might not be as good an actor as Nezumi but he could try.

So he was smiling as he went down into the lounge and sat watching the feed of the games, making notes in his book. Which of his friends needed the most help, and even those that he didn't know. Those that were struggling. Taking note of the arena, all the parts he had missed whilst being in it. Including the fact that many mentors were in there.

Later he walked round the city, watching people. Taking note of their reactions as they watched the games on the screens that were everywhere. He needed all the information he could get.

Really he didn't have much of a plan, but he only knew that he could not continue the way he was, being nothing but a burden. He had to fight this, and for now he could do it by helping his friends. He also listened because even in No. 6 there had been those that sighed, not so convinced that their city was perfect. Surely there had to be such here as well, and he was just not looking carefully enough.

"I suppose it is." He watched the screen for a little while. It was educational to see what everyone was up to when there were so many in the arena. If he planned on killing any of them the information might come in useful for future arenas. "I'm not used to being in the arena for so short a time."

"Well done." At least it seemed like that was something worth congratulating him on. "What got you in the end?"

He nodded. He could imagine that tributes might pick on Shion as an easy kill. "Dehydration. I didn't drink the whole time I was in there." He said it with a calm, blank face, not about to talk about what that had been like.

Ian shrugged. "It hardly matters now." It might for the next arena, but that was far enough off that he wasn't going to be thinking about it yet. "At least here no one's trying to kill us."

"Yes, we can." He turned his attention to the screen for a moment, but it was currently showing people who looked well stocked-up. For now anyway, who knew how long that could last.

"I suppose if you really wanted someone to win you could try and send them a lot of supplies." It might not help them survive a fight, but they'd do better at surviving long enough to fight.

He nodded. "I suppose that's what sponsorship is all about. Convincing wealthy people that they can help Tributes win." He hadn't really thought about it before, beyond receiving things in the arena.

I much prefer helping people to killing them." And out here they could help without worrying about being killed.

Ian sighed. "We do." There would be more choices if only everyone agreed to them, but quite aside from the fact that it would never happen, there was no way to talk about it in public without being overheard. "If everyone had the same preference the arena would be quite different, I think."

"That's a good idea." Ian could make a mental list at any rate. "It's a pity the mentors are in there too. They'd be the best people to tell us who needs things and doesn't already have sponsors."

"Maybe more than most, since they're rusty at this. Or they need less help because they've won before, so they know how to not die." They'd find out which was true by watching the feed. At least there was a way to know what was happening in there.

"True," he agreed and took the paper. He was quiet for a while while he watched and made notes.

((OOC: That might be a good place to end, with both of them watching the TV and making notes.))
