Just a little tea party - open to absolutely EVERYONE
It's not official, or anything. Not at all. But after her recent... experiences... Calico is determined to show anyone who cares to watch her that she can be a good mentor.
So she's set up a tea party in the park.
It's Calico, so it's fancy - and the poor Avoxes she had helping her cart it all down and set it all up certainly seem to think that she's gone a bit overboard for a simple picnic. Calico is studiously ignoring that... and ignoring that some of them had been imprisoned alongside her before now.
There are streamers - glittery, of course, hanging out of trees, and big paper lanterns, lit, quite unnecessarily in the bright sunlight, with battery operated candles. On the floor, rugs, edged in ribbons, and yet more sequins - and in one case, several feather boas - lie scattered, with cushions dumped haphazardly around as Calico grew more bored. A big old fashioned gramaphone is set up - but it's not the source of the music, as Cal has no records. Her little music player is tucked behind it, playing something she heard at the ballet once.
On the food side... well, the table looks gorgeous, decorated with garlands of fake flowers and glittered plates. A large vase of ostrich feathers takes centre stage. There are cupcakes scattered amongst the sequins, highly decorated, of course, and platters of biscuits and little dinky sandwiches with glittered toothpicks through them. Vintage style cups, jazzed up to go with the Capitol exuberance and Cal's own glittery enthusiasm, stand piled in their saucers - the poor avoxes are 'in charge' of the tea. But for those who want stronger, sparkling rose wine stands in buckets of ice and, for the kids, lemonade is ready and waiting.
To occupy the party, Cal's brought a couple of baskets of her scraps, a few half finished shawls and plenty of bangle things so that people can make their own to their taste - they are getting quite the hot commodity in the Capitol now. Threads and needles are available, and even a hot glue gun (operated by battery) stands ready to attach sequins and feathers and whatever else people fancy sticking on their designs.
Anyone and everyone is invited to come and chill - it's a chance to rewind after the Games, for Tributes and mentors and the stylists and the like - and a chance to meet the tributes for any Capitol citizen who fancies turning up. Come talk amongst yourselves, attempt a sponsor deal... or chill by yourself listening to the tinkling music and making some cloth jewellery.
Utterly exhausted (doesn't take much) with all of her planning and setting up, Cal grabs a frosted cupcake and sits down, on a rug with a sigh. After all of her effort, she hopes someone is blumming watching!

"It looks like you've put some effort into this. Anything going on I should know about?"
no subject
"Nah, love. This is what the Capitol's abou', parties an' stuff. I thought a tea party picnic'd be a good chance to chill."
She kept her tone neutral, and checked the bristling she already felt at Holiday. Something about the woman just wound Cal up!

She glanced around and then back to Calico. The mentor was being oddly nice to her since she had gotten back and Holiday hoped it wasn't a pity trip about her arm... though she really doubted it.
"It's nice. The party."
no subject
Cal wished she had another cake. So awkward with Holiday. SO AWKWARD!
"So... how're you doin'?"
no subject
"Well, enough. Happy to have two arms again. And you?" Perhaps she should wrap this up. This is too weird.
no subject
"Yeah, Chris told me abou' tha', love. Glad yer grew 'em back, like. Me... yeah."
Cal draws her knees up to her chest, and leans her chin on top of them, flouncy skirts spilling out.
"Yeah, I'm alrigh', I guess."
no subject
"Are... you sure?"
no subject
She shrugs.
"Jus'... dandy, love. Bleedin' dandy."
And then she stares off into the distance.
"Hey... d'you still want tha' cuff coverin' up, love?"
She's fighting to put some enthusiasm into her tone.
no subject
She looks down at her cuff for a second and nods, finally moving closer. "Yes, I would, if you're still offering."

Cal's complete change in attitude probably is worrying. But she's doing her best to play her part - even if it does come off as a little vacent and definitely not particularly enthusiastic.
no subject
"I'd like this one, Cal," she said, going back to her mentor.
no subject
"I reckon that'd suit you. Kinda muted, like - but shines dead nice in the right light. Ok, love - cuffed hand out. I'm gonna use the hot glue to fix it on - they tell you off, say your mentor did it whilst you were asleep, righ'? Ain't nowt you could do."
She beckoned the Avox who happened to be hanging onto one of Cal's battery operated glue guns so that she could get started.

It took her a moment to register the rest of Calico's words and nodded, holding her arm out steady. "Thank you, Cal."
no subject
"There love. You look much prettier when you smile. You should try more."
no subject
"No, you're right. I will."
no subject
"BUGGER. I mean - oh, jus' smile. I don't care if you don't like it. You smile anyway. Go' it?"
Bloody horrible what this Capitol did to everybody, wasn't it? Nobody even free to show their true emotions. But what could Cal do? Only keep her tributes vaguely safe.
no subject
"I'll try."
