Just a little tea party - open to absolutely EVERYONE
It's not official, or anything. Not at all. But after her recent... experiences... Calico is determined to show anyone who cares to watch her that she can be a good mentor.
So she's set up a tea party in the park.
It's Calico, so it's fancy - and the poor Avoxes she had helping her cart it all down and set it all up certainly seem to think that she's gone a bit overboard for a simple picnic. Calico is studiously ignoring that... and ignoring that some of them had been imprisoned alongside her before now.
There are streamers - glittery, of course, hanging out of trees, and big paper lanterns, lit, quite unnecessarily in the bright sunlight, with battery operated candles. On the floor, rugs, edged in ribbons, and yet more sequins - and in one case, several feather boas - lie scattered, with cushions dumped haphazardly around as Calico grew more bored. A big old fashioned gramaphone is set up - but it's not the source of the music, as Cal has no records. Her little music player is tucked behind it, playing something she heard at the ballet once.
On the food side... well, the table looks gorgeous, decorated with garlands of fake flowers and glittered plates. A large vase of ostrich feathers takes centre stage. There are cupcakes scattered amongst the sequins, highly decorated, of course, and platters of biscuits and little dinky sandwiches with glittered toothpicks through them. Vintage style cups, jazzed up to go with the Capitol exuberance and Cal's own glittery enthusiasm, stand piled in their saucers - the poor avoxes are 'in charge' of the tea. But for those who want stronger, sparkling rose wine stands in buckets of ice and, for the kids, lemonade is ready and waiting.
To occupy the party, Cal's brought a couple of baskets of her scraps, a few half finished shawls and plenty of bangle things so that people can make their own to their taste - they are getting quite the hot commodity in the Capitol now. Threads and needles are available, and even a hot glue gun (operated by battery) stands ready to attach sequins and feathers and whatever else people fancy sticking on their designs.
Anyone and everyone is invited to come and chill - it's a chance to rewind after the Games, for Tributes and mentors and the stylists and the like - and a chance to meet the tributes for any Capitol citizen who fancies turning up. Come talk amongst yourselves, attempt a sponsor deal... or chill by yourself listening to the tinkling music and making some cloth jewellery.
Utterly exhausted (doesn't take much) with all of her planning and setting up, Cal grabs a frosted cupcake and sits down, on a rug with a sigh. After all of her effort, she hopes someone is blumming watching!

"Everything looks so nice," he said, trying to compliment the host.

She patted the rug on which she sat.
"Come an' plonk yourself 'ere, love. Grab a cupcake. Grab some tea. Come an' enjoy the sunshine."
no subject
"I did. It was perfect. Thank you."
no subject
She sat back, more than content to just chill out.
"Why haven't I seen you much before, love?"
no subject
"With a friend." He ended. Then he felt terrible for lying so he looked away, hoping that it still seemed more embarrassed than anything.

She glanced sympathetically at Ayase. Poor kid. They shouldn't be doing that to kids. Awkwardly, she patted his back, and bent to whisper in his ear.
"'S alrigh', kid. We're all in it. Me, Jack... Eva sometimes. 'S what they do. Nowt to be ashamed of. You jus' gotta learn to ignore it all, all the whispers an' everythin', alrigh'?"

"I'm okay," he said. "What about you?"

Cal snorted. In the past two months alone, she'd lost her best friend, been tortured by Penny and Katurian, effectively killed her whole family, except her younger brother, Bobbin, effectively killed a load of District 8 citizens - and destroyed a factory. And to top it off, she had to pretend that everything was just fine.
"Hunky-dory, love. Look, it ain't no big deal - an' they try to do it to you,"
Because they would.
"You come to me an' I'll yell at 'em, okay, kid? I always wished someone had yelled for me."
Another snort. Cal had over ten years' experience in that game now.
"Petraitus claimed me a couple'a years back... bu' I fink he's fed up wiv me. Bloody girlfriend in re'ab constant, like... no sex? Nah. 'E's fed up o' me, I reckon. Might be nice. Migh' be a reprieve, like."

She HATED this. The poor kid was obviously scared witless. He LOOKED terrified to Calico. Probably how she had looked when it first started happening to her. And what scared Cal more, was how nonchalant she was about the whole thing. Who was blase about things like this? 'S not right. But that was the Capitol, no? How they got in your head and changed your perceptions of things? It frustrated her, as well, that there was absolutely NOTHING she could do to help poor Ayase either. Someone had to stand up and shout out about it though. They couldn't keep doing this to kids.
"Look, love. Are they doin' it to you? Just nod if it's easier."
She was in way over her head here - and in no position to help - but what was she supposed to do? Block it out and ignore Ayase?

"You mean... more than one?" he asked, not really sure what counted as doing it to him too. There were a lot of things that happened to him, but it didn't sound at all like what she was saying.

Calico wasn't embarrassed. But she was beginning to wonder if she was scaring Ayase more than he already had been.

"Ok," he said after a moment of steadying himself. He was scared, because he didn't think that he could go through what had happened to him with his sponsor all over again, but he didn't have to deal with that right now and he didn't want Calico to worry about it. "I'll try."
