It took a lot to fill a day, devoid of school or work. Sometimes she followed Katniss or visited with Cinna. The rest of the time, when she didn't have a book to read or a ball to bounce against the wall, she went out to the city.

They had a lot of things out there, making her head whip about. She couldn't buy any of it, without relying on her credit card, but she could stare into the windows and mouth her awe. The books in their display cases, the clothes - so many types of shoes and dresses: she couldn't imagine people going through so many outfits, back home. None of the shoes even looked practical.

She had some thoughts about searching out herbal shops, or pressing people for information on the capitol's medication... Somehow, the cake shops and toy stores always drew just as much attention, though. The sweet smells and bright lights... All the things she never could have imagined back home.

Most recently was the tickle-me trolls. Staring at the familiar faces of the tributes, and remembering what it was she had heard from them. How could they be child friendly?

"Are you new here?" she asked, turning his question back on him. She was watching him curiously.

"Not really," he admitted. "I've been here several months. There's too many people."

"Oh...." she felt a little embarrassed, looking away. "I didn't see you."

He shrugged. "I don't like being around so many people."

"Have you been in your room?" she asked, wondering where he'd been at the parties.

He nodded. "Mostly. Unless I gotta go to the green room or a party or the escort kicks me out for a few hours."

I don't think that's very healthy. [Yes. You're being judged by the thirteen year old.]

[He scowls, although it almost looks more like a pout.] Healthier than other things. [He says it almost under his breath, looking around nervously. The people here scare him.]

You should talk to people. So that you'll get sponsors...

[He gives her a look. The kind that says he doesn't follow what she's talking about.] I don't need sponsors anymore.

[...A heartbeat pause.

Then an O of surprise.]

You won?

[He nods.]

Yeah. My Escort says I'm supposed to be a Mentor now. It's confusing.

Then you have to talk to people. Your tributes are probably depending on you.

I know. But I don't know what I'm doing. I don't know how to help them.

You just have to make them sound good. If the sponsors think your tributes can win, they'll bet on them.

Or if they give a lot of entertainment.

How do I do that?!

You just have to talk to them. Tell them about the tributes. And I think you're supposed to make sure your tributes act well for the camera...

Tell them what about my tributes? And how do I make them act well? [Sorry, Prim. He really is clueless. Coming here is the first time he's been around this many people in years.]

You just tell them your tributes can win. And tell them stories - like... romances. Or vicious ones...

And you can give the tributes gifts. If they do what you want them to.

I guess I can do that... The vicious ones, anyway.

[He nods when she talks about the gifts.] Yeah, they told me about the gifts. Only when they do what I want? How are they supposed to know what that is?

You can put messages in it. Or you could just give them rewards when they do something. So that they'll figure it out.

[He thinks about that for a minute. Then smiles.] I guess I can do that.

That's what happened with Katniss, I think...

Thanks, I guess. [He shifts nervously. She's really different from the others here. A good different. Somehow, he wants her to like him.]
