It took a lot to fill a day, devoid of school or work. Sometimes she followed Katniss or visited with Cinna. The rest of the time, when she didn't have a book to read or a ball to bounce against the wall, she went out to the city.

They had a lot of things out there, making her head whip about. She couldn't buy any of it, without relying on her credit card, but she could stare into the windows and mouth her awe. The books in their display cases, the clothes - so many types of shoes and dresses: she couldn't imagine people going through so many outfits, back home. None of the shoes even looked practical.

She had some thoughts about searching out herbal shops, or pressing people for information on the capitol's medication... Somehow, the cake shops and toy stores always drew just as much attention, though. The sweet smells and bright lights... All the things she never could have imagined back home.

Most recently was the tickle-me trolls. Staring at the familiar faces of the tributes, and remembering what it was she had heard from them. How could they be child friendly?

It's not something Prim will ever understand. Katniss always did her best to make sure Prim had enough to eat. Not that she always succeeded, but Prim has grown up knowing her sister would shoot anyone full of arrows if they tried to steal a bite.

"So you should wait until you don't have a choice," she encouraged. "That way you won't be banned if you have to steal things later."

He has four older brothers, one younger sister, and a father who doesn't really care about that. He's more likely to be stabbed at home for eating the last pizza roll than he would be for stealing a bunch of groceries. Although he does make sure his sister is okay, even if it's only because no one else in the house would bother.

He half smirks at her, "that's sayin I ever have a choice, kid, it don't always work like that."

"Why not?" she asked, confusion painted on her face. She glanced again at the toys, then up toward the ceiling where cameras might reside.

"They're still giving you food, aren't they?"

"Here? Yeah. But for how long til we're killin each other over food? Things always go to shit."

"I don't think they would do that," she argued, shifting her feet a little. There was a bit of firmness in her voice, this time. She felt like she had to convince him.

"It wouldn't make for a good show."

"You sure about that? People fight hard for a bite to eat."

"But it's different if it's not in the arena..." she tugged a little at her braid, trying not to chew up her lip any more. "They can't say it's an honor or anything."
