So some unfortunate and unplanned for things happened. Troll things. Things Cuthbert has no frame of reference for. So now he's looking for advice; good, bad or otherwise. And unfortunately with the choices at hand that was exactly what he would probably get.

When he catches sight of each of the other trolls he knows he immediately moves to corner them.

"A moment, if I could."

"It's not the kind of upset you think it is. Kismessitude is more like a rivalry. Like they're the one person who you know will always be able to challenge you, who you want to do better than not just for yourself but to push them to do better too, because you don't want that rivalry to end. Him being upset and frustrated and unable to deal with you is a good thing, in a pitch relationship. It means that he cares, that he hates you but in the way where he doesn't want to actually hurt you and can remove himself from the situation before he does."

Really, he wished quadrants weren't so rigid. It would be a lot easier for the humans and even for most trolls if they were simpler.

"But I think he'd also understand if you told him no. It might hurt him but it might also make things easier for the both of you, even if it's awkward between you for a while. And he'll have me to care for him emotionally if he needs it. That's what a moirail does. He'll be fine."

"That is a fair bit more eloquent than it was described to me the first time. And not entirely what I had imagined. Though I don't see my teasing as a challenge to make him stronger, I suppose it could be seen that way. I was only doing what was fun for me."

And now he feels even more guilty for that. He's still trying to find the end of his mistakes in the relationship so far. They seem to be endless.

"Fine and well for thee and him, but I have no one so close to me who can ease my battered soul."

That's mostly him being dramatic, but he does feel like he needs someone he can trust.

"You came to me, didn't you? So you have at least one person you're comfortable talking to. And you should know of course that I'm always willing to speak with you, especially about things like this."

He gives Cuthbert a warm smile.

"Until you find a moirail of your own, anyway. Or whatever the human equivalent is."

"I think we'd just call it a 'friend'. And I have precious few here. Less if you count those I can genuinely trust." He does consider Signless among the latter group.

"Thankee, for the help that is. I may have a measure in place to help, but your wisdom is always appreciated."

"It's difficult, when you know so few people in a strange and hostile place." He pats Cuthbert on the shoulder. "I'm flattered that you consider me a friend, though."

"Of course. You and Karkat were the first here to be kind to me, and in a place where it could easily have turned on me and killed me. That sort of kindness deserves a reward, aye?"

He looks sad again, turning away from Signless. "I'm afraid I've rewarded your kindness by turning him away when he wanted me."

"If you didn't want him, it isn't as though you could help it. It's better to be truthful even if it hurts for a little while than to lie and make yourself unhappy permanently."

"Can I tell you the truth? The honest truth?"

He slumps down a little, this isn't something he really wanted to say.

"If I was honest, I knew I was flirting with him, but I had no reason to stop because I enjoyed it. I didn't want to admit to myself that was what I was doing because where I come from flirting with a man openly could cause me a great deal of trouble. He just made it irresistible."
