Looking for Love [OPEN]
Who| R [OPEN]
What| R takes it upon himself to ask for dating advice from whoever he bumps into (sometimes literally). This can be from advice to how to be the most romantic Romeo ever to the downright awful. To make intros easier, we can handwave R introducing himself and assume he’s already corraled them into this if you like.
Where|| Around the Training Center, the Tribute Tower, and the Speakeasy. Possibly the park.
When| | Before the Victor Crowning
Warnings/Notes|| Nothing so far.
R’s on a mission to acquire intel for How to Date; Revised for Zombies.
Oh, and for scrawny little guys like Howard. Although if you asked him, personally R believes Howard’s already got one step in the door just because he’s got a working heart. Don’t tell Howard he thought that.
The point is R’s motivated. It’s almost unicorn rare to know what he wants and how to get it. Motivation doesn’t come easy to zombies, R feeling the strain raking its claws across his brain folds as he takes his first stumbling step into today. His Escort turns to stare while she primps her hair, surprised that he’s going out on his own instead of having to be herded. He even remembers to groan something about “…prac-tice…for…Games”, just like the Helmsman coached him to, and R almost thinks that’s a mistake when his Escort’s face lights up. He made her day. She almost looks like she wants to drop everything, come along as if she knows how to tie nooses any better than he does. Luckily she settles for waving him good luck, so pleased she’d radiate sunshine if she could.
He lurches off before she changes her mind.
R’s mission is a multi-stage attack:
1). Find someone, anyone with a pulse.
2). Grill them on romance.
3). Hoard the advice.
4). …He’s still working on the next step. R’s lucky he got this far, to be totally honest.
For now R roams, a tall swaying zombie with a muzzle and a bad habit bumping his way into friends and strangers and wrangling them into his quest.

For now R roams, a tall swaying zombie with a muzzle and a bad habit bumping his way into friends and strangers and wrangling them into his quest.

Well, as casual a conversation as one can have with a member of the undead.
"Do you want to go sit somewhere and talk?" She paused and looked down at R's feet. "Though, I see you're getting around better than the last time I saw you."

R led Suze down the hall, trying to just pick the closest place because he still had a bad habit of getting lost in the Tribute Tower and trust him - you thought it was bad getting lost? Try getting lost with a zombie slowly working out what was familiar and what wasn't and that was a whole new world of hurt there. Luckily he managed to get Suze to a place with a couch in under an hour, the zombie slumping down so he can prop himself up for a conversation. He felt better asking Suze for help here then someone like Karis. Suze seemed to be, uh, a lot less angry at everything ever.
Also her having a pulse and being a "fleshie" herself helped.
"...How to...love? Show...a girl?" R got right down to business, eyes on Suze.

She took a moment to recover from the surprise and considered what advice she could actually give him. Her own love life was...complicated at best. One potential boyfriend had been driven away thanks to the ghost of his ex. Another had left to deal with his mentally unwell father, and the most recently had tried to kill her on multiple occasions. Not exactly a stellar record. And she wasn't even touching the subject of Jesse.
"Well," she finally said. "It's good to be up front about it. Be honest about how you feel."

R took about as long to get his own words out, forcing them out stiff lips. “Don’t…think that’d…be…creepy? Hon-nest…opinion.”
He wobbled a wave at himself and the whole corpse-thing he had going. Seemed self-explanatory. Suze was a girl and Living and nice and that put her pretty close to Julie’s category in his opinion, maybe closer than anyone else here in the Capitol he knew. Would Suze be creeped out if one of her other Dead came at her and tried to take her on a date after she helped them out? Not even a trick question, it was something R was honestly curious about and he was gearing up to ask her that sometime too.

She wished that she had better news for him than that, but she was coming up short. Suze was no stranger to being attracted to the dead, but the dead she knew weren't...zombies. Ghosts were almost like regular people to mediators, save for some special powers and a slight glow.
"I still think being honest is the way to go. Maybe not right away, but eventually. In the meantime just...be good to whoever it is. Be kind. That goes a long way with most people, not just girls you like."
no subject
"Be...good," R echoed. "Trying...to be better...at it. It's...tough. The...urges."
R wished he could say once and for all he'd eaten his last victim. For awhile he thought he was done, up until the Capitol came in. R wondered what it was like for Suze's other Dead. What she told them. He was probably being nosy but still, he couldn't help being curious. Did all Dead ask the same thing in the end? Is this what Suze told the others and did they nod and think that was all the answer they needed or were they like him, not ready to settle, wanting a connection in the here and now?
Does she feel that way too? The thought came out of nowhere, R staring hard at Suze, a little puzzled frown on his corpse's face.

Suze was usually quick to understand things, but aspects of the zombie lifestyle (unlifestyle?) was not something she was used to considering. So it took her a moment to understand R's meaning.
"Oh! Oh. Um...eating, right?" She glanced at the muzzle again. She had been avoiding it; not sure if it would be rude to keep staring at the thing. Now she pointed to it briefly. "Is that why you're wearing that?"
It seemed a little cruel to make R wear it, but at the same time she was grateful and relieved for it. If he had one, then the other zombie must have one as well. Now that was something she wouldn't feel bad about seeing.

That was his impression, anyway. According to his frazzled Escort, it was the one thing that distinguished him from some District 11 Tribute who scored a measly 4. That and the thing he had with Julie. Maybe she could help sell that as the next, bigger, better Peeta/Katniss (big emphasis on that maybe).
"Any...way. Dates?" R preferred to talk dating. One track mind, he guessed. That and it seemed like it was a better topic to groan about than the chances of him gunning for Suze at the next Cornucopia, if he was starved enough. He flinched back at the idea of sinking his teeth into her arm. "What's...your idea....ideal...date?"
no subject
"I like low-key things, I guess," she said, looking thoughtful. "Like going to the beach, or driving around looking for some new place to explore together. But everyone's different, and the date is almost always better when it's someone you really like, no matter what you do."
no subject
"So...hanging...out," R said, his groan sounding hopeful. "Sounds...not so hard. But - "
For a zombie, R somehow had a bad habit working in "buts" there. He was so distracted by talking with Suze that he was barely even remembering to sway where he sat on the couch, his eyes locked on Suze and going into creepy-mode as he concentrated.
"Will it get...boring? Want to be...keep - " Yeah, that was the word R wanted. "- it...fresh."
In other words, what if Julie got bored hanging out with the same corpse doing the same things? It was something that hit him all of a sudden, R nervous all over again.

Suze was finding it increasingly difficult to give R dating advice and it didn't even have to do with the fact that he was a zombie. Her own lack of experience was leaving her grasping at straws. She didn't think that she was giving him bad advice, but she was sure how accurate it was either. They were all just guesses about how she expected a steady relationship might go.
"A surprise now and then can be good, as long as it isn't anything too crazy."
Is it cool with you if we end here?
"I'll...try...surprises," R said, frowning behind the muzzle. "See if...that keeps...it fresh."
He had no idea how it'd turn out, but it was worth a shot. He liked Julie enough to try. Hopefully with Suze's advice, he'd find a way to make something like this work. At least he felt a little bit better going to the resident Dead expert for advice. At least that was what R would tell himself once he started shuffling away and trying to brainstorm whatever a romantic surprise was supposed to look like.
