Karkat... isn't dead anymore. Which was weird, because he quite vividly remembers dying and he doesn't remember anyone resurrection kissing him (not that he knows if that kind of shit would even work outside the Medium.)

The point was, however, that if he isn't dead then neither is the Signless probably and that meant that Karkat actually has the chance to clear up a few important things with the older troll--especially about that unintentional shoosh-pap, but about their shared mutation too.

Unfortunately, Signless evidently isn't part of the same "district" that Karkat had been assigned to, so in order to find him Karkat is going to have to venture out into the Training Center's common area.

"Never mind," Karkat says, turning away. Talking to her was a dumb idea in the first place.

[pinklady]

"...Do you guys just talk in code or something?" At this, she frowned. "Because I don't understand anything you're saying!"

"I talk like a normal troll!" Karkat says, over his shoulder. "Because I am one! It's humans who are practically always talking like highbloods!"

[pinklady]

"What are you--but I'm talking normally!" Bliiiiink. "And what the heck is a highblood?"

[sleeplessinalternia]

"Someone who's blood color is really high on the hemospectrum," Karkat answers, turning back around. Duh. "Nobility. Royalty. Bluebloods and indigos and seadwellers. Mostly you guys talk like bluebloods."

[pinklady]

"Hemospectrum? Blood color?" At this, Chibi-Usa crossed her arms. "Look, I don't know how...troll...culture works, but when it comes to humanity, you're the one who is talking weird. And we only have one color of blood. If your color is a different color it means you're not getting enough oxygen."

[sleeplessinalternia]

Karkat blinks. "Seriously? You're not just beastshitting me? How the fuck do humans impose social order, then?"

[pinklady]

"No, I'm not." Chibi-Usa shook her head. "...Well, there are still some places that use the idea of lineage to establish legitimacy, but the social order is usually established or backed up by the amount of wealth and resource access you have."

[sleeplessinalternia]

"Well yeah," says Karkat, "but it's the highbloods who have all the shit, so it amounts to the same thing where I come from. What color do you guys all bleed, anyway?" He hazards a guess: "Green?" That's a nice, neutral hue.

[pinklady]

"No." Chibi-Usa shook her head. "We bleed red."

Karkat frowns. "You mean maroon, right?"

A whole race with everyone in the lowest caste. Man, they must be pretty short lived.

[pinklady]

"Nope, its definitely red." Chibi-Usa shook her head. "A slightly darker red, but not maroon."

[sleeplessinalternia]

Karkat just stares at her. Oh god. She was a mutant. He'd killed another mutant.

No. No, she wasn't a mutant, she was a perfectly normal human, he was being stupid, if your entire race is mutants than you aren't actually mutants.

Just. Shit.

He doesn't exactly regret it, but he's starting to feel kind of gross about killing this little pink girl.

[pinklady]

"Are..." Chibi-Usa looked at him, starting to get concerned. He looked...shocked. "Are you ok?"

[sleeplessinalternia]

"Yeah," he says after a moment. "Past Me is a giant asshole, though."

And then he walks away, because he really can't deal with this girl right now.

[pinklady]

"...All right...um, nice to meet you."

She doesn't go after him. Maybe that's how these troll aliens end conversations?
