Unexpected turn of events

Who | Pruna and anyone
What | The kid wakes up from death and... freaks a little because despite the many hints she hadn't quite got the memo that death isn't permanent. She proceeds to have a tantrum
Where | Her room on the twelfth floor but mostly the tribute lounge
When | Once she is released into the capitol
Warnings/Notes | Mentions of death, also she is quite angry and may lash out, but obviously isn't armed. Let me know if that's okay or not though!

The girls first response to waking up in the clean sterile room was to scream. Loudly. She had died, for real, it had hurt. Yet now nothing hurt, her foot was fine, her arm no longer burned, she wasn't even hungry. So she screamed and she struggled and demanded answers until she worked out that she would be kept in this room until she was calm.

So she grasped out and found the emptiness, it was hard because she was so confused but she managed it. Clinging onto it, barring out all the emotions and locking them away from her. Eyes blank she managed to convince them that she was calm.

She wasn't though, they had told her that she had been brought back, so she could fight again. That she would have to go into one of those arenas again. And try and live all over again, they had ignored her demands to be sent back home to her sister.

The moment she was safely in her room she dropped the emptiness. She tried to do it slowly, to let the emotions in one by one but she really wasn't that good at it yet and she slipped, letting the rage and fear swarm back into her, sweeping her away with it.

She screamed again and kicked the wardrobe, pulled the sheets off the bed, punched the mattress, threw her shoes at the wall. Mindless destruction, the room she had found so pretty when she had arrived now being a symbol of her captivity.

She didn't really want to be dead, but she didn't want to be here either, she had hoped that in her next rebirth she would manage not to be kidnapped by another world.

She just wanted to see her sister again. It wasn't fair, she didn't want to be in this stupid place.

She threw things around a bit longer before storming out her room and down the stairs, kicking walls as she went.

She was planning on just storming out of the building, on seeing how far she could get because surely this stupid city had to end somewhere and even if she couldn't get to her own world somewhere had to be better than here.

But as she marched through the lounge she stopped in her tracks. In the day or two before she had been sent to the arena she had seen a lot of strange things, and not understood them all, or taken it all in.

So she stared at the... well it was moving, and she recognised that place... she had just come from there, and she had seen some of those people. She marched over, kicking any pieces of furniture she passed on the way and began to examine it, trying to look behind, how was it seeing the arena and why was it seeing the arena...

[Just running this past you, I'd like to play out her reaction to Ice cream before we fade to black. How's that sound?]

The trip to the library had been largely unhelpful. They had learned about the last regular Hunger Games before the Capitol had started pulling in random tributes. They had watched as a boy and a girl from the district they represented rose to the top and won together, breaking the rules about only one being able to win. It left alot of questions but it was getting late.

At least Pruna got to see the wonders of a modern library.

And now for the part Sandy had been looking forward to. She held open the door to a stylish Ice cream parlor done in pastel colors with animal shaped booths and checkered floors.

"OK So see the stuff up there?" She explained pointing at the wall where a list of foods had been written.

"Those are flavors. You can ask for just one, or mix a couple together. Then right there..." She pointed to another list of things that were probably also foods. "Those are candies and cookies and fruit and stuff that you can have them mix into the Ice cream." She paused to see if she was explaining it properly.

"Yep!" Sandy said with an encouraging smile. "Here, I'll order one and you can have a taste. If you like it then you can order one too." She took the lead, as she had leading the girl through the city.

It felt good to be on higher ground...so to speak, then Pruna. Her understanding of the city and how it ran gave her a little more confidence. Enough she could ignore how much the girl seemed to loath so much.

Sandy waved to get the clerks attention and ordered a chocolate ice cream with peanut butter and marshmallows. Then she ushered Pruna over to where she could watch the clerk prepare the dish. Scooping out large balls of dark brown cream and mashing it against a cold rock. He took a jar of a lighter brown spread and threw a dollop of it onto the cream. Then some small white pellets. When he mashed the entire thing together it became a gooey mess that he then transferred to a large cone and passed to Sandy who paid him casually and turned her back on him to inspect the treat.

With a lick she sighed and smiled "One of the only good things about this place is the food." She said not for the first time that day. Then offered the cone to Pruna to try.

Sandy giggled in delight at Pruna's reaction and gestured to the counter so the girl could make her own selection. "You want the same kind I had? Or do you want to try a different flavor?" She figured she might have to explain what some of the flavors or toppings were but it was all in good fun.

...except there were some gawkers starting to gather. Peering into the shop window and slipping through the door to stare and whisper about the two tributes they had all seen die on TV not too long before.

The clerk set to work making Pruna's and Sandy moved a little closer so they could speak softly without being over heard.

"We can come back as much as you want and try the different flavors." She offered.

"This thing." Sandy caught on immediately and held up her own card. "Do you have yours?" She was starting to get the feeling that Pruna might have been too focused on the upcoming battle and missed a few of the introductions.

But that was fine, all the more Sandy could teach her.

Sandy nodded and the clerk took the card to enter the purchase into his system before handing it back.

"That things pretty important so make sure you don't lose it." Sandy warned before she could stop herself. Hopefully Pruna wouldn't take that warning the wrong way. With a stern glare at the crowd she led the way to the door as if daring any of them to try and stop her.

Back on the street Sandy felt like she could breath again. She took another lick of her ice cream and the question almost made her laugh out loud.

"Oh wow...I forgot we haven't even introduced each other." She slapped a hand to her forehead in wonder.

"I'm Sandy Marko." She stuck out a hand to shake, and then wondered a moment too late if this girl even knew what handshakes were.
justoutrunyou: (WTF?)

[personal profile] justoutrunyou 2013-05-06 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
Sandy's eyes boggled at the strange gesture and when her hand was given back she shuffled her feet.

"Um...OK. Where I come from we shake hands, just to be friendly." She tried to explain.

"What's your name?" She added feeling her stomach twist with the death glare she had earned inadvertently.

"You don't have a name?" This girl was full of surprises, enough that Sandy would have to teach her a hand shake later.

"So...what do your friends call you?" A pause "I'm not your only friend am I?"

"Nah you're not a brat." Sandy nodded licking her ice cream thoughtfully.

"You may not need me as a friend. In fact you probably don't. But I'd still like to help if I can. You know...show you about ice cream and stuff." She explained and gave a wary smile.

"But I can't just call you girl." She added, "Hmm...names names names." She thought out loud. "Even a good nickname would do."

"Sure! In fact I've got a great one if you'll take it."

Standing on the street corner with a few people passing by she stopped and turned to face the younger girl taking on an uncharacteristically solemn tone.

"When I was little and my dad was still with us, he introduced me to stories of a great warrior. He started as a weakling like me, but when evil demons threatened to kill him, and took away everyone and everything he cared about he rose to the challenge and slaughtered hundreds, maybe thousands of monster warriors. He had a blade on one hand that roared like a lion and a mighty boom stick that could blow your head clean off if he pointed at you!"

"So, I think it's fair that since you're a great warrior, I'll call you Ashley. Ash for short. How's that?" She grinned brightly apparently thinking herself clever.

"Awesome!" She held up her hand, and then realized that Ash probably wouldn't know that either.

"OK, next lesson. To celebrate something cool like this, we high five. You take your hand like this. And then we clap them together in the air." She attempted a demonstration once the other girl's hand was up.
