the neighbors must be pleased

Who| Everyone in the Capitol! get in here
What| Gary's belated housewarming and new album party mingle! Post some toplevels, tag around, make up some games, go nuts!
Where| Gary's new apartment, somewhere downtown
When| Slightly backdated to the night of the 29th
Warnings/Notes| lots of booze/underage drinking(?), please add other warnings in headers!

Things have been heating up in the Capitol as of late, between the Crownings and the extended mini-arena and the strange posts on the network. It's all very restless--uncertain, even, to the ears that can catch it--perhaps a little unsettling.

To others, the adrenaline high is addicting, and they refuse to let the party stop. Tonight, Gary caters to them.

Although really he's catering to anyone that's curious to show up, if the flyers are any indication. He leaves them pretty much anywhere he can get away with--in the entry floors of the Training Center, stuck and torn on the outsides of the elevator doors; stapled to any free wooden post on the piers; taped securely to a good portion of street lampposts and benches and trash cans so you'll read it as you're throwing another one away. They are basically inescapable and they've been around for at least half a week now, although there's been a noticeable surge of them since the evening of the 28th.

The party starts early at Gary's downtown luxury apartment where the flyers all point. Furniture has been moved out of the way of the main living area to clear space for a dance floor with multi-colored lights flickering from the high ceiling above. A massive DJ's booth flanks the party by one window while a karaoke stage dominates the other. Guests are encouraged to make requests and try their hand at singing their own tunes; otherwise, most of the music comes from Gary's newest album. It's taken a while to put together, and for good reason--it's a story album, depicting the struggle between a superhero, Flash (as played by Gary), and his arch-nemesis, the Mariner (who, in the music video, bears a suspicious resemblance to a troll-infused Black Tom Cassidy). The album follows both the hero's and villain's exploits, but when it comes time for the final clash, Flash courts the Mariner's promised wife (who is...okay let's not kid ourselves, she's supposed to be Nitou in drag) and they triumph over evil through the power of love. The album ends with a cheery funeral for the Mariner. The music video plays on the living room's flatscreen periodically, in-between cuts from the mini-arena finale and Tribute interviews.

Refreshments are nearby, along the bar lining the dance floor, catered by a hired bartender and a fairgrounds employee that sells Gary's personal brand of chocolate-fudge funnel cakes. Mix-your-own drink stations are set up around all available corners of the apartment with various sizes of glasses and ice kegs full of different types of liquor and syrup. Avoxes with walking refreshments are absent to make navigating the narrower hallways and dance floor easier.

If the main area is a little too crowded, the stairs are open to allow guests to lounge on the balcony over the living room. A hallway branches off the main area and wraps around the kitchen for a more secluded venue, which also opens out to the patio. The soundproofed windows allow for some peace and quiet; the air outside seems perpetually scented with a hint of lavender, in spite of the lack of flowers in the small hanging gardens just underneath. It's a nice, relaxing place, right up until just after midnight, once all of the proper socialites have left and half the balcony is commandeered for an enthusiastic game of beer pong.

The venue's open, the drinks are flowing, and some of the Capitol's most prestigious upper crust have been invited to mingle and are encouraged to sponsor Tributes that catch their eye. But beneath the typical party veneer, in those more isolated areas, the noise covers up covert whispers and subtle gestures and notes carefully passed into someone's pocket. Maybe it would be a good idea to take advantage of the Capitolite guests' tendency to hang around the television and drinks in the living room and do some catching up with other, more private current events.

If it's fumbling Gary wants, it's fumbling Gary gets -- even more fumbling than usual considering Signless has to negotiate his cigarette, which he finally (sensibly) just sticks in his mouth for safekeeping to leave his hands free.

"Maybe that ought to be your next project. A series of lessons on how to become fly as hell." He only has a tenuous grasp on what that means but it sounds about right for what Gary is.

"I meant on your new album, but just a general congratulation works just as well. You've really made something for yourself here."
