[Closed] Sometimes you have to face hard truths

WHO| Tony Stark and Steve Rogers
WHAT| Steve and Tony are talking, but Steve brings up a subject Tony refuses to listen to.
WHEN| (Backdated) Shortly before the binding event
WHERE| The shady place Tony has his computer hidden
WARNINGS| Discussions of possible death.

It had become something of a habit for Tony and Steve to be hidden away in this room, under the guise of a date for Tony to work on the computer he has both affectionately and with irritation named Bucket Of Bolts, B.O.B for short.

Tony would switch between being silent for minutes to muttering to himself for even longer, all interspersed with talking to Steve about anything on his mind. Which with this whole network break in he was part of, a lot of his conversations were leaning in one area.

"So, providing this all goes to plan. I'm thinking a big showy diner somewhere. Not just me and you either. All of us." There's a pause as he takes a second to remember there isn't an 'all of us' with Thor missing and Natasha being listed as dead. Not that he lets is hamper his talking too much. "Even Dave. I'm sure it'd break those sun glasses to eat with the whole team."

He isn't looking up from the computer, because as confident as he is that his end is going to go smooth, any one could be captured or worse after this, so he's trying to sound more positive than both of them probably feel right now.

Steve finds himself tucked away in this room so often he's grown accustomed to the way things flow between them here, the way the silence is often filled with the clicking of keys or when Tony's mumbling pauses in a way that a hum of agreement will help them man accept the conclusion he's already drawn and move on. In some ways, he feels like a replacement for all the gadgets that Tony is used to surrounding himself with, but he can't seem to mind, he finds the environment relaxing for the most part, settled to the side in his own chair as he draws or reads or plans.

It's a get away from the Capitol's eye, that's enough for Steve. Especially with everything that's about to go down, Steve needs to plan and prepare, too much is at stake.

He looks up when Tony speaks to him, now knowing the difference between being talked to and being talked at, knowing this is the former. The mention of the whole team gives Steve a second of pause, feeling the hole that Natasha and Thor make, but knowing that Tony saying team includes Sam and Bucky helps.

"Pretty sure the poor kid's head would shut down for a while, that and he might convince Bucky to smash fruit at the dinner table, he's done it before," Steve says it lightly, trying to stay on the positive side with Tony. Trying not to mention that something terrible could go wrong, will probably go wrong. That planning a dinner for after isn't the smartest move, that it gives them something to miss.

How he's already already stood one person up, that he rather not do it again.

Tony doesn't need to be honest for Steve to see the effect he has by being here with the man. Maybe he doesn't get the extent of it, but he can see how he helps, if he thought differently, he would have suggested a fake break up for their fake dating by now.

"You should have thought about that before you started to offer to teach him to drive, any grief you get for it is your own doing," Steve breathes a sound of amusement. Really, Tony is the better of the two of them to teach Dave to drive, Steve learned on the fly in the war, the Commandos as his teachers. And let's just say, when they were done with him... well, Bucky and Gabe had to fix a lot so he wouldn't get them killed. He likes to assume Tony is a better teacher than they were.

"Yeah, though how about we leave the planning til after?" Steve just feels like it's setting themselves up for bad luck to plan it beforehand.

Steve breathes an amused noise, "You agreed, that's as good as signing yourself up for life with a teenager."

Steve watches Tony play with the pencil, before looking up to steadily meet his eyes as the man talks. There is no doubt that Tony will be safe here, that his end will go smoothly, but that's not a guarantee for the rest of them. So much could go wrong, Steve has thought about it and tactically gone over as much as he can and he keeps seeing how the Capitol will catch on, how things will go south fast. And Steve knows himself well enough to know if he sees anyone getting left behind, he'll go back for them so long as the larger goal has been accomplished.

Finally, Steve looks away, his gaze on nothing, staring off at nothing in particular, even if he sees the own images in his mind's eye. "Just the last time I made plans before finishing a mission, I was late," finally he looks at Tony again, his expression humored in a purely self-deprecating way, "about 70 years late."

He gives a tense smile before looking down at the sketch pad in his lap, even though he's not looking at it at all. "Just feels like bad luck."

Steve grins, his amusement clear at Tony accusing him of cheating with Thor. "What can I say? Thor's a great kisser," he does recall the memory, though it wasn't so much a kiss kiss as it was lips being plastered to each other because of the excitement Tony speaks of. "He can be a sarcastic shit too, if you haven't noticed."

But Steve sobers as Tony gets on point, but his gives a hallow smirk, something amused in a sardonic way, no real humor behind it. "Pretty sure the main difference is being in and held captive by another world ruled by a government that is choking the life out of it's people," then he adds with a touch more humor than before, a light tease in it, "though you're different too, egghead."

Steve gives a brief sigh, "Not saying it'll go bad, just rather not jinx it."

Steve knows enough of the story to know what Tony is referring to, even if Steve isn't sure the man actually wants to talk about it even if he's bringing it up right now. Tony isn't above mentioning things he doesn't want to talk about to prove his own point.

"Well, then you should take more point on this then, especially if you got an idea to get everyone out alive," it's not too late to work in new plans, especially if Tony is so sure his plans would work, then he should do something about it. Saying your plan would have worked doesn't prove anything. But he doesn't speak cruelly, he understands the want for believe something was or wasn't your fault.

"Good that one of us doesn't," Steve used to not believe in jinxes as much, but his mom believed, so did a lot of the guys in the army, eventually he found himself doing it for small things.
