He was taken out of the room after the test - he thinks it was a test but he's not really all that sure. He followed behind the talll, imposing people, keepin' his mouth shut as they directed him into that box thing they'd lead him into before. He didn't like the boc thing, it moved strangely and made his stomach feel all funny, and it did enough of that anyway.

He was given a room though, and as he held the card he couldn't help but eye them up. No one just gave someone a room. There had to be a catch, there was alwayus a catch. What did he have to give them in return for the room? He poked a dirty finger on the clean sheets covering the bed, surprised at the softness he felt there. He was left alone, standing in the middle of the room, looking around as if he'd never seen anything like it before.

"Well, enough o' tthis," he muttered to himself, pocketing the card and making his way out of the room, and out of the building. Time to get to know this new city; maybe he could find a way home to Paris.

"Here is the Capitol. If it has another name, no one's been inclined to share it with me." Enjolras hadn't missed the nickname, exactly, but Gavroche's idiosyncrasies didn't need encouragement either. Honestly, he had the potential to become as bad as Grantaire and that was something Enjolras didn't need in his life. Thus, he concluded it best to ignore it outwardly and hope the boy got bored and moved onto something else. "Have you been here long?"

"It is Spartan, in a sense." It was practical and utilitarian, in title at least. The culture seemed far too hedonistic for either Enjolras' taste, or what he knew to be more classically Laconian. He studied Gavroche in his modern clothes. They looked less ill-fitting and awkward on him than they felt on Enjolras. Maybe there truly was something to the adaptability of youth. "Allow me to welcome you to the Capitol, my friend. I trust that you have heard why we are here."

"'Ponine?" Enjolras repeated quizzically. "You know someone else here, Gavroche?"

It was a relief to know he didn't have to explain the Games to a child, though. For all his supposed coldness, Enjolras didn't know if he'd really be capable of doing so effectively. Most especially not when there were still gaps in his own knowledge regarding them.

"You have a sister?" He shouldn't have been surprised. Larger families weren't uncommon, and although he couldn't specifically recall Gavroche mentioning her, he hadn't ever really stopped to ask. His duties to Patria and the uprising had taken too much of his concentration for such concerns. "You shall have to introduce us. Preferably before the Arena begins."

[She's actually only meters away, hidden in the doorway of a big house in the alleyway behind Gavroche. She knows her little brother and she does NOT want him to get his tongue cut out on his first day. So she watches, peeping out from behind the colonnades.

So Marius' friend was here, too? Perhaps... perhaps that meant that Marius would appear soon, too.]

"Then she shares your talent for being unseen. Hopefully it will serve her well." If anything could get Gavroche through what was to come, it would likely be that. The gamin had a knack for disappearing that, in another life, Enjolras had considered useful to his cause. Now he simply hoped it would be fortuitous for the boy.

"There are worse strategies." It had taken him a few days of exploring and beng bombarded with the stimulation of the Capitol for Enjolras to bother considering what was to befall them as well. In the end, he figured that while he could try to mentally prepare for the situation of having to take a life, it likely wouldn't do him any good. On the barricade, things had been easier, there had been something worth fighting for. Here, he didn't have the same clarity of purpose. Here, death wouldn't be a necessity of the revolution, a martyrdom for the Republic, it would just be superfluous.

He tore himself away from his thoughts, which strayed all too easily into unpleasant territory. With a distant, restrained sort of fondness, he regarded Gavroche. "Have you eaten breakfast? We should partake in the excess of the Capitol while we are able."
