Who| Leonidas Cora and China Sorrows
What| Hanging out, possible
Where| Glacialis
When| Shortly after the Binding plot and Jason’s post
Warnings/Notes| None for now!

Between working with her Tributes and coworkers and meeting Sponsors, China’s social life is more active than it’s ever been. She would have looked upon such a future with trepidation and weariness just a few months ago, but she finds she’s actually enjoying herself. While she’s still far more charmed by the world of the book, the people she’s encountered outside aren’t uninteresting.

And because this is one meeting she’s actually looking forward to, she arrives promptly and with a hint of honesty in her smile.

She slips into the dining area. The cold has her wrapped up more warmly than usual, a fitted coat over her dark suit. “I hope I didn’t keep you waiting, Leo. How are you?”

It's a tense time, given the recent attempts at rebellion and the resentment that may have been stirred up over Jason's network post. Even she's been feeling it and she just hopes that this can be a relaxing time. Or at least interesting.

"Oh? Now you're just being cheeky," Leo replied as he adjusted his coat and drew closer to China's ear, "Because District 2 got tired of losing to the machinations of Chance. We want to take home the Crown by whatever means necessary."

He withdrew back to his seat, "Whoever said winning was obviously not in the Hunger Games. I know exactly what Capitolites think of me, of my Districter status, and I must remind them that I answer only to President Snow and the Cabinet."

It's probably the only reason he's not been imprisoned after telling off Jason.

The change in her tone is quickly adapted and Leo adds with what can only be described as his closest attempt at sincere flattery to the Capitol, "Always with the utmost respect. As a Districter, I understand my role in this great nation and contrary to popular belief"

As open as he was with China, he know that, if given the chance, she would screw him over. That's what Capitolites do, that's what rational, ambitious people would do if they were in a position above them. Now, whether or not HE would do the same is up in the air.

The difference between the politician and the coach was simply breeding, different birthplaces. "What say you to a toast to Panem? There's much to celebrate and the night is young." And yet still a gentleman towards her and any person who gained his respect. "For the prosperity of the games, a victory on the strength of the tributes and whatever you may want to add."

A show of patriotism went a long way in the Capitol.

"Long live the President and his Cabinet."

The drink was celebrated by the hearty sip and the way he let his chest inflate with the pride of being here. "Do you have any plans for after we finish here?" The conspiratorial grin is mirrored by him, as if inviting her to come along and be horrible people together.

"You would be wrong," Leo smiled, "My evening is free to do as I please."

In other words, he wasn't looking for sponsors or giving his tributes hell. "Will you join me in the Park? There's plenty to see and maybe I'd like to see how you waltz in a less crowded place."

The parks in the Capitol were one of many places that have seen District 2's hands, with the sculptures, the architecture. Cora knew them as a child, accompanying his father on projects.

Leo merely grinned at China, as he finished his meal and waited for her to do so as well. "Capitolites tend to believe us Districters are inferior in intelligence...do you share in that line of thinking?"

Smiling and sending out a verbal missile for her bat away or fluster. Though he highly doubts that last one: China was from one of the Capitol Dynasties, they had all the answers.

That was an answer he both expected from China, and the element of surprise...Leo liked that a lot more than he let on. Why? Because he considered most of their surrounding people as boring and not worth his time and effort. To be a friend of his, the person held his attention more than the bare minimum at work.

"Not a politician's answer, but a librarian's. You never cease to surprise me Sorrows." He was on his toes again, literally now that he stood up. He considered this a most successful date.

Oh that's a tricky missile of a question, and Cora has to chuckle at how direct it was. How can he measure the intelligence of people who never lived in Panem up until this moment? How does one ponder what they think, or their reasoning?

"I would say that for all their ignorant ways," Leo began, enjoying the natural coolness of a Capitol Night, "They tend to have good survival instincts. At least the ones in District 2 seem to have it that way."

Bar a few that just focus on their "families".

"If we get another zombie survivor, I might be tempted to petition for a stop. Luke has given me grief...and then the old man," Fate would assure Leo would lose his patience easily with that one. As soon they made their way to the park, the man's mood lifted and the smirk was much more evident, "Ready?"

"Tell me about it," Leo chided to the memories, "Still recovering sponsors from that little stunt. I don't particularly like it when an offworlder tries to unleash a hornet's nest on the people that keep us alive..."

There's a moment when he admires China as she is, with her duplicituous demeanor and her many tattoos, and he whispered, "Skyline's got nothing on this." With that, he starts their silent waltz.

"Here's hoping but for now, I want them to last past the first four weeks...If he can prove me wrong, I will make sure the Peacekeepers do apologize for the attack..." As if they would ever apologize for doing their job, but his steps are in rhythm with hers, enough for Leo compliment China during a spin, "I'm sure...I'm surprised you've got such skill in this, book theory put in practice?"

"What better way to improve the standing of the Peacekeepers to the ingrates that to let them think we're all in this together?" Leo laughed darkly at the thought. "Snow knows what he's doing with our country, unlike whatever place the Tributes come along."

The joke was caught and the coach's demeanor lightened up, "Practice paid off well...and yes, actually. Careers are taught not just in how to kill the competition but always represent their District in the Capitol. Stepping on a Capitolite's foot is a major faux paux, as I've taught my students time and time again."

And every step had to be correct or it was 50 pushups or 15 minutes on the track but China doesn't need to know that.

Ah their old debate still rung in China's head, as Leo appreciated her technique and, in an subconscious way, the avoidance in his lack of victory. Capitolites only saw the spectacle and most were spoonfed their superiority over the rest of Panem, but Sorrows was different. She read, and was someone more informed than the likes of others in her line of work.

"I wouldn't...it still stands as a reference. What good is a training if you have no way to remember? Practice can only get you so far."
