The Crowning of Tony Stark

Who| Everyone.
What| The Crowning of Tony Stark.
Where| The New Capitol Stark Expo!
When| Friday, late afternoon into the evening.
Notes| This event is mandatory for all Tributes to attend. Even if you do not tag in, your character will attend this party.  Peacekeepers will be on high alert, so no funny business.
WARNINGS| Alcoholism / References to Alcoholism.

The Capitol might be known for its extravagance, but Stark Expos have never skimped on a show. Combining the two together could only be a recipe for the most wild indulgences. The center theater takes styling after a arc reactor, with glass ceiling and glowing blue lights set right within the metal and putting a glow to the sky. Lightshows go off on the main stage, the stark logo overhead and a massive screen displaying the Panem flag and Tony Stark's image just behind the dancing Ironettes. A circle plattform going off from the stage, clearly reserved for the guest of honor, features a design Panem's bird in red, gold, and glowing blue.

A globe is featured in the outside gardens, showing off a map of Panem, and the park is filled with artistic statues of destroyed Iron Man amror. But there's no quiet here, not with the fireworks going off all night and the consistent playing of music that is not but sounds an awful lot like that of Daft Punk, Eifel 65, ACDC, and one other song that breaks them up.

Various shows can be found about the gardens, including display models of some of Tony Stark's old weapons and Iron Man suits. Further along guests may find the Avengers display, featuring large portraits of the Avengers and their allies, large red x's going over greyed out portraits of those deemed dead, including Phill Coulson, Natasha Romanoff, and Thor. Along with these portraits can be found the Stark family tree, featuring the Victor Tony Stark and all his relations including apparent son Dave Strider, and Arya Stark, Ancestor of the Stark family, not to mention the great Howard Stark who's accomplishments (and tragic lack of care for Anthony) are lovingly illustrated. One such accomplishment being a "flying car" just a short walk over.

There's plenty for guests to do besides just ogle the brilliant sights however! A bar has been set up with a whole variety of drinking games available from Sink The Battleship and Drink Roulette to an extravagent variation of the classic game, Beer Pong, and an ongoing run of the Games with rules of drinking for each emotional scene, funny incident, or death. Those under the age of eighteen will be served fizzing juice or soda instead and can participate in junior versions of the very same games. All the cups are made from the finest glass with Tony Stark images over them. Avoxes are on scene to clean every spill and break of glass that might come.

A cave has been crafted of artificial and real material, designed to look like the Cave in which Tony Stark became a real hero, but with a twist; it's been made into a fun-for-all maze! Guests can attempt to navigate their way to the labyrinth and reach the core, avoiding those nasty pop-out rebels along the way. Those who make it to the fire-lit center may receive a limited edition "Tony Stark Heart" miniature arc reactor in a beautiful glass case.

An indoor sky diving station is also available, large enough that many guests may enter at once and still find it spacious. Here, guests can don Iron Man themed sky-diving suits and experience the sensation of flight, just as Tony Stark once did. Of course, the party doesn't start until the Victor comes in; he'll be appearing by Capitol-controlled suit to make his entrance at center stage. It is here that his Throne shall be raised up through the stage and his crown gifted to him. Following the official Crowning Ceremony will also come a speech from the Capitol's very own, Cyrus Reagan.

Tributes are dressed in formal wear with robotic accents. Such as a full mask or metal armor. Capitolites can be seen with Tony stark styled hair, bearing tattoos in his image, and even with surgically implanted lights, in honor of the new Victor. Available for purchase are handcrafted Tony Stark dolls, Iron Man action figures, and models of beloved robot-pet "Dum-E" in both small and life-sized. The Iron Man light gloves come completely free for all guests.

The Crowning ends off with a bang, as in the center of the sky, a massive "wormhole" opens up showing a vast darkness full of sinister creatures just on the other side, sure to inspire some screams from fans. Guests near to the Iron Man suit displays are asked by peacekeepers to step back-- far back-- but may be the first to witness the incredible scene of all those suits launching into the sky and exploding around and "in" the wormhole. The wormhole shifts to a message stating the show to have been brought to you by the Hunger Game's skilled Sky-Display Designers before going into advertising for the rest of the night as the party dies down.

"Or your stylist wanted you to so everyone could see their hard work," Clara says, cocking an eyebrow at him. "They do that around here. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow, but in your case..." she trails off, offering him a shrug. "I don't think anyone could fault you for wanting to take that off."

She looks him over, trying to figure out if she had been wrong before and had maybe seen him pop up somewhere in the Arena and comes up empty yet again. "I'm guessing that you're new here?"

"Very new in fact," James answered as he took off the uncomfortable headpiece and wiped the sweat off his face. He wasn't a terribly handsome man but that smile, though weary from his journey, was still welcoming to the woman. "Came in this week. I'm James Sunderland, Miss."

Now that he could see clearly, a pang struck his heart dead-center: this woman looked kind, with soft features that aged with the loss. It wouldn't be fair to compare her to Mary, and for once, he didn't. "Are you,um, are you from here?"
seestheman: (Well this is new)

Clara couldn't help but pity the man. Not because of the uncomfortable headgear or the look that suddenly came over him when he properly looked at her, but because he was so new to this. She still wasn't sure why the Capitol chose to bring people in so soon after the Arenas, only to taunt them with parties and a life of luxury before tossing them in.

"It's nice to meet you, James. I'm Clara," she said, trying to get some sort of read on him to figure out what her Tributes were up against. "No, I'm originally from Detroit," she added, trying to decide how to tell him that she wasn't a Tribute like him. "Has anyone told you why you were brought here?"

James nodded slightly and mournfully, "Yeah...I'm a Tribute, I'm fighting for a District 3 I think..." And yet he's still trying to get his footing in this brave new world. "To the death, but if that's the case, this is...this is weird."

He looked towards her, "Are you a Tribute too? Or a Mentor? I'm from South Ashfield but, uh, I was rescued in a place called Silent Hill. I had an accident...lost my wife." At least he was honest about that.

Clara almost winced at the mention of District 3. It may've been months ago, but the announcement that the Capitol had firebombed the district into oblivion was still a very clear memory for her (not to mention how much her memories of that day were linked to Alex and only made it hurt more). She didn't mention that though, instead giving him a weak little smile. "Some of the best people I've met here have been Tributes for District 3."

She nodded. "I was a Tribute. They brought me here with my..." she stopped, not yet ready to talk about Alex to a complete stranger. "I won a couple Arenas back. I'm technically a Mentor, but I'm not exactly the best equipped to train anyone how to fight." Clara shot him a sympathetic look, even with the knowledge about his wife...well, she still wasn't ready to talk about her recent loss. "I'm very sorry to hear that."

"I guess I thought the people who brought me here, they would bring Mary too. They were adamant I show up and do my job when the time came...like you did before you won, right?" James tried to understand as best he could.

Her sympathies were appreciated with a small smile, "She's at peace now. She's resting...though I miss her...and I wish I'd done things differently."

"Mary's your...?" She let the question hang there, not sure if it would be in good taste to finish that. It hadn't really occurred to her in those first few days when she had been brought here, when she thought Alex had died in their own world, to consider that they had brought him to Panem as well. She could understand the train of thought, especially knowing that bringing couples wasn't completely out of the norm. As tempted as she was to prod at how his wife passed, she didn't.

"They evaluated me and sent me straight to my suite right off the bat," Clara said with a small, sad smile. "I don't think they really expected a stay-at-home mom to really be much in the way of competition."

"Yeah, Mary was my wife...she had an illness, I don't think she would have survived too long," James looked to his drink, only stating half the truth. Yes, Mary was dying of an illness, but that's not how she really went. "She wouldn't have made a good tribute..."

At her evaluation, Sunderland returned the smile, "You fought for your right to live, didn't you? They wanted entertainment, they got it. You don't have to go back in there, right?"
seestheman: (And that's terrible)

[personal profile] seestheman 2015-08-24 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"The waiting's the worst part." As soon as the words came out, she wanted to take them back. True, her waiting game turned out well in the end (or as well as it could have gone, considering the situation), but that didn't mean that she didn't know what it was like to wait to find out if the person you planned to spend your life with was really gone. "I'm glad that you didn't have to see how she'd deal with the Arenas." Which really translated to 'I'm glad you didn't have to watch her die more than once.'

"I probably won't," she said, trying to bring the smile back, "There have been Victors who were forced to fight again, but those were very specific situations." The smile took a slightly sardonic turn along with her voice, "But they probably wouldn't want me to go back in, even in that context. I won because of a fluke."

"A fluke? As in...a freak occurrence? Sounds like your win was more like an act of God than you surviving," James tilted his head slightly, "I mean, no disrespect but from what I see in Victors, you don't look like them." Appearances were deceiving and maybe this woman had something more than just her looks and sweetness. In his mind, a Victor had to kill the competition, she doesn't look like the murderous type.

It might not have been obvious looking at her, but Clara had blood on her hands. Most of it she could rationalize to herself. An honest-to-God accident, protecting someone she cared for, protecting herself and putting someone out of their misery when they were hallucinating and past the point of no return. She could justify almost all of her kills to herself except for Tom. Which didn't mean that she regretted it, because she didn't.

She didn't want to know what that said about her.

"More like act of scientist," she said with a bitter laugh. "I had this..." She knows referring to Carlos as a friend could put her in a dangerous place in the Capitol's eyes, and stops herself, thinking about how to describe him without endangering herself. "...Districtmate who didn't want to win and chose to kill himself over taking what should've been his victory."

It still amazes her that, months later, she's still bitter about it, about being stuck without her eye and hand for good. About being forced into the role of District 10's Mentor without desiring it in the slightest. "Though, maybe we come in all shapes and sizes. Not all of us can be superheroes. That'd take the excitement out of it, I guess."

"I suppose but there's a case to be made for..." when James heard about that man's suicide, his eyes widened while his mind heard the rush of slamming the speed pedal and into Lake Toluca. He was back in the car for the briefest moment, like a daydream that just never really went away.

"Well, I'm the last person who could tell you but..." He didn't see Clara in a blink, he saw Mary, "But you shouldn't hold yourself responsible for that death. If anything, his sacrifice should mean something. My wife used to say do people should do what's best for themselves, maybe this is your chance to do something to help others."
seestheman: (Throw it at me all at once)

[personal profile] seestheman 2015-09-04 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Clara knew that look almost instinctively, knowing it was one that she had made before herself. That look of someone who had something that haunted them in their past and couldn't quite shake it. As much as she wanted to ask, she also knew that talking about these things in a place like this could possibly add more fuel to the Capitol's fire.

"It's less that I hold myself responsible for his death and more that I...I almost resent him for it," her stomach twisted slightly at admitting it. "The Capitol chose not to bring him back after he helped destroy an Arena, but the fact is that he never should have been in that Arena in the first place because he should have been the one to win, not me."

As soon as the words came out, she felt guilty for thinking it. It wasn't Carlos's fault that she had been so wounded in the Arena, and if he had won, he would've had more eyes on him, which would've been bad. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to heap this all on you."
inrestlessdreams: (Theme of Laura)

[personal profile] inrestlessdreams 2015-09-05 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's all right," James assured Clara with a smile, "You're not heaping anything, you sound like you needed this a lot more than you thought."

This was James' first outing into the Capitol's culture, but he knows that there are officers and more reporters here than any other place. This is to honor someone's win and while Clara's wasn't conventional, she was here now. So Sunderland offers his hand, would you like a drink?

"Would you like a drink? In your friend's name and the winner here?"
seestheman: (Hey baby)

[personal profile] seestheman 2015-09-09 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
The laugh that escaped her lips wasn't at all bitter, nope, totally not. It's just one of those little Capitol problems, not being able to mourn your lost loved ones publicly because they were traitors and obviously missing them would only brand her as a traitor as well. "I might," she said, trying not to think about just how fucked up this entire situation was.

There's what felt like a weight that plummets into her stomach at the question. There's something about the way he asks that just makes her think about life with Alex at home before the bombing and date nights (and, more specifically, how there's the possibility that she's never going to have that again and how much she hated to think about that).

Instead of giving into that feeling, she gave him a wan smile and nodded, "A drink would be good. Especially with some company."
inrestlessdreams: http://silent-hill-town.tumblr.com/icons (Prisionic Fairytale)

shall we wrap up here?

[personal profile] inrestlessdreams 2015-09-09 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't know if I'll be any good as company," James shrugged with a smile that matched hers, "But it's the least I could do before the night's over."

With everything weighing her down, it was impossible not to catch the acridness of Clara's laugh and her demeanor. So he tried to play the neutral party and followed through with his offer.

"Especially to a very welcoming victor like you." He did mean that though.
seestheman: (Full of grace)

Sure! Consider this a wrap tag!

"You're better than the company I was keeping before." By which she meant that she was drinking alone prior to this. Not that she meant to say that he was better than nothing.

"Thank you." He was just trying to be nice, and she couldn't help but feel bad for acting the way she had. Her smile softened slightly. "Here's to new beginnings."
