The Crowning of Tony Stark
Who| Everyone.
What| The Crowning of Tony Stark.
Where| The New Capitol Stark Expo!
When| Friday, late afternoon into the evening.
Notes| This event is mandatory for all Tributes to attend. Even if you do not tag in, your character will attend this party. Peacekeepers will be on high alert, so no funny business.
WARNINGS| Alcoholism / References to Alcoholism.
The Capitol might be known for its extravagance, but Stark Expos have never skimped on a show. Combining the two together could only be a recipe for the most wild indulgences. The center theater takes styling after a arc reactor, with glass ceiling and glowing blue lights set right within the metal and putting a glow to the sky. Lightshows go off on the main stage, the stark logo overhead and a massive screen displaying the Panem flag and Tony Stark's image just behind the dancing Ironettes. A circle plattform going off from the stage, clearly reserved for the guest of honor, features a design Panem's bird in red, gold, and glowing blue.
A globe is featured in the outside gardens, showing off a map of Panem, and the park is filled with artistic statues of destroyed Iron Man amror. But there's no quiet here, not with the fireworks going off all night and the consistent playing of music that is not but sounds an awful lot like that of Daft Punk, Eifel 65, ACDC, and one other song that breaks them up.
Various shows can be found about the gardens, including display models of some of Tony Stark's old weapons and Iron Man suits. Further along guests may find the Avengers display, featuring large portraits of the Avengers and their allies, large red x's going over greyed out portraits of those deemed dead, including Phill Coulson, Natasha Romanoff, and Thor. Along with these portraits can be found the Stark family tree, featuring the Victor Tony Stark and all his relations including apparent son Dave Strider, and Arya Stark, Ancestor of the Stark family, not to mention the great Howard Stark who's accomplishments (and tragic lack of care for Anthony) are lovingly illustrated. One such accomplishment being a "flying car" just a short walk over.
There's plenty for guests to do besides just ogle the brilliant sights however! A bar has been set up with a whole variety of drinking games available from Sink The Battleship and Drink Roulette to an extravagent variation of the classic game, Beer Pong, and an ongoing run of the Games with rules of drinking for each emotional scene, funny incident, or death. Those under the age of eighteen will be served fizzing juice or soda instead and can participate in junior versions of the very same games. All the cups are made from the finest glass with Tony Stark images over them. Avoxes are on scene to clean every spill and break of glass that might come.
A cave has been crafted of artificial and real material, designed to look like the Cave in which Tony Stark became a real hero, but with a twist; it's been made into a fun-for-all maze! Guests can attempt to navigate their way to the labyrinth and reach the core, avoiding those nasty pop-out rebels along the way. Those who make it to the fire-lit center may receive a limited edition "Tony Stark Heart" miniature arc reactor in a beautiful glass case.
An indoor sky diving station is also available, large enough that many guests may enter at once and still find it spacious. Here, guests can don Iron Man themed sky-diving suits and experience the sensation of flight, just as Tony Stark once did. Of course, the party doesn't start until the Victor comes in; he'll be appearing by Capitol-controlled suit to make his entrance at center stage. It is here that his Throne shall be raised up through the stage and his crown gifted to him. Following the official Crowning Ceremony will also come a speech from the Capitol's very own, Cyrus Reagan.
Tributes are dressed in formal wear with robotic accents. Such as a full mask or metal armor. Capitolites can be seen with Tony stark styled hair, bearing tattoos in his image, and even with surgically implanted lights, in honor of the new Victor. Available for purchase are handcrafted Tony Stark dolls, Iron Man action figures, and models of beloved robot-pet "Dum-E" in both small and life-sized. The Iron Man light gloves come completely free for all guests.
The Crowning ends off with a bang, as in the center of the sky, a massive "wormhole" opens up showing a vast darkness full of sinister creatures just on the other side, sure to inspire some screams from fans. Guests near to the Iron Man suit displays are asked by peacekeepers to step back-- far back-- but may be the first to witness the incredible scene of all those suits launching into the sky and exploding around and "in" the wormhole. The wormhole shifts to a message stating the show to have been brought to you by the Hunger Game's skilled Sky-Display Designers before going into advertising for the rest of the night as the party dies down.

"It's likely the flared collar that was having the greatest effect. Drones have similar armor around their shoulders."
no subject
"It's just the lines, you don't have to..." Signless gets there first, and there is the fastenings of his jacket. "Come on--" It slips off easily, and not even the high waistband is a mercy when it's fucking leggings clinging to his torso. Karkat half shouts, "I'm not a wiggler, you don't have to get off!"
It takes a half-second.
"--The jacket. Get off the jacket. Take off, take it off--" His face is coloring against his own will and he can't look either of them in the eye. "You know what I meant!"
no subject
There's a moment as he decides whether to say this next thing. Well, no reason not to. "I was going to turn back before I reached the maze's end. Not that they'd try anything worse than embarrassing at a Capitol party-" He shrugs, frowning. Too many arenas has taught him to be suspicious of this kind of setup, and Roland can't shake his unease at the thought of seeing this little Crowning entertainment all the way through. Best just be cautious, maybe.
no subject
"I can't imagine there's anything that sinister waiting for us, but if you'd like to turn back I don't have a preference either way." He came here to escape the party, true, but that was before he had two of the people who might make it more bearable with him.
"I'll keep the jacket with me, though. It isn't too heavy and I wouldn't want to lose it entirely." With how these parties often go he doesn't trust himself to have time to come back and pick it up later, if he even remembers.

Is this just fantasy?
Caught on a word slip
Yet escaping completely

Seriously, though, that's it? Karkat dares to peek up at one then the other, and the bigger question seems to be what to do with the jacket. Here he was prepared for the messy death of his dignity. For the first time in this mess, he finds himself glad for Roland's presence, or at least that the bullet of his snark only grazed him.
"... I want to see what's there," he says slowly, the look on his face wary still. "But if you two want to turn back before then, I don't care."
no subject
"Karkat, you said you didn't know how to leave? And Signless, you said you'd rather stay in here anyway?" He wanders over to the pop-out 'enemy' that hasn't retracted into the wall yet, brushing the metal and organic fingertips of his right hand across Signless' back as he goes, and gives the photograph a thump. "If these are all they've got in here, that should be possible. Karkat ought to lead us. We'll stay in here until he finds a way out. Unless there's anything out there you're particularly trying to avoid." He flicks a hand in the direction of the rest of the party, expression dry. What part of the joy of a Capitol social function could Signless be avoiding? One of life's great mysteries.
no subject
He stops abruptly. Something that has felt off since he first found Roland finally coalesces into a clear realization. That touch literally felt off; Signless is very familiar with what Roland's fingers feel like when they trail over his back and that isn't it. Honestly he feels almost stupid for not realizing what the difference was more quickly.
"Your hand. When did...?"
It has to be something recent. He can't possibly have seen it before now and somehow completely missed it, right?
no subject
"Sounds fine to me," he agrees, and goes to take a position in front, but the Signless interrupts him.
With his devotion to not looking at the problem, he too missed the difference, and it's not until he looks that he sees it. He knows those weren't there the other day.
He looks up at Roland's face. "They gave you new fingers?"
no subject
His right hand rises automatically, but luckily he reconsiders and his left takes up the solemn duty of flicking the tip of Signless' nearest ear. "If I hadn't done anything with it, how long would it have taken either of you to notice?"
Roland's left hand lowers, its job done, and he looks down at his right, then up, then down again, trying to pull his gaze somewhere else but not really able to keep it away. His fingers spread, his hand turns and they curl. The little gears whirr and clank quietly against each other. "They wanted it done before the crowning. A trial run, or something similar. They wanted to smooth over the scars, too. Talked them out of it."
Those scars can still be seen a little, breaking up the smooth, even seam of the place the base mechanism sits. He looks at the red, puffy skin there for a second, then curls his hand into a loose fist. The natural fingers do this quickly and easily, the other two noticeably less so. "I wouldn't try knitting with them, or anything of the like," he says, and moves the fist out of his line of sight at his side. "Maybe I should take the lead, in any case. If there's a cave-in, the person in front ought to be someone who'll notice." Not that he's taking shots at anyone, or anything. Just being practical. Sensible. Mmhmm.
no subject
He imagines not. Roland is a lot of things but 'sappy' is not one of them. He has a remarkable knack for being romantic when he doesn't precisely mean to but that isn't really the same thing.
"They seem to work well enough. Why couldn't you knit with them?"
no subject
He turns his attention to Roland right after. "And excuse me for doing the polite thing and not gawking at your jacked up prongs all the time. Fuck you, by the way: I'm the one who died from a cave-in in the space arena. I know what they're like." His tone's sharp, but not in the actually upset way.
Fully intending to take and keep firm grasp of the leader position, he storms ahead. If they don't follow they'll get left behind.
He calls back without looking, "He shouldn't knit in the first place if it turns out like that woolen horrorterror I saw last time."
no subject
"I cry your pardon, Karkat," Roland says as he catches up, because whether or not Karkat is truly bothered the comment does need an honest apology. "I ought to use my head before I speak." And maybe start searching for records of both Karkat and Signless' past deaths so he doesn't step in it again. Which will be quite the task. Quite frankly, he'd rather knit.
"And I wouldn't," he continues, looking back to check how well Signless is keeping up with the two of them, "because horrible woolen terrors take finesse. Articulation that this metal set in me, well crafted as it is, can't manage. At least, not tonight."
He slows, glances up at Karkat to check whether the boy's getting impatient at the delay or charging right on ahead, then looks back down to Signless, holding the hand in front of them both and spreading its fingers, turning and curling them to demonstrate how much more quickly and easily one set of fingers moves in comparison to the others. "Do you see? And gaze at my eyes all you like; only do it while observing, if you please."
no subject
"I can be perfectly observant when I want to be," he grumbles, but there's no real annoyance in his voice. It was incredibly stupid of him to not notice the glaringly-obvious metal fingers that, at any other time, he would have seen immediately.
"For all you know I've had a glass of wine or two already tonight." Or half a glass. Same difference.
"And I'm not showing off," he adds to Karkat's back in front of them. "If I were trying to show off it would be a lot worse."
no subject
The fingers are interesting, though, and the demonstration has him turning for a better look. They might be slow, but at least they work right, and a part of him suddenly misses Tavros and Equius. Neither was ever close to him, but they were his teammates still.
The moment ends with Signless, and Karkat grimaces over at him. "You're flirting and you have your chest bare already. If you start whatever you call showing off, I'll call for the media. Don't think I won't."
no subject
He faces forward again, his study of Signless over, but he leaves his arm where it is. Can't feel anything under those two fingers but he wants to see just how delicate a touch he can manage with them, whether he can hold Signless now in a way that right hand never has. If he grips too tightly he'll hopefully be able to tell by Signless' reaction, if nothing else.
But, though he's keeping an eye on Signless' face for that, their little corridor splits up ahead and Roland's paying attention to that, too. Must spare a moment to try and catch Karkat's gaze, eye the three branches the corridor takes, and then raise his eyebrows. Go on then, little leader. Lead the way.
