The Crowning of Tony Stark

Who| Everyone.
What| The Crowning of Tony Stark.
Where| The New Capitol Stark Expo!
When| Friday, late afternoon into the evening.
Notes| This event is mandatory for all Tributes to attend. Even if you do not tag in, your character will attend this party.  Peacekeepers will be on high alert, so no funny business.
WARNINGS| Alcoholism / References to Alcoholism.

The Capitol might be known for its extravagance, but Stark Expos have never skimped on a show. Combining the two together could only be a recipe for the most wild indulgences. The center theater takes styling after a arc reactor, with glass ceiling and glowing blue lights set right within the metal and putting a glow to the sky. Lightshows go off on the main stage, the stark logo overhead and a massive screen displaying the Panem flag and Tony Stark's image just behind the dancing Ironettes. A circle plattform going off from the stage, clearly reserved for the guest of honor, features a design Panem's bird in red, gold, and glowing blue.

A globe is featured in the outside gardens, showing off a map of Panem, and the park is filled with artistic statues of destroyed Iron Man amror. But there's no quiet here, not with the fireworks going off all night and the consistent playing of music that is not but sounds an awful lot like that of Daft Punk, Eifel 65, ACDC, and one other song that breaks them up.

Various shows can be found about the gardens, including display models of some of Tony Stark's old weapons and Iron Man suits. Further along guests may find the Avengers display, featuring large portraits of the Avengers and their allies, large red x's going over greyed out portraits of those deemed dead, including Phill Coulson, Natasha Romanoff, and Thor. Along with these portraits can be found the Stark family tree, featuring the Victor Tony Stark and all his relations including apparent son Dave Strider, and Arya Stark, Ancestor of the Stark family, not to mention the great Howard Stark who's accomplishments (and tragic lack of care for Anthony) are lovingly illustrated. One such accomplishment being a "flying car" just a short walk over.

There's plenty for guests to do besides just ogle the brilliant sights however! A bar has been set up with a whole variety of drinking games available from Sink The Battleship and Drink Roulette to an extravagent variation of the classic game, Beer Pong, and an ongoing run of the Games with rules of drinking for each emotional scene, funny incident, or death. Those under the age of eighteen will be served fizzing juice or soda instead and can participate in junior versions of the very same games. All the cups are made from the finest glass with Tony Stark images over them. Avoxes are on scene to clean every spill and break of glass that might come.

A cave has been crafted of artificial and real material, designed to look like the Cave in which Tony Stark became a real hero, but with a twist; it's been made into a fun-for-all maze! Guests can attempt to navigate their way to the labyrinth and reach the core, avoiding those nasty pop-out rebels along the way. Those who make it to the fire-lit center may receive a limited edition "Tony Stark Heart" miniature arc reactor in a beautiful glass case.

An indoor sky diving station is also available, large enough that many guests may enter at once and still find it spacious. Here, guests can don Iron Man themed sky-diving suits and experience the sensation of flight, just as Tony Stark once did. Of course, the party doesn't start until the Victor comes in; he'll be appearing by Capitol-controlled suit to make his entrance at center stage. It is here that his Throne shall be raised up through the stage and his crown gifted to him. Following the official Crowning Ceremony will also come a speech from the Capitol's very own, Cyrus Reagan.

Tributes are dressed in formal wear with robotic accents. Such as a full mask or metal armor. Capitolites can be seen with Tony stark styled hair, bearing tattoos in his image, and even with surgically implanted lights, in honor of the new Victor. Available for purchase are handcrafted Tony Stark dolls, Iron Man action figures, and models of beloved robot-pet "Dum-E" in both small and life-sized. The Iron Man light gloves come completely free for all guests.

The Crowning ends off with a bang, as in the center of the sky, a massive "wormhole" opens up showing a vast darkness full of sinister creatures just on the other side, sure to inspire some screams from fans. Guests near to the Iron Man suit displays are asked by peacekeepers to step back-- far back-- but may be the first to witness the incredible scene of all those suits launching into the sky and exploding around and "in" the wormhole. The wormhole shifts to a message stating the show to have been brought to you by the Hunger Game's skilled Sky-Display Designers before going into advertising for the rest of the night as the party dies down.

The young man recovered as soon as the other asked about the outbreak and sat down. For a moment, Ellis studied his guest, noting that there were still signs of youth under that grim but handsome face. He was probably in the same world as Rick and Daryl...hell, even Luke at this point, where the undead were legitimately undead and not rabid.

"Yeah, big one in Savannah, but me an' my friend N-" OH SHIT, "Nicole." He recognized this one as soon as he remembered his Nick's death tally. This guy was probably friends with Jane and...that was a clusterfuck.

A clusterfuck it was. By the time Nick had met his end, there was little fight left in him. Plus, against another man (whom he had a bad feeling about from the start) with a gun on him? Nick didn't have a chance. It was better than being devoured by an alien, but knowing that he could've stopped the guy from his murder spree when he had first encountered him but didn't was what made it hurt more.

There's always next time...?

Nick blinks as he waits for Ellis to continue. "You and your friend what?"

He can get it if it's something Ellis doesn't want to talk about - it'd explain his unusually perky demeanor. But he dragged him here under that pretense, so he isn't sure what was up.

"We did wha' we had to survive when shit hit th' fan. It wasn't th' best an' I know I'mma carry all tha' on my conscience but I am damn sure we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that. She was a diva, hissyfittin' all th' way to New Orleans..."

No, Nick, that perky demeanor comes with the package that is Ellis. That and calling his Nick a diva was always a plus.

"Wha' I'm tryin' to say is...Well, I've got one hell of a moral quandary here an' you look like you're a serious enough man tha' I can talk about it," it might not have been the entire truth but it was a question that plagued the mechanic. He'd taken that one meeting with Rick and Daryl to heart, and most of the people he hung around with were much more in the darker spectrum of gray than he was used to. He was looking for a new friend and he found this stranger to be that.

"I hear that." Gotta do what they can to survive. Not that he disagrees given his own experiences, but it's the same experiences that also has him hate hearing it because of the darker things that it could entail. People do what they have to do to survive and it isn't always right. Some can take that matter in their hands and live with the decision they've made. It's not that Nick can't, but he tries. He has.

This guy seems all right to Nick so far and talking to folks like Beth and Sam show him that there are still good people out there, whether they're from a world like his or not. Trust is still hard to come by and even if it's handed to him on silver platter he doesn't even trust himself sometimes to make a judgement call.

All these thoughts translate to him raising his brow at Ellis, though not without frowning in sympathy. He doesn't know what it is about him that makes Ellis want to suddenly want to open up to him. Nick knows he doesn't exactly give off the vibe of being approachable. Serious, he says...sure. He'd fumble with the little switch under his cuffs to turn the LEDs off but that would, ironically, make him stand out more.

"Sure," he says as he folds his arms. Nail biting isn't attractive. "What is it?"

Ellis was used to the brooding type, he had his own Nick to thank for it. It was exactly this man that brought along this dilemma plaguing the mechanic. He bit his lower lip and did his best to hold back any sentiments that could betray just who he was about to talk about.

"I'm pretty damn new to these Games, an' frankly, I dunno if I can stomach some of the decisions you gotta make. I talk a big game, but in the end, heh, my old ways keep poppin' back up an' it cost me dearly that I didn't kill anyone. All those Infected an' I never had the gall to, uh, well, kill a human. You've been here longer, does it...get easier"

Much less a child.

The answer comes quick, with a scowl not necessarily directed at Ellis: "No."

He had asked others who have been in the Games when he was new here too and they all gave responses along with their own ways to cope, but in the end, it's the same conclusion. Even without taking his experience in the Games to account, the logic still applies back home. "Don't matter if it's lurkers or people. A threat's a threat. A lot of the times," and he means often, "it's the livin' folk that you gotta be careful of. It ain't that different here. You so much as hesitate - "

He didn't even put up a fight when his eyes laid on the gun, putting two and two together. He could've done something sooner. And in that instant, his heart sank before his body landed on the ground.

" - and you're fucked. Your friends too, if you end up not doin' anything."

The look in his eyes are as steely and hard as what he just said, but there's a twinge of regret seeping through the words, regret that he was unable to continue after what happened with Luke.

The gaze surprised El but after dealing with the likes of the older Nick, it wasn't as...shocking to hear this advice. "Sadly...I know what that feels like, sir. But, what do you do if you fail?" Ellis planted the question, not quite aware of what happened after Luke died in the Arena.

"Wha' if everything you do becomes meaningless?" He was talking more about his Nick's death, after all that pain and anguish. Does one have the right to be mad after all that time and sacrifices...

[personal profile] fuckitall 2015-04-16 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If he wasn't already caught up in the mood of the conversation he'd tell El to quit calling him "sir." He's not used to being treated as if he's a responsible adult. It's always him that's the "kid" or "son" that never knows any better. He's been told this by virtually everyone in his life. As much as he tries to shake it off, a lot of it still sticks to him.

And the one time he apparently is supposed to be the responsible adult, it's just his god damn luck that it's about something that he's not in the frame of mind to even talk about.

"Jesus." He answers with a click of his tongue, "Do I look like somebody that has all the answers?"

His annoyance is but a veil to cover his own pain and guilt that has since married his outlook and overall demeanor. He crosses his arms and keeps his eyes away from Ellis - whose questions are still ones that Nick asks himself over and over again.

"Maybe somebody else might know," he says while still looking away. Somebody like his uncle, perhaps...but his uncle ain't here. "But that somebody ain't me."

"No, not really, but you sure as hell know more than I do," Ellis admitted graciously, looking at the floor for just a moment before meeting Nick's eyes once more.

"I used to think I was on top of everythin', that I could slaughter my way to the top an' keep my friend safe. Fate just had other plans, I guess….So it is," he unconsciously quoted a book he read somewhere but his mind deemed it appropriate, it really was an endless cycle of violence and pain, wasn't it? Ellis knew now that keeping his optimism alive would take a lot of effort and accepting truths about the Games and the Capitol he hadn't been willing to in the beginning.

"There's gonna be something better…an' if there ain't, then I'mma just make it better." And there it was.

Nick frowns at the comment. He has been around a while longer than Ellis but all it has done (still doing, even) to him is just putting him through another prolonged experience in a different form of hell. Nick was more of a skeptic than he was an outright pessimist, but events even before his life here stomped out any sort of optimism he has left for himself. Any strength or motivation he has and continues to hold onto is primarily because of his friends still being here. Even with that in mind, it eats at him knowing that the most he can do is to just suffer along with them. If Ellis hasn’t learned that already, he will eventually. Or maybe not, Nick doesn’t know, and he’s trying to convince himself to not care. Caring hurts enough as it is.

He lets out a long, drawn out sigh. “Well, good luck with that,” he says, arms still crossed as he squeezes them. He could tell even at a glance that Ellis bounces back fast. People like him will be fine or at least be able to pretend that they are – better than Nick can. Good for him.

“We done here?” He doesn’t know what Ellis wants from him, aside from whatever advice he had hoped to receive.

Even with the nasty reaction, Ellis still smiled with his head up high, "Hey, I took ya outta tha' helmet, got a poison?"

They weren't in their respective hells, they were to celebrate Tony Stark's victory and make due with everything that happened in the Arena 13. Ellis knew that those from Rick and Daryl's world were dire but he had to be cautious.

"Least I could do for botherin' ya."

It was just a moment ago that Ellis approached him with such a serious subject. Nick will never understand how people bounce back so quickly. Ellis is either that well-adjusted or just as crazy as the rest of them. He can't tell.

It's gotten to the point right now that he doesn't care. As confusing as Ellis's behavior is to him, it doesn't bother him enough to want to ditch him. It's not as if Nick has anything better to do anyway and if he sticks with Ellis he could at least gauge if this guy can be trusted in the arena. He lets out a small sigh, offering the other nothing but a shrug.

"Whatever, I guess." He's been having so much whiskey here that he's pretty sure he out drank how much his uncle had in his life time.
shiftingurbulls: ([Looking out])

[personal profile] shiftingurbulls 2015-05-07 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ellis is 70% well adjusted, 30% so reckless that he could be called crazy. But he does his best to be the cautious optimist in any situation that called for it, especially in survival. That yes, there is a better world out there but there's a lot of blood and guts to wade through before he got there. That made him a particularly hardy Tribute, until his own bravado got in the way.

"Bourbon it is then! I dunno, I like feelin' like I'm in a fancy hotel, with all these pretty people an' pretend like I'm one o' them," El ranted with a chuckle and thanked the Avox for their trouble. "Much better than home an' hey, skydivin's a hoot. Have ya tried it?"

fuckitall: (Last night she said)

[personal profile] fuckitall 2015-05-09 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nick raises a brow at that. Ellis doesn't strike him as someone who can hold much alcohol, but appearances can be deceiving in more ways he can count. He lets out a thoughtful hum in agreement at how Capitol life works. The apocalypse changes folks and to suddenly be thrown back in like this...

Well, given the reason why they're here as Tributes, it's not as civilized as it seems. It's all about apperances.

He's not adverse to that suggestion to grab drinks but the second one has him looking at Ellis like he just said the dumbest thing ever...if he heard him correctly. The guy's like a mouse running a wheel while on a caffeine trip.

"You sayin' you wanna drink and skydive?"

"Nah, I already did that," Ellis admitted upfront with a shrug, "Not great if ya ask me. But it was nice to not think about how we got here in the first place."

And yes, he had to find the nearest bathroom so he wouldn't make the headlines the next day. He was a hick but not a rude one at that. "Just drinks an' stuff, nothin' like tha' or dancin'. I got two left feet an' my tolerance for Capitolite fawnin' ain't up to snuff."

Being handsome and having died in the way Ellis did, betrayed by a person he'd called a friend, garnered quite a bit of attention.

Nick can't tell if he has to be on his toes to keep up with Ellis in conversation or just zone out here and there. The former is more likely since it's pretty hard for him to let his guard down after everything he went through - especially after dealing with folks like Bill or Troy. But jeez, Ellis seemed to have been really living life before the world went to shit. It's more than what Nick can say about himself, but he's gone through a good amount of grief to get a vibe from Ellis that not all is necessarily swept away and done for good. He can't tell if he's looking too much into it because he's been guilty of that many times before, but keeps silent about it for now.

A drink does sound good right now and Nick will be sure to keep a better grip on the glass this time.

"You and me both," he says as he gestures towards the bar. "Bourbon, right?"

Nick's assessment would be completely on the money as Ellis had an old look about him hidden away all that cheer and excitement, having seen cruelty in the dead eyes of all the Carriers and Immunes, all shot in the head because the military couldn't risk it. But there was always a silver lining and right now, it was being here and enjoying a few drinks with a stranger while Tony Stark was crowned.

"Bourbon an' maybe som' shots while we're at it. Let's git drunk like our ancestors did in times o' war."

Nick could've sworn he heard Pete said something like that one summer barbeque party or another. His expression brightens some, though only subtly, as he follows Ellis with the intention to get shitfaced for the evening.

"So you were sayin' earlier about the 'infected'..."
